Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 423: He Is My Boyfriend"Why are you here?" Nina Scott asked the woman at her door.
"If I hadn’t come, would you have forgotten you even have a mother?" Standing there were Nina’s mother, Mrs. Scott, and Yara Scott.
Mrs. Scott continued to scold her, "You didn’t come home all night. Were you out fooling around? And you even brought a man back with you!"
"Mom, don’t be angry. Your health isn’t good to begin with. Don’t ruin it over someone unimportant," Yara said, supporting Mrs. Scott.
Although Nina was her biological daughter, Mrs. Scott just couldn’t bring herself to like her. She found Nina coarse, rebellious, and impolite, having picked up all the worst habits of the poor. Yara, on the other hand, was different. Having been raised by Mrs. Scott’s side since she was a child, she was incredibly sweet and considerate.
"It’s not like you’ve ever treated me as your daughter, have you?" Nina retorted.
"You..." Mrs. Scott’s anger flared at the sight of Nina. "Why didn’t you go to the blind date I arranged for you? Do you have any idea who he is? You should be thanking your lucky stars that he’d even look at you, and you dared to stand him up!"
At the mention of this, Nina almost laughed in exasperation. They had indeed set her up on many blind dates, but they were all duds. This latest one, while wealthy, was thirty-nine years old—a good ten-plus years her senior.
Nina hadn’t gone to meet him, so the Scotts had come to corner her directly.
"So what if I didn’t go? Stop setting me up on dates. Why don’t you introduce someone to Yara?"
"Yara’s not in a hurry."
"She’s not in a hurry, so I must be? Am I that desperate to get married?"
"I don’t care. No matter what, you are going on that blind date tomorrow."
"I’m not going." Nina knew that if she didn’t put a stop to this, the Scotts wouldn’t let it go.
Nina said bluntly, "I have a boyfriend."
Then she looked at Miles Mercer, who was standing beside her. "He’s my boyfriend!"
Miles Mercer was floored. ’What?’
Mrs. Scott sized up the man. He wasn’t bad-looking—tall, handsome, and seemed quite young.
Mrs. Scott asked bluntly, "Do you have money? Our family has very high standards. You need at least a billion in family assets."
Miles Mercer was speechless.
’Just one billion? That’s it?’ His accounts held tens of billions.
Before he could say anything, Nina Scott cut in, "He doesn’t have money. He’s just a poor guy, but he loves me, and I like him. So you can forget about the blind date. I’m not going."
"He has no money and still dares to cling to you? Nina, would I, your own mother, ever harm you? Let me tell you, he’s just after our Scott family’s money and your status as a daughter of the Scott family!"
"If I’m a daughter of the Scott family, then what is she? You’ve never treated me as part of the Scott family at all, have you? You’re forcing me to marry because those men can bring you benefits. You don’t care whether I live or die. Otherwise, why don’t you make Yara marry one of them?"
Thinking about all this made Nina furious. She grabbed Miles Mercer and yelled at her mother, "Get out of my way!"
Then she unlocked the door, went inside, and shut it on Mrs. Scott and Yara, leaving them outside.
The sound of banging on the door came from outside. "Nina Scott, you get out here! How dare you! Who gave you permission to speak to me in that tone? Are you trying to kill me with anger?"
"If only you were half as obedient as Yara. How could I have given birth to a daughter like you? I wish I’d given birth to Yara instead."
"Mom, Nina will be so angry if she hears you say that. It doesn’t matter if I’m your biological daughter or not, I’ll always be your daughter. She just doesn’t understand your good intentions. She’s always been like this, never understanding you and always going against you. Even I think she’s gone too far."
Mrs. Scott looked at Yara with heartache. "Yara, you’re just too considerate. If only she were half as sensible as you."
Nina acted as if she heard nothing. She had heard those words far too many times over the years.
Yara always pretended to be the good girl, using moments of "persuasion" as an opportunity to speak ill of Nina. And Mrs. Scott, for her part, always fell for it.
Nina went to pour Miles Mercer a glass of water. "I didn’t mean to do that just now. I’m sorry, I just needed to use you as a human shield. She’s just so annoying."
Being hounded about blind dates every day, Nina felt like she was going crazy.
"Was it really not on purpose, or do you have designs on me?" Miles Mercer asked, looking at the woman before him.
Countless women had tried to climb into his bed before, but it seemed Nina was on a higher level than all of them—she had straight-up declared him her boyfriend.
"Me? Have designs on you?" Nina reacted as if she’d heard a joke.
’He can’t possibly think I staged this, can he? I don’t even like Miles Mercer. Besides, how could I have predicted they would show up here?’
"Has anyone ever told you that narcissism might be a medical condition? Maybe you should get that checked out at a hospital."
"It’s best if you don’t."
"Of course I don’t!"
Nina wanted nothing more than to kick the man out. If the Scotts weren’t still at the door, she never would have let him in in the first place!
After a while, the noise outside stopped. Nina checked and saw that the two of them had left.
Nina opened the door immediately. "You can go now. If you run into my mom downstairs, don’t talk to her."
Miles Mercer stood up. "See you again."
Nina was speechless.
’The narcissist is surprisingly polite,’ she thought. ’But who wants to ’see you again’? It would be better if we never saw each other again!’
After Miles Mercer left, Nina immediately called Ivy Sherwood. "Ivy, I’m so mad! You have no idea how narcissistic your brother is. He acts like he’s the only eligible man in the entire world. He..."
Nina vented about Miles for a full half-hour. Ivy just listened, unable to hold back her laughter.
She had never seen Nina get so worked up over a man before. Ivy said, "You two are what they call bickering lovers."
"Who’s bickering lovers with him? I just can’t stand him!"
When it came to Miles, Nina had a lot to say.
The two of them chatted for a while longer before saying good night to each other.
Ivy had slept in until almost noon that day, so she wasn’t very sleepy now. She picked up her phone and saw a message from Ayrester.
On her last trip to Elandra, Ivy had blended a perfume for the Princess, which the Princess loved. She was now inviting Ivy to be her guest again sometime.
Ivy thought she might indeed be going to Elandra soon. After all, the Mercer Family’s roots were in Elandra, and she might go back with her grandfather for a couple of days.
Although she wasn’t sure of her plans yet, she accepted the invitation.
...
The Blackwood Family had also been having a hard time recently. The Blackwood Group was still operating, but under pressure from the Mercer Family, things had become very difficult.
Anna Nash had returned home to recuperate. Her recovery was going relatively well, and she was now in her postpartum confinement period.
Her baby, however, had been born prematurely and was still in an incubator. The child was in a critical period, requiring careful monitoring every day.
Silas Blackwood was incredibly busy, running back and forth between the hospital and the company. Sylvia Blackwood also found the atmosphere at home too oppressive and had gone to stay with a friend. As for Mrs. Blackwood, she had returned to her maiden family’s home.
Essentially, Anna Nash was now the only one left in the house.
Caleb Blackwood had been out for a business dinner and came home dead drunk. A smile played on Anna Nash’s lips as she quickly went to support him. "Dad, why did you drink so much?"
She knew her chance had come.
Even though it was winter, she was dressed lightly in a small slip dress. The hemline barely covered her bottom, revealing her long, straight legs.
Having just given birth, her milk supply was still ample, making her full breasts quite prominent. Without a bra, they strained against the thin fabric.
