The Wizards of the 235th Legion swarmed into the plaza in groups of three or five, some heading straight for the buildings yet to be opened, some searching the streets, and some standing on high ground overlooking the city’s terrain, using their Spiritual Power to scan the internal structures of each building.

This was a feast for the division of spoils; according to the rules of the Wizard Plane, individual gains belong to the individual, no matter how precious, no one can break this rule.

The resources here were so abundant that they could not be moved in several lifetimes, and everyone had the chance to get a piece of the pie from this feast.

Duke began traversing the city, not plundering everywhere, but searching for high-value items that might have been overlooked.

His Spiritual Power was like countless invisible tentacles, extending into the internals of each building, scanning the materials inside.

He found quite a few Level 2 and Level 1 Elemental Crystals.

These were left behind in a hurry by the Flame Spirits during their retreat, scattered in the corners of warehouses, storage rooms of military camps, and even in supply boxes on both sides of the street.

Duke did not overlook them; although their value was not as high as Level 3 ones, their accumulation over time added up.

He found a few more Level 3 Elemental Crystals.

However, they were not in crates but scattered in the depths of various warehouses and in the private vaults of some Flame Spirits.

The concealment of those vaults was extremely high, some hidden in underground secret rooms, some protected by rune seals, and some even required specific tokens to open.

The quality of those Level 3 Elemental Crystals was similar to the ten he had obtained before, enough to push him another step forward in his Elemental Holy Body cultivation.

He did not let his guard down. Although the retreat of the Flame Spirits was hasty, it wasn’t without preparation.

This city, built on the edge of an active volcano, had a magma network running in all directions underground; just triggering a few key nodes could trigger a massive magma eruption.

The Flame Spirits likely left behind many traps before their retreat, requiring a bit of caution.

For Wizards with strong Spiritual Power, these were just minor inconveniences that could be discovered in advance with a bit of caution.

In the city, as a Wizard’s step entered a narrow alley, the ground dozens of meters ahead suddenly cracked.

It didn’t crack naturally; a rune Magic Array was triggered, and dark red light surged from the ground, exploding into a massive Fireball in the center of the alley.

The shockwave sent surrounding debris and dust flying, and dense cracks appeared on the walls on both sides of the alley.

Immediately, magma spewed from the cracks like a dark red snake, meandering over the ground.

No Wizards were injured, just a few slave creatures transporting supplies in the alley had their limbs blown apart and were charred to a crisp.

Similar situations continued to unfold all over the city.

The Wizards were well-experienced in dealing with traps; such occurrences were common in Plane wars.

Ordinary traps were trivial; even the troublesome ones could be dealt with by sacrificing some slave creatures.

After all, the price of slave creatures was insignificant compared to the value of the treasure vaults behind the traps.

When night fell, Duke stood on the top tower of the city, overlooking this city that had been mostly looted.

There were still Wizards shuttling around the plaza, with flickers of firelight dancing in the darkness.

He looked towards the silhouette of the Red Ridge Mountains in the distance; beyond the mountains lay the core settlement area of the Flame Spirits, the Black Stone Plain.

Duke roughly calculated that the most valuable haul today was that batch of flame-marked gold, followed by a dozen or so Level 3 Elemental Crystals.

However, none of these items would be sold; they were all resources he needed.

This place was actually just a remote area of the Ashfire Continent, merely an insignificant corner of the continent.

...

Half a month later.

The area east of the Red Ridge Mountains was finally completely controlled by the 235th Legion.

This area no longer had organized Flame Spirit armies, no organized resistance, nor any enemy forces capable of threatening the legion’s logistical supply lines.

There were still sporadic deserters and stragglers, but all they could do was hide in the shadows and ambush lone slave creatures, unable to change the course of the battle.

Ares convened a Legion Commanders’ meeting at the command post, with the next phase of the mission being to cross the Red Ridge Mountains and join forces with other legions to attack the Black Stone Plain.

The Black Stone Plain was an area in the southeast corner of the Ashfire Continent, neither too big nor too small.

The large furnace clusters of the Flame Spirits were scattered throughout this plain, each with complete defensive works, sufficient logistical reserves, and powerful Guard units.

The high-ranking commanders of the Flame Spirits were stationed in the largest furnace cluster in the center of the plain, overseeing the defensive operations in the entire southeastern corner of the Ashfire Continent.

The area under the responsibility of the 235th Legion was in the southeast corner of the Black Stone Plain, adjacent to the battle zones of the 227th Legion and the 241st Legion, forming a three-sided encirclement, compressing the Flame Spirits’ forces into the center of the plain.

Next, the 235th Legion was to cross the Red Ridge Mountains and proceed to the Black Stone Plain.

The Red Ridge Mountains were vast and boundless, spanning across the southeast corner of the Ashfire Continent. From a bird’s-eye view, it was as if the southeast corner had been severed, and it was huge in area.

In the early morning of the next day, the sky was still gray, the outline of the Red Ridge Mountains vaguely visible in the morning mist.

Duke and his companions passed through the throngs of slave creatures and set off onto the mountain road crossing the Red Ridge Mountains.

The road was rugged, the ground littered with stones, and steep cliffs flanked either side.

Duke led at the front, his Spiritual Power spreading outwards, scanning for potential traps and ambushes.
