A few days later.
Duke received a message from Vera, containing only one line: "The thirty-fifth recruitment, we’ve all signed up. Are you coming?"
This time, he didn’t hesitate much and replied with a single word through the Six-Ring Badge: "Coming."
Now that the intelligence was sufficient and there was a basic understanding of the situation in the Four Spirits Elemental Plane, it was time to set off.
Vera had gathered Leon, Edmond, and Morris on her side, making a total of five with Duke.
They quickly registered as a team at the Six-Ring Tower, with Vera as the leader.
Completing the registration was just the first step; over the next three days, they were required to submit seventeen different materials—identity verification, magic power imprint rubbings, soul wave sampling, bloodline tracing proof, emergency contact registration, will archive... each document had to go through at least two different department reviews. Duke had never seen such cumbersome procedures.
After registration, they gathered on the seventy-fifth floor of the Six-Ring Tower, where there was a teleportation array leading to the Four Spirits Elemental Plane.
The seventy-fifth floor of the Six-Ring Tower was not a public area; there wasn’t a direct elevator, so they had to ascend each level via a spiral staircase for internal personnel only, with guards checking identity badges at every level.
Vera maintained her cool and composed demeanor, her white magic robe standing out among the crowd. Leon had a new set of armor, with silver-white plates etched with intricate rune patterns, and his longsword had changed as well.
Edmond wore a deep blue magic robe, with the White Cliff Academy’s insignia embroidered on his chest, looking much steadier than before.
Morris was there too, in a dusty robe, pale face, hollow eyes, standing on the edge of the crowd, looking at no one.
Once everyone had gathered, Vera turned without saying a word, leading the way.
The staff of the Wizard Council led them through the complicated paths on the seventy-fifth floor for quite a while before arriving at a metal door.
The door had no handle, only a fist-sized recess with complex rune patterns engraved at the bottom.
Vera placed her badge into the recess, and the runes lit up, a pale blue light emanating from the recess, scanning her body and those behind her.
A few breaths later, the light dimmed, and the metal door slid open silently.
Beyond the door was a room, not very large, approximately three to four hundred square meters, with a floor of gray-white stone slabs and no excessive decorations.
In the center of the room, a massive teleportation array operated silently.
It wasn’t an ordinary teleportation array; the patterns of the magic array were more complex than any teleportation array Duke had seen, radiating from the core like countless silver rivers winding across the earth.
The edge of the array was embedded with a circle of fist-sized pale blue crystal stones, which rotated slowly, releasing a fine pulse of energy with each turn, enveloping the teleportation array in a translucent light film.
Around the teleportation array, eight stone pillars were arranged in a circular pattern, each as thick as two people could embrace, and the bodies of the pillars were densely engraved with runes that extended from the base to the top. The color of the runes was not the usual silver-white or pale blue, but a deep dark gold, flowing slowly over the gray-white surface of the pillars.
The dome also had rune engravings, not an ordinary dome but a large spatial array map, covering the entire room.
It was a multi-layered defense, with the outer layer being identity verification to prevent unauthorized entry.
The middle layer was spatial anchoring to prevent coordinate deviation during teleportation, and the inner layer was coordinate obfuscation to prevent enemies from back-tracing to the Wizard Plane’s coordinates through the teleportation array.
The council staff turned to glance at Duke and the others, took out a piece of parchment, and after triple-checking their information, spoke:
"You are integrated into Army Group 235, Twenty-Third Battle Group, Legion Commander Ares, a Level 4 Knight. The legion is currently clearing the southeast corner of the Ashfire Continent in the Four Spirits Elemental Plane. Your mission is frontline support, with specific assignments determined by the legion’s staff department."
He paused and continued, "That’s the official business. Now, a personal word from me: Ares is a Duke of the Seville Empire, from the East Coast. You’re coming from the West Coast, so he might not have much fondness for you, but he won’t intentionally make things difficult. Do your job well and don’t cause him trouble."
"After all, being with him is much better than being under those on the Golden Continent, isn’t it."
The staff then put away the parchment, took out a pale blue crystal stone, and placed it on the control panel of the teleportation array.
The crystal stone emitted a soft light, resonating with the array’s patterns, and the dark golden runes began to flow faster, emerging from the pillars and converging into a complex spatial array map on the dome.
"Go on in," the staff said, "and good luck."
Everyone then stepped into the teleportation array, Duke included, and a light film rose around him.
Inside the light film was an endless blue void, with countless light points rushing past him, stretching into long lines, and his consciousness became both fuzzy and clear at that moment.
The multi-layer defense of the teleportation array was operating, and he could feel the power of spatial anchoring fixing his body within the teleportation channel. The coordinate confusion witch array scrambled the channel’s traces into chaos, misleading any enemies attempting to trace coordinates from the other side to the wrong direction.
The light of the teleportation array dispersed, and Duke opened his eyes.
He stood in an underground hall, with a high dome of over ten meters, and dense runes were engraved on the gray-white stone walls, spreading from the walls to the ceiling, from the ceiling to the floor, enveloping the entire hall within a gigantic magic array.
