Chapter 558: Chapter 18: A God’s Memory is Reality

Memory.

For mortals, it is a vague process—compressed data that needs to be filled in with imagination and association.

But for an Extraordinary Being, memory is a high-quality recording.

The more powerful the Extraordinary Being, the clearer the recording.

From 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, to even 4K or 8K.

And for those even greater, memory is molecule by molecule, or even atom by atom.

Therefore, for a Divine Spirit, its dreams are what is truly real.

Because the way they remember the world is by recording information atom by atom—or rather, by replicating it atom by atom.

Thus, to ordinary people, their every thought is a real and tangible world.

Every single thought can cause a mutation in reality.

By now, however, Murphy was also beginning to faintly understand what the "Ancient Heart Demon Embryo" was.

He said to Elvin, "In that case, as the dream of a Divine Spirit, this area must have a core to maintain the dream’s stable existence and operation, correct?"

Hearing this, a trace of confusion flashed across Elvin’s face again. ’A being that seems native to the Nightmare World, a powerful individual who has mastered its language, is asking outsiders like us about something as basic as the dream core? It’s practically common knowledge for explorers.’

’This makes no logical sense at all.’

But having said so much already, Elvin suppressed the strange feeling in his heart, endured the pain, and answered with difficulty:

"S-Sir, are you referring to the dream core? Y-You want to take that thing?"

Murphy just watched him quietly, not answering, but the meaning in his eyes was self-evident.

The gaze sent a chill down Elvin’s spine. He quickly added, "The dream core is the heart and brain of this Divine Spirit’s remnant dream. It’s the area where Its residual power is most concentrated, its rules are the most twisted, and it is the most unstable and crazed! Approaching it rashly, or even just trying to perceive it, could lead to being directly assimilated by the divine remnants within!"

He paused, secretly glancing at Murphy’s impassive face, then carefully added, "Of course... with your strength, sir, perhaps... perhaps the level of danger would be different."

Murphy said coolly, "Then tell me, where is this dream’s core?"

Elvin’s body trembled, and he didn’t dare to hesitate for a second.

Fragments of information flashed through his mind: tattered documents and map fragments obtained at great cost, and cryptic words from past explorers who had paid with their lives.

Combining that with their environmental observations since entering, the feedback from their Spatial Positioning Magic, and the bizarre procession below heading toward the furnace...

The most logical answer, and the one most befitting the characteristics of the Divine Spirit "Dumasong," was practically screaming to be said.

He raised a trembling finger, pointing down from the platform toward the colossal furnace, distant yet still emanating a scorching heat:

"Over there, sir. Based on all the clues we have, the most likely location of the core of this ’Dumasong’s Furnace’ dream is the furnace itself. That is where the essence of this ancient God’s power is most concentrated. To find the core fragment supporting this dream, I’m afraid one must enter the furnace."

Murphy nodded.

’Just as I thought.’

Elvin’s answer matched his own speculation perfectly.

Without another word, under the astonished and bewildered gazes of Elvin, Keynes, Lelas, and the other guards, Murphy turned and walked straight to the edge of the platform.

Then, he leaped off.

He landed steadily on the stone-paved road several dozen meters below, right in the middle of the slowly creeping gray torrent, without alerting a single one of the fanatically advancing gray-skinned people.

Then, he began to walk, following the stone path in the same direction as the gray-skinned people.

On the platform, Elvin’s mouth hung half-open. He was frozen in the posture of pointing at the furnace, his eyes wide, as if he still hadn’t processed Murphy’s clean and decisive action.

Captain Keynes clutched his chest, which was wracked with pain, and forced himself to sit up straight. His brow was knitted into a tight knot.

He stared intently at Murphy’s black-clad back receding down the stone road, his expression incredibly complex.

There was the relief of having survived, a deep fear of his power, and an even stronger sense of incomprehensible absurdity.

’Is this a creature from the Nightmare World?’

’Or something else entirely?’

Lelas clutched his ruptured wound, his forehead drenched in a cold sweat, his green eyes filled with pain.

He didn’t dare cast a venomous glare at Murphy, fearing that Murphy might sense his gaze and return, bringing a new crisis upon them. But toward Elvin, he showed no such restraint. Icy rage and contempt, like daggers, pinned Elvin where he stood.

"Traitor!" Lelas discovered he could speak again now that Murphy was gone. He realized it hadn’t just been his injuries; Murphy’s power had been controlling him before.

"You life-clinging coward! You’d say anything to save your own skin! If that monster hadn’t been uninterested in the world coordinates, our world would have been exposed!"

Elvin flinched under Lelas’s murderous gaze, the blood draining from his face.

He abruptly pulled his hand back and subconsciously tried to defend himself:

"I... I didn’t! I was just... He was going to kill us! I just wanted to live! Besides, even if the world coordinates were exposed, it doesn’t guarantee an invasion, and it’s not like an invasion can’t be repelled... And... and he probably already knew anyway! I..."
