Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree
Chapter 931 - 808: The So-Called RulesDuring Duke’s frantic escape, he could vaguely sense that the Level 4 presence was moving away.
It wasn’t coming towards him, but was in pursuit in another direction.
Deep in the magma, there was another demigod-level mage, the one called Mateo.
Clearly, Jin Mo chose to chase the bigger prey.
Duke was silent for a moment, having no time to mourn for Mateo, nor did he stop his steps.
...
Mateo sped through the magma, a pale blue shield drawing a faint trajectory in the dark red lava.
The demigod-level mage’s spiritual power was strong enough that even in this energy storm-ravaged magma depths, he could maintain a stable perception range.
And within the perception range, the presence behind him was closing in.
Fast, too fast.
He had lived for over six hundred years and wasn’t among the top tier of demigod-level mages in the Wizard Council, but he had seen much of the world.
He had participated in countless Plane conquest wars and encountered Level 4 Life forms from different Planes.
Experience told him that engaging with a native Level 4 Life form in an environment with an elemental concentration ten times that of the Wizard Plane was nearly impossible to win.
So he chose to run.
But the opponent’s speed far exceeded his estimation.
The presence of four-attribute fusion was like a relentless shadow, always biting at his perception edge, and getting closer.
The distance had been reduced to less than two kilometers, and it was continuously decreasing.
Mateo gritted his teeth, a hint of resolve flashed across his aged face.
He reached into the void with his right hand, taking out a silver metal sphere the size of a fist from his Space Ring.
This was one of his last-ditch survival methods, a Void Rift Grenade, a one-time Level 4 Alchemy Creation which, when detonated, could create brief spatial disruption within range, enough to interrupt any form of pursuit.
The cost was enough to bankrupt an ordinary Level 3 Mage, but now was the time for survival, not accounting.
He threw the silver metal sphere back while activating the detonation rune with spiritual power.
The metal sphere rolled a few times in the magma, then exploded.
A circle of visible spatial ripples spread from the explosion center, pushing or directly erasing the magma in its path.
The dark red lava, upon contacting the spatial ripples, vanished like lines erased by a rubber, leaving a spherical vacuum area dozens of meters in diameter.
Jin Mo narrowed his heterogeneous pupils slightly, spatial disruption—intruders indeed had some good things.
This attack also posed a threat to him; if encountered directly, even he might be injured.
But that’s all; his body abruptly changed direction in the magma, circumventing the spatial disruption area at an almost impossible angle, with speed hardly affected.
However, the momentary pause indeed gave him a bit of surprise; a demigod-level mage, even in such dire straits, had the energy to trip him up.
Mateo sensed the presence behind him only paused briefly before resuming the pursuit, his expression sank.
The Void Rift Grenade hadn’t bought enough time; he needed a longer, more stable window to activate the transdimensional escape scroll.
But activating the transdimensional escape scroll required at least thirty seconds of standing still, and the being behind obviously wouldn’t grant him that.
Any method capable of transdimensional escape was not simple, and for Mateo to have such means was already impressive.
As for techniques like Vera’s that transported hundreds of kilometers away, they held no significance for him.
At the Level 3 and Level 4 levels, hundreds of kilometers were merely a hair’s breadth.
If the opponent chooses to pursue, it’s only a matter of taking one or two more steps.
He took a deep breath and stopped running.
Not because he didn’t want to run, but because he couldn’t escape.
Rather than being torn from behind during escape, it was better to turn and face the battle.
He couldn’t win, but he could at least delay for a while to see if he could wait for reinforcements.
A demigod-level mage’s counterattack before death could make the opponent pay some price.
His body abruptly stopped in the magma, turning around to face the approaching dark red glow.
The pale blue shield around him condensed to the extreme, its surface adorned with dense rune patterns.
His hands formed a peculiar seal before his chest, and a spear constructed of pure ice elements took shape in his palms.
Gathering ice elements in this magma depth itself was a display of Rule Power.
The surface of the ice spear shimmered with a dark blue chill light, the magma around it cooled and solidified upon contact, forming an increasingly thickening obsidian wall before the spear tip.
"Since you insist on chasing, come then."
Mateo’s tone was calm, but each word carried a steely resolve.
He was a demigod-level mage; even if he died in battle, he wouldn’t die kneeling.
Just as the words fell, the magma before him burst violently.
Jin Mo stepped out from the surging lava, his dark golden skin reflecting a cold glow in the magma’s illumination.
He did not respond to Mateo’s words, nor did he waste a word before attacking.
Answering him were dozens of crimson fire spears conjured from the void, each spear constructed by pure Flame Rule Power, with tips concentrating a frightening temperature capable of penetrating a demigod-level defensive shield, pouring down like a meteor shower upon Mateo.
Mateo’s pupils contracted, the opponent’s mastery of Flame Rules far exceeded his expectations.
