Joy Sheridan scrambled to the iron bars, her eyes filled with hope. When she finally saw the man’s face, her own lit up with it.

"Quentin, is that you, Quentin!"

Joy Sheridan was afraid to even blink, terrified that she was dreaming.

’Quentin is like a god, bathed in light, here to save me!’

"Quentin, I’ve missed you so much! They’ve all been bullying me. You have no idea how much I’ve suffered in here. You have to get revenge for me! Have them all arrested! I want them to feel what this is like!"

Joy Sheridan could no longer hold back and burst into tears, wailing as if to vent all her grievances.

However, Quentin Blackwood, on the other side of the iron gate, remained unmoved. His face was ice-cold, and his gaze was chillingly terrifying.

Joy Sheridan cried for a long while before realizing Quentin hadn’t moved at all. She wiped her tears away, a deeper panic setting in. "Quentin, what’s wrong? Hurry up and tell these people to let me out."

"They must not know that I’m your girlfriend—the future Mrs. Blackwood! Otherwise, they wouldn’t dare treat me like this!" Joy Sheridan’s tone was frantic.

"You’re not my girlfriend." Quentin Blackwood’s voice was almost cruel.

Joy Sheridan’s eyes reddened. She had lost so much weight during this time, and her clothes were filthy. Although there was a washroom, there was no way a pampered young woman like Miss Sheridan would ever wash her own clothes.

Her hair was a mess, too. She probably had no idea how terrible she looked.

"Quentin, what do you mean by that? Are you refusing to admit it? Right, I’m not your girlfriend, but I’m your future wife. Quentin, hurry and have them let me out. We should be discussing our wedding, right?"

Quentin Blackwood’s expression was indifferent, his gaze devoid of any warmth as he looked at Joy Sheridan.

Joy Sheridan finally panicked. "Quentin, what do you mean? Are you going to go against Grandfather’s dying wish?"

"When Grandfather was dying, you personally promised him you would marry me! He died because of you! How can you face his spirit in heaven? Aren’t you afraid my grandfather will come back to claim your life?"

Joy Sheridan was nearly hysterical, her eyes bloodshot. She looked like a vengeful spirit.

"Joy, how exactly did Old Master Sheridan die?" Quentin Blackwood asked directly.

Joy Sheridan’s eyelashes trembled, and shock flashed across her face, but she quickly recovered. "What do you mean? How did Grandfather die? Shouldn’t you know better than me? If he hadn’t taken that bullet for you, how could he have died? Quentin, how dare you even ask me that now!"

Joy Sheridan’s confidence evaporated. Locked away in here, she had no idea what was happening outside or what Quentin could have possibly found.

’But there’s no way they could have found that shareholder. Our collaboration was seamless; we didn’t leave a single trace.’

"Joy, I’ll give you one more chance. Did you arrange the shooting? Are you connected to your grandfather’s death?" Quentin’s gaze was soul-piercing, and his current appearance was terrifying.

Joy Sheridan’s heart leaped in alarm. ’How could Quentin have possibly guessed in that direction?’

"Quentin, what nonsense are you talking about? That was my grandfather, my only family in the world! He was so good to me, how could I possibly harm him? Did someone tell you something? Don’t listen to those rumors! They’re just slandering me! I would never hurt my own grandfather!"

Joy Sheridan tried desperately to convince Quentin, but she had no idea if he would believe her. ’Quentin actually suspects me. What did he find out?’

’I can’t admit to this. If I do, Quentin will abandon me without a second thought, and I’ll never get another chance to marry him.’

’I was so close to marrying him. I even got him to break up with Ivy Sherwood. I absolutely cannot fail at the final hurdle.’

"He already confessed. Are you still going to deny it?" Quentin said flatly.

"Who is ’he’?" Joy Sheridan was utterly shocked.

’Impossible. There’s no way Quentin could have found out that much.’

Quentin Blackwood said a name—the shareholder’s name.

Joy Sheridan completely panicked. "That’s absolutely impossible."

’How could he have confessed? He clearly promised me he wouldn’t.’

Joy Sheridan looked at Quentin and reached out, trying to push her hand through the iron bars to grab his. But before she could touch him, Zane Linton blocked her.

Zane Linton spoke directly. "Miss Sheridan, after our investigation, it is a fact that Mr. Farmer is suspected of instigating murder. On the day of the incident, you asked President Sheridan to drive President Blackwood home, isn’t that right?"

"I didn’t!" Although Joy Sheridan remembered it very clearly, she still denied it.

"I have a recording here that might help you remember." Zane Linton played the recording directly. It wasn’t perfectly clear, but what Joy Sheridan had said was still audible.

"No, that’s not it! I was just being nice and wanted Grandfather to take you home, Quentin! I was afraid you had too much to drink that night, I had no other motive! He’s my own grandfather, how could I have someone kill him? Quentin, believe me! Let me explain!"

"Is it an explanation or just you making excuses? Joy, you killed the person who loved you most in this world, and you still don’t dare to admit it."

When a person goes mad, they’re truly capable of anything.

Did Joy Sheridan truly feel no regret? Did she really not think she had made the most terrible mistake?

"I didn’t... I didn’t..." No matter what Quentin asked, Joy Sheridan flatly denied it.

’I absolutely cannot admit it. I can’t.’

"President Blackwood, her psychological defenses haven’t collapsed yet, but judging by her guilty expression just now, she’s inextricably linked to this," Zane Linton said quietly into Quentin’s ear.

Quentin looked at the woman, feeling nothing but disgust.

"You can refuse to admit it, but no one is going to save you from here. If you tell the truth, I might let you out. If you say nothing, you’ll be locked up here for the rest of your life. Think about it carefully."

"This is illegal imprisonment! I can sue!" Fear was written all over Joy Sheridan’s face.

At that, Zane Linton said, "Miss Sheridan, since you can’t even get out, how exactly do you plan to sue? Does anyone in this world even remember you? Is anyone willing to offend the Mercer Family for you? The one person who would have done anything for you is no longer in this world."

Seeing Joy Sheridan’s devastated expression, Zane continued, "Actually, it’s not so bad in here. You have food and a place to live, Miss Sheridan."

"It’s just that you’ll never see the sun again. You’ll never get out. You’ll be like a rat living in a sewer. No one will remember you. Your life and death will mean nothing to the world. You’ll just live like an idiot every day, unable to do a single thing."
