World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch
Chapter 48: Colossal Skeleton General (Part 1)Because Evan had lost his momentum while running, more and more skeletons began gathering around him.
He tried his best to kill as many skeletons as possible to escape, but the skeletons kept coming like ants.
Soon, he found himself completely overwhelmed by the skeletons, and injuries began appearing all over his body. Some of the skeletons even jumped over the others, trying to bury him beneath their sheer numbers.
Evan tried his best to break free from the skeletons, but there were simply too many of them.
’I don’t know if this is going to work, but I have no other choice.’
Suddenly, Evan stopped attacking, and his expression became focused.
When the skeletons saw that he had stopped struggling, they began attacking him even more aggressively. The injuries on Evan’s body continued to deepen, and even his Wolf Robe was torn in several places as blood dripped from his wounds.
Just then, two Rank One Skeleton Captains arrived and jumped over the other skeletons, suddenly attacking Evan together.
The swords of the two skeletons moved closer to his neck, intending to sever his head.
Just as the attacks of the Rank One Skeletons were about to hit him, a sharp light flashed in Evan’s eyes, and he swung the Black Star in a wide circular motion.
The instant he did so, all of his physical strength was channeled through the sword.
And the next instant—
BOOOOOOM!
A powerful shockwave was released from the sword in a ring-shaped wave, blasting away all the skeletons within a five-meter radius around Evan.
Even the Rank One Skeleton Captains were unable to withstand the shockwave and their bodies immediately crumbled into piles of white bones.
A thin line of blood seeped from the corner of Evan’s mouth, but he didn’t waste this opportunity and immediately started running again.
However, his speed was much slower compared to before.
The sword move Evan had just used was called Shockwave Severance.
It was a move he had learned from the Basic Sword Art skill, but this technique required mana to fully utilize its power.
It could be used without mana by relying solely on physical strength, but the backlash was extremely severe. If someone with a weaker body were to use it, their body might even collapse from the backlash.
Because he couldn’t use mana, Evan had to rely entirely on his physical strength to use this move.
But despite having a powerful physical body, he was still seriously injured by the backlash.
As he ran, Evan couldn’t help but grit his teeth because his entire body was screaming in pain.
’Good thing Grandpa gave me pain tolerance training when I was little. If not, I wouldn’t even be able to move right now.’
Evan swung the Black Star with heavy arms to clear his path.
And learning from his previous mistake, he kept a close eye on the skeletons he was attacking, making sure to avoid the Rank One Skeleton Captains so that he wouldn’t get slowed down again.
Finally, after another minute of desperately running forward, Evan managed to break free from the skeleton army and immediately dashed away from it.
He ran for nearly five minutes, and only after confirming that he had left the skeleton army far behind did he finally stop.
Evan was seriously injured at the moment, so after widening the distance between himself and the skeleton army, he immediately slumped onto the ground and took out a healing potion.
There were numerous wounds covering his body, most of them still dripping blood.
’If I didn’t have Steel Body and the Wolf Robe, I can’t even imagine how many limbs I would have lost while trying to break free from that skeleton army.’
Evan shuddered slightly just thinking about it.
He drank the healing potion and leaned back against the dungeon wall, his mood slightly heavy.
’I don’t know how many more skeletons I’ll have to face before reaching the end of the fourth floor...’
He looked deeper into the floor and let out a long breath.
’I just hope they won’t come in a group like they did this time.’
After resting for nearly three hours, Evan’s injuries had mostly recovered, and he finally stood up and continued his journey.
He walked for some time before coming across another group of tombstones.
The moment he saw the tombstones, his expression immediately became tense, as he was afraid that thousands of skeletons would spawn once again.
He stared at the tombstones for a few minutes before taking a deep breath and finally walking toward them.
’I just hope there won’t be another skeleton army this time.’
RUMBLE!
As Evan approached the tombstones, they suddenly began to shake violently, and a moment later—
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! - - - -
All of the tombstones burst apart, and around twenty Skeleton Captains emerged from beneath them.
Evan stared at the twenty Rank One Skeleton Captains for a moment.
When he realized that there was no enormous army of skeletons behind them, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
Although there were twenty Rank One Skeleton Captains standing before him, the pressure they put on him was far lower than that of a massive army.
"You guys came at the right time. I was just looking for some skeletons to smash after you all ganged up on me last time."
Evan said with a grin and the next second, his figure flickered as he charged toward the group of skeletons.
His figure flashed across the graveyard, and the twenty Skeleton Captains immediately raised their swords and charged toward him as well.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! - - - -
The sounds of swords clashing echoed throughout the graveyard.
Unlike the unranked Skeleton Soldiers he had faced earlier, these Skeleton Captains were much stronger and were also capable of coordinating their attacks with one another.
However, Evan had already experienced fighting groups of Skeleton Captains before.
He carefully observed their movements while fighting and gradually found a way to deal with their coordinated attacks.
His sword moved continuously as he dodged their attacks and counterattacked whenever he found an opening.
SWOOSH! CRACK!
One Skeleton Captain after another fell beneath his sword.
However, because there were twenty of them, Evan still had to fight carefully.
