Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 388: Worrying About HerMiles Mercer said, "They’re very similar. We ran into her at the airport that day and noticed her eyes looked a lot like our aunt’s. That’s why we looked into it, and that’s when we discovered she was our aunt’s daughter."
"That’s impossible. How could Sylvia Blackwood’s eyes look like mine?" Ivy Sherwood found it incredibly curious.
"I don’t know what’s going on, but you should definitely investigate it further."
Xavier Mercer and Connor Mercer exchanged a look. Xavier said, "She saw you but didn’t dare take off her sunglasses the whole time. Something’s definitely off."
Connor Mercer said, "But there can’t be a mistake in the identification report from the hospital. How do you explain that?"
Xavier Mercer said, "Our people will be here soon. We’ll just have another test done then."
He didn’t trust a single hospital in Lustre right now. If Caleb Blackwood had really pulled some strings, the Blackwood Family’s high standing in Lustre meant he surely wouldn’t have bribed just one hospital.
Still, Ivy Sherwood was curious. Just how much did Sylvia Blackwood’s eyes resemble hers?
’So, is Sylvia Blackwood part of the Mercer Family or not?’
Whether she was or not, they all enjoyed the meal.
After the meal, the old master held Ivy Sherwood’s hand again and chatted with her for a long time.
It was as if he had an endless stream of things to say. They talked deep into the evening, with the old master still holding onto Ivy. It took Xavier and the others a long time to persuade him, reminding him that Grandpa needed to rest and Ivy had to get home too, before he finally gave in.
Xavier Mercer offered to drive Ivy Sherwood home, but she had driven herself and declined his kind offer.
Xavier Mercer said, "Thank you for keeping Grandpa company. The rest of us don’t actually get to spend much time with him, and he doesn’t like talking to us much. When he’s with you, though, he’s like a little kid."
"I had a wonderful time talking with Grandpa too. He’s a very kind person, and I like him a lot. If he ever wants to see me, just let me know, and I’ll come visit him again."
After exchanging a few more pleasantries with Xavier Mercer, Ivy Sherwood headed home.
When she got home, the house felt cold and empty. She had always lived alone, but for some reason, she suddenly found it hard to get used to.
Ivy Sherwood went inside, headed to her study, and continued to work.
She felt a little tired, but she couldn’t sleep.
She should schedule an appointment for an abortion. Since she’d made the decision to terminate the pregnancy, she shouldn’t have any lingering attachments or regrets.
But for some reason, whenever she was alone, her mind would be flooded with so many thoughts, tugging at her heart and making her feel awful.
For the past two days, Nina Scott had been staying with Ivy Sherwood, making sure she went to sleep. Even though Ivy would lie in bed sleepless all night, she still went to bed early.
The next evening, Elijah Hawthorne called Ivy Sherwood and asked her out to dinner.
She had agreed to it at the airport two days ago, so Ivy Sherwood went to meet him.
However, the place Elijah Hawthorne chose wasn’t a restaurant, but a private club.
This was the club under Julian Grant’s name, a place where he and his friends often gathered. It was private and didn’t have any of the usual riffraff.
When Ivy Sherwood arrived at the private room, Elijah Hawthorne was already there.
"It’s been a while, hasn’t it?" Elijah Hawthorne said, his gaze as mysterious as ever.
Ivy Sherwood said, "Mr. Hawthorne, are you in Lustre on business this time?"
Elijah Hawthorne said, "I could be, or I could not be. After all, if there’s no business, one can always find some, can’t they?"
It was a dinner for just the two of them, but the spread was still incredibly lavish.
Ivy Sherwood nodded. "True. But if you’re planning to bring up what we discussed before, Mr. Hawthorne, my answer is still the same."
A smile played on Elijah Hawthorne’s lips. "I have no intention of discussing that. I was just wondering, have you been online recently?"
"Why?"
Elijah Hawthorne unlocked his phone and handed it to Ivy Sherwood. On the screen was a news article: someone had snapped photos of the Sheridan Family’s heiress and the president of DG Group out together, sparking rumors of a romance. Joy Sheridan had even hinted to the media that good things were on the way.
