The information about the Ghost Soul School from Flanta, that strange black shadow who claimed to have lived for countless years, plus the news about Kali... This trip to the Nightmare Realm had certainly been fruitful.

After a while, Wei'en finished writing everything down and gently set his quill aside, a thoughtful expression on his face.

Though he had his doubts about the black shadow's identity, he found himself dwelling on one piece of advice in particular: "Pay attention to the changes in your origin when you advance to the Legendary rank."

Come to think of it, every time he had upgraded his Meditation Technique in the past, a notification had appeared on his panel—Origin has mutated.

Then there was that "other him" trapped beneath the giant tree...

Was there some kind of connection between the two?

Or was it all just a coincidence?

Wei'en had no answers to these perplexing questions, and he had no idea how to even begin verifying them.

Perhaps accepting the Research Center's invitation wasn't a bad choice. In the future, he could make the study of his origin his most important project.

Hopefully, this choice wouldn't be a disappointment.

CLICK-CLACK...

The sound snapped Wei'en out of his thoughts. He saw that it was coming from the Nightmare Realm Entry Ticket.

He placed his hand on the card, opened the triangular box, and then fed the forty-five bottles of Stabilizing Potion into the Nightmare Worm's mouth, one after another. Only after watching it burrow deep into the box and disappear did he close the lid.

Having done all that, Wei'en heaved a long sigh. 'I'll stop overthinking it for now. I just need to focus on what's in front of me.'

It wasn't long before another sound came from the triangular box. After taking everything out, he first placed the various materials on his workbench one by one.

Wei'en looked at the three thousand gold pounds with a certain sense of resignation.

If he had possessed this much gold a month ago, his life in this world would have been completely different.

At the very least, he wouldn't have needed to take on risky jobs just to earn money.

'This is probably what they call fate, huh.'

For the first time, Wei'en felt the cruel irony of fate. He had come to this world alone, and he had made every decision and thought through everything by himself.

From a complete novice who understood nothing, he had relied on his panel to get to where he was now, step by step...

All alone...

"Heh!"

But he supposed he couldn't say that anymore.

The figures of Tina, Shawa, Zero, the four Xiaoxis, and Clelia appeared in Wei'en's mind. Without realizing it, he now had people around him he could trust.

The future...

'No matter what the future holds, I at least need enough power to protect myself. If I die... there'll be nothing left.'

Wei'en took a deep breath and activated the black, trophy-shaped communicator to his right.

"State your internal identification number."

"337. I want to contact Dean Josue Sexton of the Feng Enliso Research Center, internal identification number 981."

"One moment..."

The next second, Dean Josue's iconic skull materialized above the trophy. He wasn't wearing his hood and seemed to have been waiting right by the communicator, his massive head leaning in very close.

"Wei'en Mage, is that Wei'en Mage?" Dean Josue's clacking voice rang out, a mix of apprehension and delight. He seemed unable to believe that Wei'en would contact him of his own accord.

"It's me, Dean Josue." Wei'en nodded. "It's good to see you again."

"Good? It's wonderful! I'm so damn happy!" Dean Josue asked impatiently, "Let me guess, it's good news, right? You're calling to tell me good news, aren't you?"

"I suppose..."

"What do you mean, 'I suppose'? It has to be good news!"

Hearing those two words, Dean Josue already had a good idea of his answer. He rejoiced inwardly, leaned back a little to reveal his black robes, cleared his throat, and asked, "Wei'en Mage, what is this good news you wanted to share?"

Wei'en was at a loss for words. 'He's putting on an act now?'

"I've considered it carefully, and I've decided to accept your invitation!"

"Really?"

"Yes."

BANG!

"Wonderful!" Josue waved a Bone Claw and excitedly smashed the desk in front of him. Amid the crashing sound, he continued, "Wei'en Mage, you've made the right decision! On behalf of the Feng Enliso Research Center, I welcome you!"

"However..." Wei'en said calmly, watching the gesticulating Skeleton Mage with great interest. "Aside from the conditions you mentioned last time, I have a few requirements of my own."

"Requirements? Name them, name them! Whatever they are, I'll agree to them," Dean Josue said, momentarily stunned. He then patted his chest.

Wei'en said noncommittally, "First, regarding the research topic, I already have a direction in mind. I hope that when you are selecting personnel later, Dean Josue, you can find people who are a good match for my project."

"No problem! That doesn't conflict with what I mentioned last time at all!"

"Second, I will need to access some research materials. I was wondering what the conditions are for that?"

"Whatever the Feng Enliso Research Center has, it's yours unconditionally. Even if we don't have it, I'll find a way to get it for you."

"Good." A faint smile appeared on Wei'en's face. "And one last thing..."

"Just those three? You can ask for more, you know. Things like various research materials, special equipment, and so on—it's all no problem."

"..." Wei'en shook his head. "Finally, about exchanging knowledge... that should be free of charge, right?"

"Of... uh..."

Dean Josue said awkwardly, "Are you referring to the Magic knowledge? That doesn't belong to the Research Center's archives. It's part of the School's legacy, and what's more, it's provided by Legendary Wizards. Strictly speaking, no one can be exempt..."
