Wizard: Starting With Synthesized Gems
Chapter 742: If You Kill Me, Who Will Pay You Back? The Peach Mountain and the swirling rose-petal wind crashed into each other.
The rose petals moved like snowflakes swept through a flowing gale, swirling and billowing, clashing violently against the magical power contained within the Peach Mountain.
As a Sun-Herding Dragon, the one advantage Locke currently had over his wizard self was his innately powerful dragon body. He forced open one dragon eye and observed what was happening.
Even the Death Dragon, black as pitch and moving like a mountain range, felt the threat to its life at this moment, and proactively retreated from the area.
"Is this their Grand Magic?"
Locke thought to himself, "No. This is not a Grand Magic. This is Third Circle magic. Within these spells... there is planar force."
Even within a Grand Magic, planar force would not appear.
The clash between the Peach Mountain and the rose-petal wind was, in essence, the collision of two different kinds of planar truth.
Had Locke not been a Second Circle wizard at this moment, capable of directly perceiving changes in planar force with the naked eye, he would never have been able to detect this at all.
And the moment one perceived it, one could feel the absolute and enormous gap that existed between a Second Circle wizard and a Third Circle wizard.
This was literally two worlds colliding.
And the scale of the collision far surpassed anything he had witnessed in the Silent Chalice competition, when the disc world and the Silent Plane had collided.
In other words, what was happening here was something equivalent to an apocalypse.
Everyone felt an apocalyptic level of magic pressure conflict erupting above their heads, that force filled with destruction guiding all the power around them toward a state of ruin.
And so in this place, stones were splitting open of their own accord, the magical tides were becoming extreme, and the dragon force within Locke's body was continuously shifting toward a state of destruction.
At the same time, Locke let out a dragon roar he could not suppress.
Wizard Kelt was startled, turned to look, and then shouted out loudly.
"It is not a Sun-Herding Dragon at all. What in the world is it?"
The Golden Crown Mountain and Rose Council's Second Circle wizards looked over at once, and what they saw were one after another Grand Magic Runes appearing around Locke's body. Those black-violet inscriptions were crawling across its body like an aura of destruction, carrying some kind of terrifying destructive power.
Beneath the apocalyptic conditions, and within the body of a Second Circle dragon, the hidden dragon bloodline within Locke's body began to stir restlessly, as though it intended to develop and perfect itself further.
Locke was surprised. "After I became a Second Circle wizard, the Three-Eyed Tiger Cat bloodline advanced to Second Circle alongside my breakthrough, but the demon dragon bloodline showed no change at all."
"At the time, I guessed it was because the demon dragon bloodline within my body was incomplete. Even if I became a Second Circle wizard and completed a soul-level breakthrough, the demon dragon bloodline would not automatically replenish itself."
"I had been planning to use archaeology magic to find an opportunity to complete the demon dragon bloodline and bring it to Second Circle level. I never expected that transforming into a Sun-Herding Dragon this time would inadvertently give the demon dragon bloodline within my body a chance."
At this moment, the demon dragon bloodline within his body was attempting to replenish itself.
Locke guessed that three conditions had to be satisfied to trigger this process of self-completion.
The first was that he needed to be a Second Circle wizard. His soul's essential nature had to be at the Second Circle level, otherwise this situation could absolutely not have arisen.
The second was that an apocalyptic event had to be occurring.
The third was that there had to be a Second Circle-grade dragon bloodline within his body that could be devoured.
At this moment, the phantom of a Sun-Herding Dragon appeared behind Locke's back, as though making one final effort, raising its head and letting out a furious roar. But in the next instant, a demon dragon claw descended from above and pressed down onto its head, pinning the entire dragon beneath its foot.
In the next moment, three demon dragon phantoms let out roars.
Then one of those phantom dragon heads began greedily and ceaselessly absorbing the apocalyptic aura drifting through the air. The other two dragon heads lowered and bit down repeatedly into the Sun-Herding Dragon's body, and with each bite devoured a portion of the Sun-Herding Dragon's power.
Inside Locke's body, the Sun-Herding Dragon bloodline essence was converting into World-Annihilating Demon Dragon bloodline essence, filling in the gaps of the demon dragon's bloodline essence.
"I never imagined that world marvel, the Dragon-Tasting Marvel, would end up benefiting me like this."
Locke was astonished.
All one could say was that a world marvel truly lived up to its name.
The demon dragon bloodline, which had been unable to advance further because of its incompleteness and had come to a dead end, was now, through the apocalyptic aura released by the clash of two Third Circle wizards and the absorption of the complete bloodline of the Sun-Herding Dragon, managing to fill in the missing portion and develop toward the Second Circle stage.
