Wizard: My Skills Can Infinitely Break Through
Chapter 417 - 323: First Heir 3Aidele nodded, her expression calm.
She had expected this. News from the Silver Sail City State would have certainly preceded her return.
The Elders were waiting to hear how she, the "Quasi-Inheritor," would report the results of her trip.
In the assembly hall, nine Elders sat in a row upon the high dais.
When Aidele walked through the door, all eyes fell upon her.
Without breaking stride, she walked straight to the center of the hall and gave a slight bow toward the dais.
"Aidele has not failed her mission."
Elder Darcy raised a hand. "Sit and speak."
Aidele took a seat and recounted the events of her trip to the Silver Sail City State.
She described how she had presented the evidence, made her demands, how Clan Leader Anton had reacted, and the final agreement they reached.
She didn’t embellish or add any flair, simply stating the facts. But this straightforwardness only served to highlight her confidence.
"Halved for twenty years, and Tier Three Resources..." After hearing her report, a rare smile touched Elder Darcy’s lips.
"Aidele, you’ve done very well."
Elder Soron nodded in agreement. "This compensation is even more generous than we anticipated."
Elder Darcy nodded in accord. "That Collins boy was running wild, relying on the fact that he’s Morning Star’s direct grandson. This will finally teach him a lesson."
The other Elders also spoke up one after another, their voices an unending chorus of praise.
Aidele thanked them one by one, her expression remaining serene. Once everyone had more or less said their piece, she rose to her feet.
"If there is nothing else, Elders, Aidele will take her leave."
"You may go." Elder Darcy waved his hand, his eyes full of admiration.
Aidele turned and left, her footsteps echoing in the assembly hall.
The moment she walked out the main doors, she silently breathed a sigh of relief. ’My position as the primary heir is finally set in stone.’
「That night, in Edwin’s study.」
The candlelight flickered, illuminating the person across from her... Edwin.
"Second Brother, please, sit."
Edwin gave her a deep look before taking the guest’s seat.
They sat opposite each other, silent for a few seconds.
The faint sound of servants’ footsteps could be heard from outside the window, but the study was exceptionally quiet, with only the crackling of the candlewick.
Aidele spoke first. "Second Brother, during the audit, you had Delia pass a message to me. I haven’t forgotten that favor."
Edwin lifted his teacup, took a sip, and said nothing.
Aidele didn’t beat around the bush. "Second Brother, withdraw from the competition."
Edwin set down his teacup and looked at her. "Seventh Sister, is this... you telling me to concede?"
"Not conceding." Aidele shook her head. "It’s about leaving yourself a better path."
She took a scroll from her robes and pushed it in front of Edwin.
Edwin unrolled the scroll. As his eyes swept over it, his pupils contracted slightly.
It was an agreement.
It stated that he would formally withdraw from the competition for Clan Leader, and in exchange, he would receive lifetime management rights to a trade route in the Eastern Territory.
A trade route. Not for three years, not for ten, but for life.
"Seventh Sister, what a grand gesture." Edwin was silent for a long time before he finally spoke.
Aidele looked at him. "Second Brother, when you did me that favor, weren’t you just trying to leave yourself a way out?"
Her tone was calm. "Now that way out is here. Are you going to take it?"
Edwin stared at the agreement, his fingers tapping lightly on the table.
After a long moment, he suddenly smiled.
There was no mockery in his smile, no resentment, only a sense of... relief.
"Xiaoqi, did you know?" He leaned back in his chair and gazed out the window. "Ever since we were little, I’ve known your Talent was greater than mine."
Aidele raised an eyebrow but didn’t speak.
"After Edmund fell, I knew I didn’t stand a chance," Edwin said with a bitter smile.
He pointed at the agreement on the table. "Doing you that favor... that was my escape route."
Aidele was silent for a few seconds, then asked, "Second Brother, don’t you want to be the Clan Leader?"
"Desperately," Edwin admitted frankly. "But even if I wanted to, would you let me have it?"
He stood up, walked to the window, and turned his back to Aidele.
"You dealt with the mole, visited Hawke Wood, and secured the compensation. After all that, your momentum is unstoppable."
Aidele stood and walked to his side, joining him in looking out the window.
Moonlight spilled into the courtyard, coating the ornamental trees in a silver sheen.
"I’m actually a little impressed. You can still see the situation clearly and have secured a good position for yourself."
Edwin was silent for a moment, then chuckled. "Xiaoqi, are you praising me or mocking me?"
"Praising you," Aidele said seriously.
They looked at each other and suddenly, both of them smiled.
Edwin picked up the agreement, read it over once more from beginning to end, then took out a pen and signed his name at the bottom.
"From this day on, you are the sole heir of the Justice Clan."
He pushed the agreement back to Aidele. "The few who are left won’t be able to make any waves."
Aidele took the agreement and carefully put it away.
"Second Brother, the clan will need to rely on you more in the future."
"Lifetime management of a trade route," Edwin said with a smile.
"After getting a deal this good, it would be unreasonable not to help you out."
He paused suddenly and glanced back at Aidele. "Seventh Sister, there’s something I’ve always wanted to say."
"What is it?"
"Even without Honored Guest Elder Marcus, you probably still would have won, right?" Edwin said earnestly.
Aidele’s heart skipped a beat. She stood up and went to the window, remaining silent for a long time.
Then she said softly, "Second Brother, thank you."
She thought of that gray-robed figure, and her gaze grew distant.
’Ian, thank you. Meeting you... was the greatest fortune of my life.’
Just then, her Secret Magic Mark suddenly vibrated.
The moment Aidele made contact with the Secret Magic Mark, her eyes lit up.
’Ian’s back. Perfect... I have something to discuss with him, too.’
"Second Brother, I’ll be heading back now."
With that, Aidele hurried away, heading straight for Bauhinia Lane.