Although the news was quickly taken down, many people had already seen it.
Ivy Sherwood looked at it indifferently. "Is that so? What does that have to do with me?"
Elijah Hawthorne stared at her. "It seems there really is a problem between you and Quentin Blackwood. Did you two break up?"
"That’s between him and me. You don’t need to concern yourself with it, Mr. Hawthorne."
Elijah Hawthorne raised his glass. "Alright. Miss Sherwood, you certainly are straightforward and wear your heart on your sleeve. I enjoy making friends with people like that."
Ivy Sherwood knew she shouldn’t be drinking since she was pregnant, but she felt so miserable that she wanted a drink.
After clinking glasses with Elijah Hawthorne, Ivy Sherwood downed her drink in one go.
"Miss Sherwood, you can really hold your liquor." After speaking, Elijah Hawthorne had someone refill Ivy Sherwood’s glass.
Ivy Sherwood was actually somewhat absent-minded all evening. She ended up drinking quite a bit, but she wasn’t drunk yet.
Elijah Hawthorne watched Ivy Sherwood, knowing that her heart was surely heavy with many troubles, far from the carefree image she projected.
’Better to drink your sorrows away than to keep them bottled up inside.’
But now, it was clear that Ivy Sherwood wasn’t finding any real release in it.
Soon, the meal was over, and Elijah Hawthorne led Ivy Sherwood to the private room next door.
Elijah Hawthorne ordered a lot more alcohol and had it sent to the room.
Julian Grant often brought people here to drink as well. When he saw an employee carrying so much alcohol into a private room, he grew curious. "Who is it? Who can drink that much?"
The staff member said, "I think his surname is Hawthorne."
"Hawthorne?" Julian Grant was a little curious.
He walked to the door of the private room, peeked his head inside, and was shocked to see Elijah Hawthorne.
Julian Grant was alarmed. He was on Quentin Blackwood’s side, so Quentin’s enemy was his enemy. Besides, he still remembered what happened at the resort last time.
Looking again, he saw that besides Elijah Hawthorne, Ivy Sherwood was there too!
’Didn’t Ivy go to Aethelgard with Quentin? When did she get back?’
’What is Elijah Hawthorne trying to do? Can’t get to Quentin, so he’s targeting Ivy instead?’
He quickly called Quentin Blackwood. After a while, the call connected. "Hello?"
Quentin Blackwood was still in his office, a huge pile of documents in front of him. He was still working.
He had always had trouble sleeping, and Ivy Sherwood had been like his cure. Now that the cure was gone, Quentin Blackwood had reverted to his old ways.
"Quentin, it’s me," Julian Grant said.
"What is it?"
"I just got to the club. You’ll never guess who I just saw."
"Just spit it out. Don’t play games."
"I saw Elijah Hawthorne! That bastard ordered a ton of alcohol, and Ivy is in the room with him! He’s definitely up to no good. It looks like all this booze is for Ivy. He’s not going to try something with her, is he?"
Not many people knew that Quentin Blackwood and Ivy Sherwood had broken up. Julian Grant had been in Lustre the whole time, so naturally, he didn’t know either.
"What?" Quentin Blackwood’s brows knitted together, his heart instantly clenching.
’Wasn’t Elijah Hawthorne supposed to be back in Aethelgard? When did he go to Lustre, and why is he with Ivy?’
"I see them, I see them! I knew it, Elijah Hawthorne is up to no good! I see Ivy, she’s drinking one glass after another! She looks miserable, he must be forcing her! If she keeps this up, she’s going to be a wreck! What if she ends up with a bleeding stomach or a brain hemorrhage? What then?"
Julian Grant was being extremely dramatic, but it made Quentin Blackwood’s hand tighten nonetheless.
He had barely slept these past few days. His mind was filled with her. He really missed her.
’What is that Elijah Hawthorne trying to do now? I can’t just stand by and watch him run wild.’
Quentin Blackwood hung up on Julian Grant and immediately called Zane Linton. "Get the private jet ready."
