Chapter 570: Chapter 24: Divine Manifestation, Heavenly Tribulation, Karma

Once they have completely undergone Dao Transformation and become unobservable matter,

the physical bodies of Extraordinary Beings cannot be observed by ordinary people.

They are phantoms, ghosts, traveling through another dimension, separated from the mortal world by an invisible yet insurmountable curtain.

The gazes of mortals pass right through them as if through air; their fingers sweep through them as if through light and shadow.

But where Extraordinary Beings differ from pure phantoms and ghosts is that their bodies can choose to manifest themselves.

They can transform from a state of unobservable matter into an observable one that can be seen, touched, and can interact with the mortal world.

And because of the existence of their cognitive anchors, they choose to live in an observable form most of the time.

Just like Murphy.

Just like Cheris.

Just like all the Immortals in this world who advance through the Source Sea but have not yet become lost.

They walk the streets of mortals, breathe mortal air, speak at a mortal pace, and eat and rest according to a mortal rhythm.

Not because they need to, but because it is their way of anchoring themselves.

If, one day, they cease to appear in an observable form,

no longer able to manifest in the mortal world,

then that day is when they "die."

This is what it means to be lost.

So, why do these Extraordinary Beings "die"?

If you imagine them as world-weary souls who have lived too long, grown tired of everything, and simply choose to depart, then you are thinking of Extraordinary Beings in far too simple terms.

Admittedly, such rare exceptions do exist.

The long passage of time is enough to extinguish any passion, and endless repetition is enough to cool any fervor.

There are always some souls who, over a voyage of thousands or tens of thousands of years, quietly loosen their anchor chains and allow themselves to become lost in the depths of the Source Sea.

But those are merely exceptions.

For the most part, Extraordinary Beings possess an indomitable will, one beyond mortal imagination.

This is to be expected.

To be able to anchor their sense of self, maintain their individuality at the moment of complete Dao Transformation, and successfully achieve the state of an Immortal, their will must have already been beyond mortal imagination.

Those who were not resolute enough, not strong enough, would have long since collapsed, dissipated, and returned to nothingness during the process of Dao Transformation.

Those who survived are all paragons of strength who have tempered their "self" into steel and forged it into bedrock.

However, this naturally brings with it an obvious side effect.

Mental rigidity.

Ideological inflexibility.

For example: good is good, evil is evil, and neutral is neutral.

Their minds struggle to mature, and their emotional intelligence ceases to grow. They are nothing like the sagacious Wise Ones one might imagine—those who have lived for thousands or tens of thousands of years, developed a detached view of the world, and become profoundly cunning.

Take Cheris, for example.

A being who has lived for an unknown length of time, yet acts like a small child.

She loves wearing crop tops and hot pants, walking barefoot on lava. In the sweetest voice, she calls herself "Master," and with the most juvenile air, she calls Murphy "my little toy."

This isn’t her pretending to be young.

This is her anchor.

It is the anchor she chose for herself over those long, countless years.

It was chosen at the moment of her complete Dao Transformation, the moment she definitively defined the "self" that is Cheris Douglas.

She sealed herself at this origin point.

Interacting with the world at that age, with that personality, and in that manner.

For thousands, even tens of thousands of years, she has never changed.

And one way to make such an unchanging being "die" is to destroy this anchor, to destroy this immortal will.

An Extraordinary Being’s will might be to protect their nation.

In that case, they have defined themselves through this guardianship and anchored their self in this promise.

For hundreds or thousands of years, their existence is bound to the rise and fall of this nation.

However, if one day that nation is destroyed...

The walls collapse, the Crown falls, and the last citizen breathes their final breath upon the ruins.

The anchor chain snaps.

The will becomes empty.

That Extraordinary Being will begin to self-destruct.

The form this takes varies from person to person.

Some will undergo a drastic change in personality.

A former Guardian becomes a destroyer, a once-benevolent elder turns into an indifferent bystander, and a being whose mission was to save others henceforth turns a blind eye to all suffering in the world.

Others will fall into a never-ending search.

Searching for a new nation, a new promise, a new replacement sufficient to anchor the great ship that has lost its moorings.

And others will simply die.

Their existence gradually fades over long years until finally, at a moment no one notices, they vanish completely from the observable world.

Like a ship sailing into the fog.

When the fog lifts, nothing is left on the surface of the sea.

This is what Cultivators call a "tribulation."

After achieving the Golden Core state, if one wishes to live for a long time, they will inevitably face all sorts of tribulations.

Only by overcoming these tribulations can one continue to live on.

But the ones described above are mostly Human Tribulations.

They arise because of others and must be faced by the self.

But aside from these Human Tribulations, all Extraordinary Beings who have reached the Golden Core state or higher must also face a common Heavenly Tribulation from which no one is exempt.

In other words, another way to die.

It also has another name.

The Big Rip.

The world of unobservable matter is composed of Dark Energy and Dark Matter.

Dark Energy is uniformly distributed throughout the void, and with a constant density, it continuously accelerates the expansion of the universe.

It pulls galaxies apart from one another and pushes stars ever further away, isolating them.

If Dark Energy remains dominant, then one day, even atoms will be torn apart by it.

That is the end of the universe—the Big Rip.

And the unobservable matter belonging to Dark Energy that constitutes the consciousness of an Extraordinary Being also follows this same cosmic Law.