"Is this something Teacher calculated in advance?"
Locke realized this was probably not a coincidence.
He had previously paid close attention to many of Witch Yekaterina's past articles. Of course, since he had been a First Circle wizard at the time, he had been unable to access her higher-level articles, and had only read a portion of what she had written during her First Circle stage.
Those articles had contained extensive theory on using magical plants to feed magical creatures and cause them to undergo evolution.
Looking at her Grand Magic, Beast Tide Ecology, there was a great deal of content within it relating to plant feed science. A considerable portion of her own energy during the First Circle stage had been devoted to this field.
And so she naturally knew how to help him complete his Second Circle demon dragon bloodline.
On the other side, the Rose Witch with her young girl appearance emerged from within the small void flyer. She pushed up the brim of her wizard hat and let out a soft sound of surprise.
"Hmm? The Dragon Mountain Range does always produce these kinds of strange and unusual dragons. What a pitiful creature. That Sun-Herding Dragon has the bloodline of a World-Annihilating Demon Dragon within its body, and under the combined force of yours and mine, it cannot even maintain its own true form. The demon dragon bloodline within it is absorbing the apocalyptic aura and growing strong. Three heads... and not a low grade either."
"Truly pitiful."
The Rose Witch glanced toward the other side, at Witch Esther, who was clenching her teeth and bearing the full weight of the two Third Circle spells' pressure.
"Just as pitiful as you, Esther."
"Both of you are children who cannot figure out what you truly are."
The Rose Witch did not think much of Locke's existence. After all, world marvels were things associated with the New Sea Route, and the Rose Council had little interest in the New Sea Route.
And so she did not know of the Dragon-Tasting Marvel's existence.
Beyond that, the Dragon Mountain Range of the Atlas Mountains was the Chasm separating many wizard lands from one another across the Eastern Border Region.
Dragon-kind migrated along the Dragon Mountain Range, and could follow the mountains to reach other wizard lands, causing devastating harm to the wizard lands along the way.
The Rose Witch said, "Before the Six Towers of the Land of Six Towers, those six faith towers, suppressed the critical nodes of the Dragon Mountain Range, dragon disasters could spread through one-third of the Eastern Border Region by following the Atlas Mountains. Only after the White Wizard Association voted to approve the construction of the Six Towers to suppress dragon disasters did this change."
"And so the Dragon Mountain Range contains many dragon-kind creatures. It is not at all unusual for a Sun-Herding Dragon with a demon dragon bloodline to appear here. Of course, if four demon dragons were to appear, or the exceedingly rare five demon dragons, in a region this peripheral, that would be strange."
The Rose Witch looked up at a projection of Witch Yekaterina hovering in the sky above, and spoke. "I have heard that there are still wizards in the Land of Six Towers. The danger of the dragon disasters has receded, but the descendants of the dragon tamers of the Land of Six Towers continue to uphold their duties to this day."
"How truly... moving."
"The entire Land of Six Towers was carved out of the surrounding three wizard lands, the Spiral Basin, the Liqian Plains, and the Ten-Thousand Mountain Range, with the Spiral Basin in having its only fertile and normal flatland region cut away, which has left the Spiral Basin impoverished to this day, and forced that region, in its pursuit of prosperity, to maintain murky and ambiguous dealings with black wizards, earning it an infamous reputation."
Witch Yekaterina did not speak, but watched the Rose Witch in silence.
She could not speak, for fear that the Rose Witch might detect any possibility that the Sun-Herding Dragon was a Golden Crown Mountain wizard in disguise. At this moment, she was using the Rose Witch's clash with her to allow Locke to develop his demon dragon bloodline.
However, in truth, it was likely still going to fall a little short. There was still something missing, and to fill in that final gap, Locke would have to find a way on his own.
At this moment, the demon dragon bloodline within Locke's body was continuously converting the Sun-Herding Dragon's body, shifting it toward the demon dragon form. His demon dragon bloodline was growing stronger with every passing moment, but it was still just short of what was needed.
Locke did the calculations.
"No, this is wrong. Even following the intended plan, absorbing the apocalyptic aura and fully using the Sun-Herding Dragon's bloodline essence to complete the demon dragon bloodline's deficiency, it is still one step short. Just that one step is what determines whether the demon dragon bloodline can become a Second Circle existence."
"What is it?"
Locke's expression changed subtly.
Because a failure to advance the bloodline would mean the demon dragon bloodline would drop back to the First Circle crystallization level. This would cause two major consequences.
The first was that he would be unable to maintain his dragon form, which would be equivalent to prematurely exhausting the world marvel's power, and he would revert to his human form in front of everyone.
