World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch
Chapter 29: Are You Really Human? While waiting for Anna and William to return with the guards, Evan thought about the battle from earlier.
’That Rank One Bear I am thinking about fighting... It might be far stronger than I initially thought.’
When the Steel Bear Evan had killed called for the Rank One Bear for help during their battle, Evan had sensed its aura from a distance.
That aura had been far stronger than Mike’s.
And it wasn’t just in terms of strength. After experiencing Mike’s Level 36 aura, Evan could tell that the level of that bear was also far higher than Level 36.
Previously, Evan had assumed that the Rank One Bear might not be particularly strong among Rank One magical creatures because it was living in the outer area of the Dark Forest instead of the inner area.
But now, it seemed that its reason for staying in the outer area wasn’t because it was weak, but because of something completely different.
’Maybe it’s because of the Steel Bear I killed. That Rank One Bear might have been the companion of the Steel Bear and was living here for its sake, waiting for it to evolve into Rank One before heading toward the deeper areas of the Dark Forest together.’
Although Evan felt that the Rank One Bear might be far more powerful than he had initially expected, instead of feeling afraid, he became even more eager to fight it.
’Even if I am wrong about its level, its Agility definitely isn’t very high. If it were, it would have arrived in time to save that Steel Bear.’
Thinking this, Evan felt confident that he could escape if things went badly during the battle.
Around two hours later, Evan had to drink another antidote potion to continue suppressing the poison in his arm.
Just as he finished drinking the potion, he noticed several people approaching from the distance.
Among them, he immediately recognized Anna and William.
’They are quite fast...’ Evan couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow when he saw them as he had expected them to take a few more hours to return with the guards.
When Anna and William saw Evan from a distance, they both sighed in relief.
Although they had seen Evan defeat the two slave traders as easily as an adult beating a child, they had still been worried that he wouldn’t be able to fight against a Rank One Evolver for long.
As they came closer, Evan noticed that, besides Anna and William, there were four other people wearing light-blue uniforms with spear-shaped designs on them.
Evan immediately recognized the uniforms as those of the Rivo City Guards.
Among the four guards, two were Level 25, while the other two were Rank One Evolvers.
Evan sensed the aura of the two Rank One guards and immediately realized that both of them were slightly stronger than Mike.
At first, when the guards, Anna, and William saw Evan sitting quietly, they assumed that he had been injured while fighting Mike and that Mike had escaped.
However, when they got closer, they finally noticed a person with a disfigured face and broken limbs tied to a tree nearby and their eyes widened in shock.
"Is this person the slave trader?" Charles, one of the Rank One Evolvers and the captain of the small team, asked in disbelief while staring at Mike with wide eyes.
"Yes, that’s him," Evan replied casually before standing up and dusting off his pants.
"Just how did he end up like this?" One of the Level 25 guards asked, still unable to believe his eyes.
He was having a hard time believing that a young man whose level was even lower than his had actually defeated a Rank One Evolver and left him in such a miserable condition.
Evan paused for a moment upon hearing his question and thought about how to answer.
Obviously, he couldn’t say that he had simply punched Mike once in the face and nearly knocked him unconscious before tying him up and breaking his limbs.
If he said that, they would probably think he was joking.
So, he simply shrugged his shoulders and remained silent.
The second Rank One Evolver, John, approached Mike and began untying him.
Meanwhile, Charles walked over to Evan.
"Thank you for rescuing the children from the hands of these scums. If you ever need any kind of help, please come to Rivo City. We will gladly help you to the best of our abilities."
"Sure." Evan accepted the guard’s goodwill with a smile.
Though, he felt that if he ever needed help, he would definitely go to his grandparents rather than some strangers.
After thanking Evan, Charles walked toward the other guards, who were trying to wake Mike.
Once he left, Anna and William finally approached Evan.
"Are you really human?" William asked as soon as he came close.
Evan’s mouth twitched slightly at his question, and he rolled his eyes.
"What else do you think I am if not human?"
Anna immediately smacked William on the back of his head.
"Ouch!"
William rubbed his head and looked at Anna with a wronged expression.
Anna ignored him and turned toward Evan before bowing slightly.
"Thank you for saving us. Earlier, we didn’t get the chance to properly thank you for helping us."
Evan shook his head and spoke calmly.
"Don’t worry about it. It was just a small matter."
"Maybe it’s a small matter to you, but if you hadn’t helped us in time, we would have really been in big trouble this time," William said as he also bowed to Evan. "Thank you for helping us."
Evan looked at the two siblings in front of him before smiling slightly.
"I am Evan. What about you?"
Hearing this, both of them finally remembered that they hadn’t told him their names.
"I am William, and this is my younger sister, Anna."
As they talked, Anna noticed the cloth tied around Evan’s arm, which was stained with black blood.
"You are poisoned?"
Evan paused when he heard her question and sighed before showing them the dull, old-looking knife that seemed to be on the verge of falling apart.
After seeing the details of the knife, both of them frowned slightly.
"It’s not easy to cure poison from a one-time-use item without using a high-grade potion," William said after examining the knife.
One-time-use items, as their name suggested, were items that could only be used once. After being activated, they would lose their special properties and become ordinary items.
That was why the sharp-looking knife had now become nothing more than a dull, cracked old blade.
Because one-time-use items concentrated all their power into a single use, the power they released could be extremely potent.
That was also the reason why Evan’s Wind Barrier, Wolf Robe, and Blaze Barrier had been unable to completely stop the Sharp Poison Knife despite their defensive abilities.
Anna thought for a moment before walking closer to Evan after seeing the details of the knife.
"Show me where you were poisoned."
Evan raised an eyebrow upon hearing her and looked at her in confusion.
"Just do as she says. She should be able to remove the poison from your arm," William said when he saw the confused expression on Evan’s face.
"Remove the poison?"
Evan was surprised when he heard this and suddenly thought of something.
He quickly removed the cloth covering the wound, revealing the injury left by the knife.
Anna’s expression became serious when she saw the wound and she placed her palm over it.
The next second, a white glow appeared around her palm, enveloping Evan’s injury.
