Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 404: Falling into a Familiar Embrace"With so many people watching, we both know full well who’s asking for it. You just don’t want to take your makeup off, do you? Is that why you’re deliberately trying to goad me?"
Joy Sheridan figured Ivy Sherwood must be scared, so she pulled out a bottle of makeup remover. "I have some right here. Do you dare?"
"There’s nothing to be scared of."
Joy Sheridan smiled. "Fine. I’ll go first."
’It’s just removing makeup. That’s the one thing I’m not afraid of.’ She wanted to go first and reveal her naturally beautiful face. Then, when Ivy Sherwood took hers off, her face would surely be too ugly to look at. That would create a stark visual contrast for everyone.
With that, Joy Sheridan deftly removed her makeup.
Envious voices rose from the crowd. "Wow, she’s gorgeous even without makeup! I’m so jealous."
"Yeah, her face looks a little swollen, but it doesn’t ruin her looks at all. She could easily compete with a major celebrity."
Hearing these comments, Joy Sheridan was bursting with pride. She looked at Ivy Sherwood. "Your turn. Don’t tell me you’re scared?"
Ivy Sherwood didn’t answer, nor did she take the makeup remover from Joy Sheridan. She was afraid it might be something other than what it seemed.
Ivy Sherwood had her own makeup tools in her bag, including quick-use makeup remover wipes.
As it happened, her doctor had recently told her to use less makeup anyway. Her real face would be seen by others sooner or later.
Ivy Sherwood wiped away the dark foundation on her face. With just one swipe, Joy Sheridan was stunned.
’H-how... why? Wasn’t Ivy Sherwood’s face that dark? Covered in so many freckles, with such a dull complexion? So why is the spot she wiped so incredibly fair?’
Her skin was so tender and dewy, like a baby’s.
The others had been watching Ivy Sherwood with curiosity, but as she slowly removed her makeup, their jaws dropped.
This...
If the first woman to remove her makeup was beautiful, then this woman, who looked so plain with makeup on, was like a goddess descended to earth after taking it off. She was simply ethereal.
They had all assumed her eyelashes were fake, so long and curled, but they were actually real. She wasn’t even wearing mascara!
Was that skin even real? It was completely flawless and delicate.
Even Joy Sheridan, standing closest to her, was dumbfounded. Her eyes widened, staring in disbelief at the person before her.
’Th-this is Ivy Sherwood?’
’This is absolutely impossible. Ivy Sherwood is an ugly woman. How could she be this beautiful?’
Ivy Sherwood completely ignored Joy Sheridan’s stupefied expression and said coolly, "We both know who the uglier one is now. Whatever is going on between you and Quentin Blackwood has nothing to do with me anymore. You don’t need to come looking for validation from me. If you come looking for trouble again, don’t blame me for not holding back!"
Her warning tone and her chilling gaze, combined with her stunningly beautiful face, gave her the undeniable air of a queen.
Joy Sheridan’s breath hitched. "You..."
Ivy Sherwood didn’t even deign to give her a second glance and quickly left the beach.
Joy Sheridan stood frozen on the spot for a long time, still unable to process how Ivy Sherwood had transformed from an ugly woman into a beauty.
’How could that be Ivy Sherwood? It’s absolutely impossible. Ivy Sherwood is clearly hideous.’
’So Ivy Sherwood has been pretending to be ugly this whole time, hiding her true appearance. Does that mean Quentin Blackwood has seen her real face too?’
The people nearby who had just been calling her beautiful now started pointing fingers at Joy Sheridan. "Anyone with eyes can see who’s more beautiful. She probably failed to steal the other girl’s boyfriend and now she’s here to falsely accuse her."
"That’s not impossible. Look how fierce and aggressive she is. It’s hilarious. Challenging someone to a makeup-removal beauty contest... How embarrassing."
Joy Sheridan was someone who cared immensely about her pride. The crowd’s whispers were more painful to her than a slap to the face.
Her face burned with shame. ’Humiliating. This is utterly humiliating!’
Her fingers dug tightly into her palms as her anger morphed into jealousy. ’That Ivy Sherwood... I have to destroy that face!’
Joy Sheridan took out her phone and made a call. "Get something ready for me."
...
The Mercers were all in their rooms, so Ivy Sherwood went straight back.
The most direct path back was a straight walk from there, but it passed by a small, white, Western-style house. That building held too many memories that Ivy Sherwood didn’t want to be reminded of, so she deliberately took the long way around.
Just as she got back to where she was staying, she saw Xavier Mercer at the door.
"Xavier," Ivy Sherwood said as she walked over. "Why are you out here?"
"Ivy, why did you take off your makeup?"
"I... I just took it off." Ivy didn’t want to worry her brother.
Xavier Mercer looked tense. "I heard something happened over at the beach. Did someone give you trouble?"
Ivy was surprised the news had reached Xavier’s ears so quickly. "Someone did come looking for trouble," she said, "but I already handled it. She didn’t get the best of me."
"Ivy, if you’re feeling wronged, you have to tell us. Don’t ever keep it bottled up inside. We’re your family. You can always rely on us."
"I know, Brother. I won’t let myself be wronged."
"The person who bullied you... should I go teach them a lesson?"
"There’s no need. Besides, she’s a girl. What would it look like if you got involved, Brother? And I already hit her. It felt great!"
Thinking of the two slaps she’d given Joy Sheridan, Ivy felt a wave of satisfaction.
"Come on, let’s go inside."
There were no more suites available, so the family all had separate rooms along the same row. Ivy went to spend some time with her grandfather.
When it was time for dinner that evening, Ivy had originally considered having it sent to their rooms, but her grandfather wanted to eat in the restaurant.
So the family went straight to the restaurant. It was quite busy with other diners. They found a table and ordered their food.
It seemed her grandfather quite liked it here. He said with a broad smile, "The environment and the air here are both excellent. It’s a great place to rest and recuperate. Let’s stay here a little longer. What do you think, Ivy?"
Ivy said, "Of course, that’s a great idea. Grandpa, you can stay for as long as you like."
"Then you have to stay with me," the old man said, holding onto Ivy’s arm.
"No problem," Ivy agreed. As it happened, she felt she also needed a good long rest to relax.
With Edie and the others at the company, things were on the right track, so Ivy was very much at ease.
Just as they were eating, someone suddenly approached them, calling out Ivy Sherwood’s name. "Ivy Sherwood!"
Ivy barely had time to register something being thrown at her face when, in the next second, a figure flashed in front of her, and she fell into a familiar embrace.
The familiar scent of fir... Ivy stared blankly at the cold face before her, her mind going completely blank.
Her eyes suddenly began to sting, and an uncontrollable wave of emotion washed over her.
It wasn’t until she heard a harsh SIZZLE SIZZLE and smelled the acrid scent of something burning that she snapped back to reality.
Before she could even react, the man had already let her go.
Not daring to look at Ivy Sherwood, his murderous gaze fixed on Joy Sheridan, Quentin Blackwood’s voice was bone-chillingly cold. "What do you think you’re doing?"