Although he no longer had any clear idea whether the situation was still within Witch Yekaterina's control, it was best to honor his prior commitment.
The second was that the failure of the bloodline advancement would critically wound him.
Because this would amount to a failed First Circle to Second Circle breakthrough.
Should the breakthrough fail, he would suffer severe recoil. Of course, given his Second Circle wizard's level of life essence, it would likely not be life-threatening, but he would be weakened for a considerable period of time, and might even be left with a persistent underlying ailment.
"Should I eat the surrounding wyverns and use them to supplement the demon dragon bloodline, using them as fuel to burn?"
A thought stirred within him. The Earth Demon Bear bloodline he had once carried had long since been fed into the demon dragon bloodline during the First Circle stage.
"No good. The wyverns' power is insufficient. Eating them would accomplish nothing. If it truly comes to it, I would have to take a bite out of the Death Dragon. But the Death Dragon is overwhelmingly powerful. Would a single bite not shatter my teeth?"
Locke thought to himself.
"So what should I do now?"
Fortunately, at this moment every wizard had their full attention consumed by the magic pressure clash between the two Third Circle wizards, and no one was going to attack him right now.
Locke's dragon pupils shifted, and he nearly choked. Wizard Kelt was pressing against the chaotic pressure from the Third Circle conflict and edging toward him, as though he intended to do something.
Damn it.
Wizard Kelt stared at the Sun-Herding Dragon's location with gleaming eyes and a burning desire for revenge.
"Earlier in front of everyone, he knocked me flying with one tail swipe and made me completely lose face."
"I have no face left at all now. If I can use this moment to ambush it and hunt down this troublesome dragon, not only will I recover my dignity and have my revenge, I will have something to show for it to the Throne. If it were not for this foolish dragon triggering the dragon disaster, Esther could never have escaped here."
"Besides, although this foolish dragon is a bit dim, its entire body is a treasure trove."
"If I can successfully hunt it down, everything on it will be mine."
Wizard Kelt unfurled the Serene Prairie behind him, and casually plucked a stalk of vetiver from the prairie, then recited half an incantation. In an instant, the Second Circle spell model of the Grass and Wood Divine Weapon, augmented by a Grand Magic Rune, enveloped the vetiver stalk, transforming that First Circle vetiver grass into a divine weapon blade.
Honestly speaking, this spell was the clearest evidence that he had wasted a spell slot on his Grand Magic.
Back when Wizard Kelt had been making his way in the Serene Garden wizard organization, he had given Grass and Wood Divine Weapon one of his Grand Magic's spell slots, feeling he had gotten a good deal.
After all, this was a spell comparable to a Second Circle magical artifact wizard sword.
Then he arrived at Golden Crown Mountain and realized his mistake.
Because a wizard sword was something one could simply purchase, and yet he had wasted an entire spell slot just to give the magical plants in his hand the function of a wizard sword.
It was a purely inefficient arrangement.
Wizard Kelt had always wanted to replace the Grass and Wood Divine Weapon, but every replacement of a Grand Magic Rune consumed an enormous amount of resources and time, and required enduring a certain degree of spell shock. He had never been able to find the time to do it.
Wizard Kelt gripped the Grass and Wood Divine Weapon and pushed through the chaotic magic pressure toward Locke.
On the other side, Locke's pupils suddenly contracted sharply.
Damn.
This joke had gone too far.
Right now, the bloodline throughout his entire body was in chaos, with only limited capacity to resist.
Unless he immediately revealed his identity, once Wizard Kelt launched his attack, would he not be in terrible straits?
But if he did that, his identity would be exposed.
Wizard Kelt lunged forward with a straight thrust. The vetiver transformed into a divine sword that cut through everything, sending sparks flying across the dragon scales, then pierced through one scale, and then dragon blood erupted.
Locke urgently retreated. He attempted to deploy his Grand Magic but found that under the magical chaos triggered by the demon dragon bloodline, he was completely unable to activate his Grand Magic.
Wizard Kelt's eyes lit up with excitement. He was about to successfully hunt a rare dragon.
On ordinary days he would never dare venture this deep into the Dragon Mountain Range on his own. If a creature like the Death Dragon appeared, he would have a very difficult time escaping.
For an ordinary Second Circle wizard, the Death Dragon's name was not a classification or a metaphor. It was a statement of fact.
Locke's heart was nearly at a loss for words.
If you kill me, who is going to pay you back?
Do you understand? You are my creditor! As my creditor, you are actually going to thrust magic straight at my heart?
The vetiver divine weapon was pressing deeper and deeper into Locke's chest, simultaneously congealing his power. The blade was on the verge of piercing straight through his dragon heart.
Wizard Kelt burst into laughter. "Hahahaha..."
