Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 987 - 836: The Fall of the Fire Sect

Augustus’s dark red robe was covered in shattered glaze dust, and the golden flame pattern embroidered on the cuff was torn open, his white hair disheveled over his shoulders.

He propped himself up with one hand on the ground and slowly stood up, a trace of dark red blood seeping from the corner of his mouth, his deep brown pupils reflecting the four-colored giant hand still suspended in mid-air, showing an expression of disbelief for the first time.

This type of power was something Augustus encountered for the first time; he was very aware that the four-color divine light belonged to an extremely formidable rule power.

Yet this rule power was peculiar, as it seemed to contain multiple rule powers flowing within, without any conflict between them.

The only rule power Augustus could clearly sense was the fire element rule power, with other sensations being indistinct.

Metallic yellow sand combined with the four-color divine light was a method Duke recently researched.

Yellow sand that absorbed magic metal could also serve as a carrier of rule power.

Though the rule power metallic yellow sand could endure was not much, Duke only needed the four-color divine light to be able to attach to it.

Because the four-color divine light, although immensely powerful, was also very consuming and burdensome.

Given Duke’s current spiritual power, magic power, and rule control ability, using the four-color divine light was somewhat strenuous.

However, he found that if the four-color divine light was attached to metallic yellow sand, he could manage it much more easily.

Duke did not give Augustus a chance to catch his breath; the giant hand condensed from the four-color divine light pursued in the blink of an eye, seizing Augustus.

The moment the four-color giant hand grasped Augustus, this Great Mage of the Fire Sect did not beg for mercy.

The remaining magic power within him was completely ignited in desperation, and his skin surfaced with dense dark red cracks, from which emerged not blood, but firelight so pure it was nearly white-hot.

Augustus was turning his body into the final vessel for flame rules, making one last stand at the cost of his life.

The four-color divine light of the giant hand swirled madly around him, like four blades, each rotation shearing away the flames surging from his body.

Augustus pressed his hands firmly against the ever-tightening four-color light wall, flame rule power gushing wildly from his palms, attempting to burn through this rule hand from the inside with pure high temperatures.

If it were an attack condensed from a single rule, with his Level 3 Middle Stage flame rule expertise, he might indeed find a weak point to tear open by force.

But the four-color divine light was a fusion of four rules, its strength unlike anything Augustus had ever witnessed in his life.

This unequal struggle lasted less than a few minutes.

Augustus’s magic power reserves were already dwindling year by year, and his life-shortening body was like an oil well on the brink of drying up, with each full exertion overdrawing the already nearly exhausted essence of his life.

The dark red cracks on his body grew denser and brighter, with the flames erupting from them shifting from white-hot to dark red, and from dark red to pale, foreshadowing the impending exhaustion of flame rule power.

When the flame rule was completely exhausted, his own body would become the final fuel.

Duke stood still, his right hand slowly closing.

The four-color giant hand accordingly increased pressure, with the four-color divine light between its fingers changing from swirling to surging, each flicker tightening its grip, crushing the last layers of flame surrounding Augustus.

Augustus’s arms were the first to give out, sagging limply amidst the muffled sound of bones cracking, followed by his chest caving in under pressure from all directions, the sound of ribs being compressed within the small space of the giant hand’s palm was particularly dull.

He opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, perhaps a curse, a name, or maybe just the meaningless sound of air being forced out of his compressed lungs through his throat.

Then, the flame that had burned for over four hundred years in Augustus’s deep brown pupils finally gently extinguished.

When the four-color giant hand released, Augustus’s body no longer moved.

Duke withdrew the giant hand, and the metallic yellow sand transformed into a stream of dark gold as it flowed back into his sleeve.

He walked up to Augustus, bent down, picked up the last Great Mage of the Fire Sect’s corpse, and pushed open the deformed door of the conference hall, burned by the rule of flame, making his way up the tower’s spiral staircase.

The volcanic glaze walls on both sides of the staircase still retained the residual warmth of the flame rule Augustus had unleashed earlier, those glaze bricks melting and solidifying under high temperatures, forming tear-streaked patterns on the wall surfaces.

Duke’s footsteps echoed in the empty spiral staircase; with every step, he came closer to the pinnacle of power at Furnace Castle.

The highest point of the central tower at Furnace Castle was the dome of the Fire Sect’s main hall.

The dome was forged from a solid piece of volcanic glaze, ascending upwards in an octagonal shape, with each side of the glaze inlaid with the names and achievements of past Great Mages in gold, the central piece bearing Augustus’s name, the gold gleaming coldly on the dark red glaze.

Duke climbed out from the window under the dome, stepping onto the flagpole beam on the front of the dome, hanging Augustus’s corpse on the topmost crossbar of the flagpole.

The dark red robe flapped loudly in the wind, with white hair hanging down messily, covering the now lifeless aged face.

Duke looked down, observing that below in the plaza in front of the main hall, the Defender Legion of the Fire Sect was fiercely battling the intruders.
