Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 436: New Year’s Eve DateQuentin hadn’t eaten all day, and his stomach was starting to hurt again.
He squatted on the ground, clutching his abdomen.
The sound of footsteps seemed to come from behind. Quentin stubbed out his cigarette, his voice hoarse. "I’m leaving now."
He thought it was one of the Mercer men, coming to make him leave.
He stood up, and when he saw the person behind him, he froze for a moment.
"Ivy?"
It was actually Ivy Sherwood!
He thought he must be seeing things. How could Ivy Sherwood possibly be here? Why would she come to see him?
Ivy Sherwood had seen him from her room. She didn’t know if Quentin’s stomach was really hurting again or if he was just pretending.
She knew she shouldn’t have come down, but her feet had moved faster than her brain.
"How long have you been here?"
"Not long. I just got here." In truth, he had been hanging around the area for the past two days.
"Have you eaten?" Ivy Sherwood asked.
He actually hadn’t eaten all day, but not wanting to worry Ivy, Quentin nodded. "I have."
"Good. Then I’ll just throw this out." Ivy Sherwood was holding something.
Only then did Quentin realize that Ivy had actually brought him food!
"Don’t throw it out! I haven’t eaten." He was already past the point of hunger.
Quentin was genuinely happy to see Ivy at a time like this. He had thought she wouldn’t come out.
Quentin grabbed Ivy’s hand directly. "I’m taking you somewhere!"
"Hey, I haven’t agreed to anything!"
Quentin paid her no mind, pulling Ivy into the car and starting the engine.
"Where are you taking me?" ’I must be crazy,’ Ivy thought, ’letting Quentin just pull me into the car like this.’
"You’ll know when we get there."
Quentin drove Ivy to the coastline. Only then did Ivy realize there were fireworks—a grand, spectacular display, like a sky full of stars.
There was even a countdown from New Year’s Eve to the New Year. A bell tolled nearby, and many people were cheering.
Although it wasn’t the New Year in Elandra, more and more people were celebrating the Lunar New Year now.
Ivy watched the fireworks blooming in the sky. They were truly beautiful.
Quentin turned his head to watch Ivy’s expression, a smile playing on his lips. ’I can’t believe I’m this lucky,’ he thought, ’to be crossing into the new year with Ivy.’
"Ivy Sherwood," he called out to her.
"Hmm?" Ivy pulled her gaze away from the fireworks.
The bell was already counting down: Five, four, three...
Quentin’s lips moved. He had originally wanted to say something, but he chose another action instead. In that instant, he pulled Ivy into his arms and pressed his lips to hers.
"You..." Ivy didn’t even have time to react.
Just then, the bell’s countdown reached one. It was now the new year.
It turned out she had actually spent the New Year with Quentin.
Quentin finally let her go. Ivy was already wearing plenty of layers, but Quentin still took his own jacket from the car, draped it over her shoulders, and wrapped her up in it.
"Happy New Year," Quentin said.
Ivy lowered her gaze, not daring to meet Quentin’s eyes.
Those eyes, usually so cold, were now incredibly deep. They were more brilliant than the fireworks, like a whirlpool that could suck a person in. Ivy was afraid that if she looked for even a second longer, she would fall back into that trap and never climb out.
"I’m so happy you came out."
"Don’t get the wrong idea. I just saw someone standing there and thought it was an eyesore. I was originally going to tell you to leave."
Quentin knew Ivy was lying. "You also brought me food."
"I was afraid you’d starve to death there and try to pin it on our family. Then we’d never be able to clear our names."
Quentin knew. Ivy had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. She said one thing but meant another. In reality, she was just worried about him.
The food Ivy had brought was already cold. Quentin opened it and saw it was quite a feast.
"This is all my favorite food."
Ivy certainly hadn’t picked out Quentin’s favorites. ’He’s such a shameless liar,’ she thought.
"It’s just leftovers. The Mercer family doesn’t have a dog, and it seemed like a waste to throw it out."
"From now on, I can take care of all your family’s leftovers."
"In your dreams. It’s already cold, don’t eat it." Ivy snatched it from Quentin’s hands.
’He already looked like his stomach was bothering him just now,’ she thought. ’Eating this cold food will probably make it worse.’
"It’s not cold. It’s fine to eat." Quentin thought Ivy wasn’t going to let him eat it.
"But I’m hungry too," Ivy said.
"Then I’ll take you to eat!" Quentin put the food Ivy brought him back in the car, saving it to eat the next day.
Quentin quickly took Ivy to a 24-hour restaurant and ordered a lot of dishes.
Ivy had already eaten a lot for New Year’s Eve dinner, so she didn’t really have much of an appetite now.
But Quentin kept putting food on her plate, and soon a small mountain had piled up in her bowl.
Ivy took a couple of bites. "I can’t eat anymore."
"That’s okay, I’ll help you finish it." With that, Quentin ate everything Ivy hadn’t finished.
Seeing this, Ivy’s eyes flickered. It was just like back when she and Quentin were still together.
"You’re just walking around with a face like that? Aren’t you afraid people will laugh at you?" Ivy said, looking at the still-unhealed bruises on Quentin’s face.
"That’s not important."
Quentin had never been one to care about his appearance. Besides, his brother-in-law had done this to him; there was no shame in it.
After they had eaten their fill, Ivy said, "It’s too late. I have to go back."
"I’ll drive you."
For Quentin, just being able to spend these few hours with Ivy was more than enough.
’I guess this counts as a date tonight,’ Quentin thought. ’Whether she thinks so or not, in my heart, it was a date.’
By the time Quentin’s car pulled up outside the Mercer estate, the woman in the passenger seat was already asleep, looking so peaceful.
The streetlight cast a glow on Ivy’s face. Her beautiful eyes were closed, and her face was as lovely as ever.
Quentin just watched her. He didn’t know when he would be able to see Ivy again. He took out his phone and secretly snapped several photos.
He scooted closer, his hand gently coming to rest on Ivy’s lower abdomen.
Even though Ivy said she had gotten rid of the baby, Quentin didn’t believe it. Knowing Ivy’s personality, there was no way she would want this child.
’I wonder if I can win her back through our child.’
He stayed close to her like that, feeling the presence of the little life through her clothes.
He hadn’t been feeling it for more than a moment when Ivy woke up. Seeing Quentin so close, she stirred. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing. I was just about to wake you up. We’re here."
"Oh." Ivy sat up. "I just couldn’t sleep tonight and came out for a walk. You were a driver and a bodyguard at most. Don’t get any wrong ideas."
"I haven’t. I know."
"I’m going back." Ivy reached for the door handle.
"Wait." Quentin grabbed the hand she was using to open the door.
"When I said we were over before, there was a reason. I was shot, and Old Master Sheridan saved me. He didn’t make it, and his dying wish was for me to marry Joy Sheridan."
A flash of surprise appeared in Ivy’s eyes. ’What is Quentin talking about?’
’Old Master Sheridan died because he was shot?’
