Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 411: Quentin Blackwood Completely Lost His Mind

"What are you doing? Put me down!" Ivy Sherwood struggled, but Quentin Blackwood refused to stop.

Even if anyone outside saw them, one look at Quentin Blackwood’s grim, ashen face was enough to keep them from approaching.

Not far away, Miles Mercer had been enjoying a leisurely cup of tea. When he saw what was happening, he scrambled to his feet and chased after them. "Hey! Where are you taking my sister?"

Quentin Blackwood ignored him completely. He carried Ivy Sherwood all the way to his car, deposited her in the passenger seat, and quickly locked the doors.

Quentin Blackwood saw Miles Mercer catching up behind them and slammed his foot on the accelerator, peeling away.

She wasn’t sure if it was the smell in the car or the way Quentin Blackwood had held her, pressing slightly against her stomach, but a wave of nausea suddenly washed over her. She dry-heaved quietly, quickly covering her mouth, and missed the flicker of raw worry that crossed Quentin Blackwood’s face.

"What’s wrong?" Seeing that Ivy Sherwood looked unwell, Quentin Blackwood immediately pulled the car over.

Ivy Sherwood ignored his question and demanded, "What on earth do you think you’re doing!"

’She had no idea what he was playing at.’

’She wanted to give the jacket back to him. She didn’t want to wear anything of his.’

"Put it on!" Quentin Blackwood’s tone was harsh. His face was a grim, stony mask, making it clear he was in a foul mood.

"I’m not wearing your clothes."

Quentin Blackwood said, "Fine. I don’t mind you sitting in front of me in just a slip dress."

Ivy Sherwood, who had been about to throw the jacket at him, froze.

She put the jacket on. ’There was no way she was going to let him see any more of her.’

Quentin Blackwood hadn’t driven far; he’d only wanted to get away from anyone who might follow.

He had the car stopped and, worried Ivy Sherwood might be cold, turned on the heat. The two of them just sat there in silence.

"I don’t think we have anything left to say to each other." It was Ivy Sherwood who broke the silence.

Quentin Blackwood’s gaze was a mixture of obsessive longing and tight restraint. The veins on the back of his hands stood out in sharp relief.

’Grabbing Ivy Sherwood like that had been pure impulse. It wasn’t part of his plan, but he simply couldn’t stand by and watch other men look at her like that.’

’For the past two days, he’d been going insane with jealousy.’

’His actions had long outpaced his reason. He missed her with a maddening desperation.’

During this time, every day had felt like a year for Quentin Blackwood. He’d become someone else entirely—no longer rational, no longer calm.

’He’d originally thought he could slowly let her go, but he later realized his feelings for Ivy Sherwood were carved into his very bones, fused with his blood. There was no separating them.’

Quentin Blackwood was still investigating the matter with Old Master Sheridan, but he’d been a wreck lately. He’d never imagined one person could affect him to this degree.

’It turned out you really couldn’t live without someone.’

"So, you and Elijah Hawthorne have plenty to talk about, then?" His voice was dripping with jealousy.

"And in what capacity are you questioning me?" Ivy Sherwood’s eyes met his.

He looked exhausted. His eyes were bloodshot, and it was clear he hadn’t been doing well.

’Seeing him like this, Ivy’s heart still ached. But why was he in this state? His revenge was a success, wasn’t it? Shouldn’t he be happy? Why did he look like he was doing even worse than she was?’

"I just want to warn you. Elijah Hawthorne is a dangerous man."

"I don’t care. At least Elijah Hawthorne and I don’t have some so-called family feud between us. I knew from the start that he approached me with a motive. He didn’t pretend to like me while playing me for an absolute fool."

Quentin Blackwood’s lips parted, but he didn’t know how to defend himself.

After all, he had said so many cruel things back then to push her away.

"Quentin Blackwood, what right do you have to call anyone else dangerous? Aren’t you the most dangerous one of all? And do me a favor—stay out of my life from now on. Who I choose to be with is my business. It has nothing to do with you."

Ivy Sherwood tried the door, found it was unlocked, and immediately got out.

She tugged at the jacket she was wearing. "I’m sure President Blackwood won’t miss a single jacket. I’ll throw it out when I get back, so don’t expect me to return it."

Quentin Blackwood watched her walk away, her words echoing in his mind. ’It has nothing to do with you.’

’Ivy Sherwood had nothing to do with him now.’

A throbbing pain began to pound at his temples, so intense it felt hard to breathe.

His phone rang. It was Zane Linton.

"Speak."

"President Blackwood, just as you instructed, we’ve dealt with everyone who was trying to target Iris. We’ve also helped clear the path for them."

"Mm."

Iris was growing quickly, and naturally, many people didn’t want to see it succeed. There were quite a few trying to cause trouble, but before they could even get started, Quentin Blackwood had quietly snuffed out their efforts. As a result, Ivy Sherwood remained completely unaware.

Not long after he hung up with Zane Linton, another call came in. It was Julian Grant. "Quentin, you’re still in Lustre, right? Wanna grab a drink tonight? It’s been a while since we all hung out."

"I’m on my way."

"What?" Julian Grant thought he’d misheard. ’What time is it even? You’re starting to drink now?’

’If he starts now and drinks until tonight, how wasted is he going to get?’

...

She hadn’t gotten very far down the short road when Miles Mercer caught up to her. "Sis, did that Quentin Blackwood guy do anything to you?"

"No."

"You scared the hell out of me." Seeing the commotion earlier, Miles Mercer had thought Quentin Blackwood was trying to kidnap her.

"Bro, I’m just going to go back and rest."

"Okay, I’ll walk you back." Miles Mercer dutifully played the part of her protector.

Back in her room, Ivy Sherwood got a call from Edie, who excitedly told her they had just landed two huge contracts. It wasn’t even the new year, but they had already surpassed their performance goals for the entire next year.

However, there was one other potential client, also a company based in Lustre, who wanted to meet with Ivy Sherwood in person.

Ivy Sherwood said that was no problem and that she could meet with them tomorrow.

After hanging up with Edie, Ivy Sherwood took a shower and then got to work.

’Only work could make her forget him. Only work could stop her from thinking about that man.’

’I hope what I said today got through to him. I hope Quentin Blackwood really stays away from me now.’

As evening fell, Ivy Sherwood had dinner delivered to her room.

She only managed a few bites. Perhaps the baby was being considerate, as she didn’t feel too nauseous.

She had work tomorrow, so Ivy decided to get an early night, preparing to turn off the lights at nine.

After confirming her door was locked, Ivy Sherwood turned off the lights and got ready for bed.

However, just as she turned, she heard the BEEP of a key card unlocking her door.

Ivy Sherwood’s heart leaped into her throat. The room was pitch-black, and she only had a split second to register a tall silhouette against the light from the hallway before she was pulled into a powerful embrace.

The overwhelming stench of alcohol filled her lungs, giving her no room to think. Hot lips crashed down on hers, the man’s movements utterly savage. He was like a beast, suppressed for a millennium and finally unleashed from its cage, ready to tear its prey limb from limb and devour it whole.

He had completely lost his mind.