Thirty minutes later, Evan was lying among a pile of shattered bones, several minor injuries covering his body as he breathed heavily.
"These skeletons really know how to work as a team."
He shook his head helplessly before taking out another healing potion.
He drank it in one go and waited for his injuries to recover slightly before standing up and continuing deeper into the graveyard.
For the next several hours, Evan continued moving through the fourth floor.
He encountered more groups of Skeleton Captains, but fortunately, he didn’t encounter another skeleton army like the one he had faced earlier.
Although the number of Skeleton Captains increased the deeper he went, Evan was still able to deal with them after figuring out their attack patterns.
After ten hours, Evan finally arrived at the end of the hall on the fourth floor.
Seeing the end, he couldn’t help but feel relieved as during those ten hours, Evan had fought more than a hundred Skeleton Captains.
When Evan reached the end of the hall, he initially didn’t see anything unusual and waited for the portal to the fifth floor to appear.
However, a moment later—
RUMBLE!
The entire fourth floor suddenly began to shake violently.
Evan’s expression changed, and he immediately noticed black smoke beginning to fill his surroundings.
Seeing the strange phenomenon, Evan quickly tightened his grip around the Black Star and carefully looked around.
The black smoke continued spreading until it covered almost the entire graveyard.
Then, suddenly, it began moving toward a single point.
Slowly, the smoke gathered together and started forming the shape of a skeleton.
At first, the skeleton’s body looked extremely illusory, as if it could disappear at any moment.
But the more black smoke it absorbed, the more solid its body became.
Its bones gradually became clearer.
Its limbs took shape.
Its skull became completely solid.
And when the remaining black smoke disappeared, a black skeleton stood before Evan.
Unlike the other skeletons Evan had encountered, this skeleton was wearing dark armor that covered its entire body and was holding a dark sword in its hand.
The skeleton looked completely different from all the other skeletons Evan had seen before.
More importantly, the aura it emitted was far more powerful than that of any skeleton he had encountered on this floor.
Standing nearly two meters tall, its black-armored body gave off an oppressive feeling.
’This damn dungeon is really not giving me a break...’
Evan cursed inwardly as he carefully observed the skeleton in front of him.
The skeleton also silently stared at Evan through its hollow black eye sockets visible behind the helmet it was wearing.
WHOOSH!
Just when Evan was looking at it, the skeleton suddenly disappeared from its position.
Evan’s pupils contracted, and a powerful sense of danger suddenly came from behind him.
Without even turning around, he immediately swung the Black Star backward.
CLANG!
His sword collided with the skeleton’s dark sword, and a tremendous force exploded from the collision, pushing Evan’s body several meters backward.
Evan quickly stabilized his footing and looked at the skeleton with a serious expression.
From that single clash, he had realized that the Agility and Strength of the skeleton were almost on par with his own.
’If I want to win this fight without using mana, I’ll have to use everything I have.’
Evan didn’t wait for the skeleton to attack and took the initiative.
BOOM!
The ground beneath his feet exploded as he dashed forward at his full speed.
In the blink of an eye, he arrived before the black skeleton.
SWOOSH!
The sword cut through the air with tremendous force, heading toward the skeleton’s helmet covered head.
However, the skeleton reacted extremely quickly and immediately raised its dark sword, placing it in front of its head to block Evan’s attack.
But just as the two swords were about to collide, Evan sneered and slightly twisted his wrist.
The trajectory of the Black Star changed instantly and instead of striking the skeleton’s head, the blade slashed toward its chest.
BANG!
The Black Star struck the skeleton’s dark armor and sent it staggering backward, leaving a deep cut across its armor.
Evan’s eyes narrowed when he saw this, and he couldn’t help but click his tongue.
’Tch! If not for that armor, I’m sure some of its bones would have been shattered by my attack.’
Though he grumbled, Evan didn’t give the skeleton any time to recover and immediately followed up with another attack.
As Evan’s sword got closer to the skeleton, it didn’t attempt to block like last time.
Instead, it suddenly opened its mouth, and a dark energy ball rapidly condensed inside it.
’What the—?’
Evan’s eyes widened in shock and before he could think any further—
BOOM!
The dark energy ball shot toward him at terrifying speed.
Because Evan was already too close to the skeleton, he had almost no time to dodge and could only bring the Black Star in front of his body.
The dark energy ball collided directly with his sword and—
BOOOOOOM!
A terrifying explosion erupted, and the tremendous force behind the attack blasted Evan backward.
His body flew nearly ten meters through the air before crashing heavily onto the ground.
BANG!
Evan rolled across the ground and spat out a mouthful of blood, his entire body aching.
’Fuck...’
He cursed inwardly, his ears buzzing because of the explosion that had occurred so close to his face.
Although Evan was feeling dizzy, he still gritted his teeth and immediately stood up.
His hands, which were gripping the Black Star, trembling slightly.
Though he was in pain and his entire body had been shaken by the impact, thanks to his Steel Body skill and the protection of the Wolf Robe, none of his bones had broken.
Standing up, Evan looked at the rapidly approaching skeleton and couldn’t help but sigh.
"Can’t I get something normal in this dungeon? Even a skeleton is shooting energy balls now."
