Chapter 93: The Day Before Chapter One

Nobody reached for the note.

It rested silently atop the coffee table beside the shattered cassette player, its brittle edges slowly curling inward as though decades had passed in the span of a heartbeat.

Kai couldn’t take his eyes off the six words.

"The man."

Kai stepped closer.

"I didn’t order anything."

The delivery driver frowned.

"That’s strange."

He turned the box over, reading the label again.

Silence swallowed the hallway.

The driver’s expression emptied.

His pupils slowly dilated until almost nothing remained but black.

He held the package out toward Kai.

The driver turned around.

He simply stared at the box.
