Chapter 226: Chapter 226: War of Extinction 3

The Giant Snake thrashed about in the pit, its body slowly recovering from the long fall.

But just as the Giant Snake had recovered enough to climb out of the deep pit, the giant eagle swooped down again. It seized the snake, carried it high into the sky, then released its talons, dropping the serpent back to the earth.

THUD, THUD, THUD. The giant eagle repeatedly snatched the Giant Snake and hurled it to the ground. It continued this gruesome cycle until the snake’s body slammed against a massive granite boulder and snapped in two. Only then did the giant eagle cease its attack, flapping its wings and soaring high into the sky.

It circled endlessly above the chasm the Giant Elephants had opened, occasionally letting out a shrill cry as if celebrating the death of the Giant Snake.

Then, the giant eagle dove toward the passage again, snatched up another Giant Snake, and carried it high into the sky. It had begun its game of dropping Giant Snakes once more, a brutal method of avenging its slain young.

At the same time, the Giant Elephant Race and other Demon Beast Races were locked in a fierce confrontation with the Giant Snake Race.

The Gale Giant Wolves were the most vicious of them all. Led by the Wolf King, the pack of two hundred Gale Giant Wolves began a frenzied assault, relentlessly tearing at a single Giant Snake.

Every year, the wolf pack would give birth to a dozen, sometimes even dozens, of pups.

In years with ample food, the Gale Giant Wolf pack could even produce over a hundred pups.

And yet, their pack size remained at just over two hundred.

A major reason for this was that the Giant Snakes would sneak up on the pups at night, snatching them away as they slept.

Even the Gale Giant Wolves on watch duty would be stunned with venom, killed, and dragged down into the tunnels.

Coupled with conflicts between the various races, the wolf pack’s numbers could never grow.

If a race’s population fails to grow over time, extinction is all that awaits them.

That was why the Gale Giant Wolves despised the Giant Snakes.

’The Giant Snake Race is so shameless, always targeting our young,’ the Gale Giant Wolves thought.

The reason the Giant Snakes targeted the young was simple: their meat was tender and had few bones.

It was precisely because the Giant Snake Race preyed primarily on the young that they were despised by all the other Magical Beast races.

By doing this, the Giant Snake Race was essentially destroying the future of every other Magical Beast Race.

Thus, every single Demon Beast Race on the entire Giant Elephant Plain loathed the Giant Snake Race.

However, the Giant Snake Race always remained underground in their vast network of tunnels.

Any race that tried to invade the Giant Snake’s Nest through these tunnels would often be ambushed and killed by serpents hiding within, suffering heavy losses.

As a result, these Demon Beast Races could only endure the Giant Snakes’ raids.

But now, things were different. The Giant Elephants were leading the charge. If they didn’t join the fight, it would be an insult to the memory of their dead young.

Elsewhere, a band of gorillas was delivering some of the most devastating blows to the Giant Snake Race.

The fur of these gorillas was a crimson red.

Each gorilla stood between six and seven meters tall.

Seven meters was short compared to the sheer size of the Giant Snakes, but each gorilla wielded an axe forged from some strange ore.

At this moment, the gorillas were wildly hacking at the Giant Snakes with their axes.

Each time an axe struck a Giant Snake’s body, the smell of seared flesh filled the air.

Beside the gorillas, the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions from the Source of the Giant Elephant also laid siege to the Giant Snakes.

The population of the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions was one hundred smaller than the pack of Gale Giant Wolves.

In terms of individual Power, only the Giant Elephants could rival the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions.

But the Giant Snake Race never fought head-on. Instead, they dug tunnels and stole cubs in the dead of night.

This tactic was nearly impossible to defend against. Some Giant Snakes even coordinated with each other, setting ambushes just to snatch away their cubs.

This was an enormous headache for the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions.

And beside the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions were the Giant Elephants.

The Giant Elephants continued to widen the passage, forcing more and more Giant Snakes to the surface, aiming to exterminate the entire Giant Snake Race.

But the Giant Snakes were not fools. When they noticed their kin who had climbed up had fallen silent, they halted their ascent. They clung to the rock walls of the passage, refusing to move any higher.

Seeing the Giant Snakes refuse to move, the Giant Elephants all raised their trunks to the sky.

The sky above was already blanketed in dark clouds, a sign of an impending Storm.

But as the Giant Elephants raised their trunks, they began to draw the dark clouds toward them.

Then, the Giant Elephants aimed their trunks at the passage. With a powerful blast, the dark clouds transformed into an unstoppable torrent of water, rushing straight into the Giant Snake’s Nest.

Many of the Giant Snakes were swept up by the sudden flood and washed right back into the Giant Snake’s Nest.

Facing this deluge, the Giant Snakes refused to simply wait for death. They raised their heads from the water, opened their mouths, and spat out torrents of Witchcraft, attempting to freeze the flood.

But the Giant Elephants gave them no quarter. Before the first torrent could freeze, a second wave of water arrived, followed by a third, and a fourth. In moments, the entire underground Giant Snake’s Nest was flooded.

Faced with this, the Giant Snakes had no choice but to flee to the surface through the main passage, or crawl deeper into the pit to find other exits.

This was exactly what the Giant Elephant Race had planned. For every Giant Snake that emerged, three or four Giant Elephants would charge, tearing its body to shreds with their Ivory tusks.

The grievously wounded Giant Snakes let out constant, agonized hisses.

But facing the Giant Elephants’ tactic of flushing them from their home, the Giant Snakes were forced to abandon the Giant Snake’s Nest and fight a direct war against the Giant Elephants and the other Demon Beast Races on the surface.

However, direct confrontation was not the Giant Snake Race’s strength.

Any Giant Snake that emerged from the passage opened by the Giant Elephants met a particularly gruesome end.

Some were hacked into pulp by the gorillas, while others were torn to pieces by the Three-Headed Ferocious Lions.

Still others were devoured by the Gale Giant Wolves, leaving behind nothing but bones.

But the most ruthless of all was the giant eagle.

After smashing three Giant Snakes to death, the giant eagle circled high in the sky, crying out to summon more of its kind to hunt the serpents.

An eagle’s cry can travel a great distance through the air, and since this particular eagle’s Power was comparable to a Level 2 Wizard, its call carried even farther.

Soon, more and more giant eagles began flying in from all corners of the Giant Elephant Plain.

All of these giant eagles had suffered the Giant Snakes’ sneak attacks before. Eagles eat snakes, and snakes eat eagles; the two were natural enemies.

When they met, victory depended on which side was more cunning. But usually, the giant eagles, with their advantage in the sky, would slaughter the Giant Snakes.

Soon, a hunting party of over twenty giant eagles formed to kill the Giant Snakes.

Because the giant eagles could fly, they would dive directly into the passage to hunt the Giant Snakes within.

One after another, Giant Snakes were snatched up by the eagles and smashed into pulp.
