Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 408: Warning, Stay Away from Ivy SherwoodIvy Sherwood took a step back, avoiding Seth Scott’s touch.
She said, "It’s a long story, but this really is what I look like."
"Ivy, what in the world is going on?" Seth Scott feigned shock. "It doesn’t matter what you look like. You’re still the Ivy I care for."
Just as Ivy Sherwood was about to speak, Miles Mercer came over and pulled Seth Scott away. "Who the hell are you? Trying to make a move on my sister?"
Miles Mercer glared at the man, who was about his height. He was in full-on protective older brother mode now; no one was getting near his sister.
Ivy Sherwood said, "He’s Nina’s brother."
’Oh, so he’s that fierce woman’s brother.’
’No wonder I don’t like him. My first instinct was right.’
Ivy Sherwood said, "Seth, please don’t say things like that anymore. I have to go, I have something to take care of."
With that, Ivy Sherwood turned to leave.
"Watch out." Seth Scott suddenly grabbed Ivy Sherwood’s arm and pulled her back.
Seth Scott crouched down and picked up a seashell.
"This beach is covered in shells. You could cut your feet. Since you’re not wearing shoes, let me carry you." With that, Seth Scott swept Ivy Sherwood up in a princess carry.
The move left Miles Mercer completely stunned. "Hey! Who do you think you are? Put my sister down!"
Not far away, Quentin Blackwood watched Seth Scott carry Ivy Sherwood away. His pupils contracted, and he felt a sudden urge to go over and snap Seth Scott’s arms.
’That Seth Scott... he’s doing this on purpose!’
Seth Scott finally set Ivy Sherwood down. She said, "Seth, don’t ever do that again. I don’t have feelings for you. I only ever saw you as a friend."
"And now?" Seth Scott asked.
"If you keep this up, we can’t even be friends."
Ivy Sherwood turned and walked away. He started to follow, but Miles Mercer blocked his path. "Didn’t you hear my sister? She told you to stay away from her. If you dare touch her again, don’t blame me when I break your arm!"
Seth Scott looked at the man, wondering when Ivy had gotten a brother.
’But he really did love Ivy. His feelings for her were genuine.’
Seth Scott stood frozen, watching Ivy Sherwood’s retreating back until she disappeared from view.
He had just turned around when a fist slammed into his face. Caught off guard, Seth Scott was knocked to the ground.
He tried to get up, but a foot planted itself on his chest, pinning him down.
"Quentin Blackwood, what do you think you’re doing?!" Seth Scott glared up at the man pinning him down.
Quentin Blackwood’s eyes were bloodshot. A powerful aura radiating pure rage emanated from him, making one’s skin crawl.
The usually composed man was anything but calm now. His hand clamped down on Seth Scott’s wrist. With just a little more pressure, he could easily cripple it.
"Stay away from Ivy Sherwood," Quentin Blackwood warned.
"If there’s a next time, you won’t be able to afford the consequences."
Watching Quentin Blackwood walk away, Seth Scott scrambled up from the ground. That punch had been vicious. The corner of his mouth was split, and a bead of blood welled up.
He wiped at the blood. He didn’t understand how things had come to this. ’How did Ivy come to hate me?’
He had loved Ivy for so many years and considered himself an excellent catch.
But how could he possibly give up when he hadn’t won her over yet?
He would win Ivy over. He had to. Otherwise, this punch from Quentin Blackwood would have been for nothing!
Seth Scott left the resort soon after. Quentin Blackwood had once again put pressure on the Scott Group, suppressing it so thoroughly in such a short time that the company could barely breathe.
Although he had taken over the company’s operations, his father was still the chairman.
Moreover, the company’s shareholders were watching his every move, so he had no choice but to return.
With Seth Scott gone, Quentin Blackwood was relatively satisfied. He just hadn’t expected that no sooner had one rival left than another arrived: Elijah Hawthorne.
Elijah Hawthorne was nowhere near as easy to deal with as Seth Scott. The man was a reckless madman when provoked. More importantly, Quentin had no idea when Ivy had become so close with him.
Ivy Sherwood ended up seeing Elijah Hawthorne because Miles Mercer had gotten into a conflict with him.
Or rather, Elijah Hawthorne had deliberately come looking for trouble.
He knew Ivy Sherwood was at the resort and had already caught a glimpse of her face in secret. This only made him more intrigued.
’A face that beautiful, and Ivy Sherwood managed to hide it for so many years.’
’He’d been wondering what it was about this woman that so captivated Quentin Blackwood. Turns out, she really is a hidden treasure.’
A little more digging revealed that Ivy Sherwood had been getting very close to the Mercer family lately and had come to the resort with them.
Xavier and Connor Mercer were both relatively level-headed, but Miles had an explosive temper. So, Elijah Hawthorne used a little scheme to entrap him.
Ivy Sherwood only found out what happened when a bodyguard came to find her. "Miss, it’s terrible! Young Master Miles lost a bet to Elijah Hawthorne."
"What?" Ivy Sherwood was stunned. "A bet with who?"
’Elijah Hawthorne?’
Ivy Sherwood knew, of course, that Elijah Hawthorne loved to gamble, but his stakes were usually life-threatening. ’And my third brother lost... doesn’t that mean... ’
"Where are they?" Ivy Sherwood asked urgently.
The bodyguard gave her the location: the resort’s game room, over by the billiard hall.
Ivy Sherwood rushed over. As soon as she walked in, she saw Elijah Hawthorne sitting on a sofa.
His long legs were crossed, just as they had been the first time they met. He was sitting in the same spot, holding a cigar and exhaling clouds of smoke. One look was enough to know he wasn’t someone to be provoked.
"Brother!" Ivy Sherwood cried, rushing in from outside.
Elijah Hawthorne looked at Ivy’s face and found the situation even more amusing.
He set down his cigar. "Is this your sister? She’s quite a looker."
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
"Ivy, what are you doing here?" Miles didn’t want to drag her into this mess and wanted her to leave immediately.
Ivy Sherwood walked right in. "Mr. Hawthorne."
Elijah Hawthorne looked up, his movements fluid and elegant. "Do I know you?"
Ivy had no choice but to introduce herself. "My name is Ivy Sherwood. I’m not sure how my brother has offended you, Mr. Hawthorne, but could you please let him go?"
"Ivy Sherwood?" Elijah Hawthorne squinted at her. "Is that such a common name? So many people in the world have it?"
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
From the look in his eyes, Ivy Sherwood could tell he was doing this deliberately.
’Elijah Hawthorne is a cunning old fox. I’ve been showing my real face for days now; I don’t believe for a second he hasn’t found out.’
’Targeting Miles now is probably his way of luring me into a trap.’
"I’m the same Ivy Sherwood you know."
"The Ivy Sherwood I know doesn’t look like this."
He was clearly targeting her on purpose.
"Mr. Hawthorne, could I have a word with you in private?"
Elijah Hawthorne waved a hand, dismissing the others.
Miles was worried about Ivy. He said, "Little sis, don’t be afraid of him. The Mercer family isn’t scared of the likes of him."
"Brother, Mr. Hawthorne and I are... friends. Don’t worry. We’re just going to talk."
