Chapter 409 - 369: Blood God Undying

The Blood God Child. Within the Blood Spirit Scripture, this is one of only two Great Attacking Techniques explicitly recorded, aside from the fundamental Cultivation Skill itself.

This technique doesn’t involve shapeshifting or the refinement of a physical form.

Instead, it specializes in extracting a wisp of Innate Killing Qi—one of Supreme Yin, utmost filth, absolute evil, and extreme violence—from the very source of the Blood Sea.

This qi is then fused with the caster’s own Essence, Blood, and Divine Thought to condense a Blood Shadow that is both illusory and substantial, shifting without pattern.

This Blood Shadow is formless and intangible. Only when it strikes does it reveal itself as a streak of crimson Flowing Light, as fast as a Netherworld Flash Thought, as swift as a surging Blood Sea tide.

It is of a Supreme Yin and utterly defiled nature, specifically countering the Clear Spirit aspect of all Ten Thousand Laws.

When used against a foe, it need only lunge. Before this Blood Shadow, it matters not if one is protected by the golden light of the Buddhist Sect, the Clear Profound Gang Qi of the Taoist School, the grim Demon Armor of the Demon Dao, or even painstakingly-forged Magical Treasures and Spiritual Artifacts—all are like hot water poured on snow, dissolving upon contact.

When the Blood Shadow makes contact with a body, it harms no flesh and breaks no bones. It exclusively devours the Essence, Blood, and Yang Qi that constitute a creature’s life force. In an instant, it can drain a being brimming with vitality, leaving behind nothing but a withered husk.

It was incomparably potent, incomparably strange, and incomparably terrifying.

Some Cultivators who had mastered the Blood Spirit Scripture to an extremely high Realm could unleash tens of thousands of Blood God Children with but a single thought, sending them screaming forth.

By the window of the quiet room, the Nether Spring Taoist leaned indolently, a thread of crimson blood coiling around his fingertip. Within it, countless minuscule, tormented faces seemed to struggle, fading in and out of view.

His blood-red eyes narrowed as he savored the intimate, seamless connection he shared with the source of the Blood Sea. The corners of his lips twisted into a cold, amused smirk.

’I haven’t been in this world for long. My source may be pure, but my reserves are shallow. The absolute most I can condense and control is ninety-nine Blood God Children... That’s my limit.’

He muttered to himself, and the thread of blood at his fingertip abruptly burrowed back beneath his skin.

’Fortunately, however, I have my original body’s unfathomably profound Magic Technique Panel.’

’And my Blood Sea Dao is not the least bit picky about its food...’

His gaze drifted out the window to the cerulean sea and sky, but his eyes reflected a ghastly illusion: a mountain of corpses in a sea of blood.

’Directly messaging my original body and having the Great Sun Purple Extreme True Monarch cross realms to take Xuan Ming from the Dragon Palace would certainly be quick and easy. Under the True Monarch’s immense power, the Seven Stars Arching Moon Sea and Bixuan Palace are nothing more than a small puddle.’

But the thought had barely crossed Nether Spring’s mind before he dismissed it.

"Too wasteful," he sneered. "My original body is pursuing the Profound Yellow Dao Certification Method."

"Proving the Dao requires not only an accumulation of Cultivation but also a compatible Merit Fruit to attract the favor of the corresponding Fruit Position."

He slowly stood up straight. His crimson Daoist Robe stirred, though there was no wind, and a viscous, foul, yet supremely majestic and murderous Blood Evil Dao Rhyme began to emanate from him.

"The Blood Sea Dao is the supreme path of slaughter in all of Heaven and Earth! It is the most ferocious, the most violent!"

"To use this Dao to attract the gaze of the Blood Sea Fruit Position, which hangs high above the river of time, ordinary cultivation and accumulation are simply not enough."

"One must commit slaughter on an unprecedented scale, condensing a monstrous Evil Qi from it. Only by using endless carnage as kindling to ignite the flames of the Blood Sea Dao can one hope to move the Fruit Position and vie for that sliver of a chance to attain the Dao!"

His gaze sharpened, turning toward the distant horizon where sea met sky.

There, in a place even more distant, more chaotic, and more bloody than Bixuan Palace, the Alien Races held their territory.

’This vast Overseas is teeming with Alien Races, locked in endless conflict. For the Central Earth Human Race, it’s a treacherous land. But for my Blood Sea Dharma Body...’

The wicked smile on Nether Spring’s face grew wild and savage.

"...it’s a supreme, tailor-made paradise for accumulating the karma of slaughter!"

’Those Alien Races are not my people. Their lifeblood and Divine Souls are the perfect Resources to strengthen my Blood Sea Dao Practice.’

’Rather than just rushing in to save someone and leaving... I should seize this golden opportunity to do a little ’reaping’!’

Tapping his smooth chin, the last trace of hesitation in Nether Spring’s eyes vanished, replaced by a pure, crimson frost.

Before he could even finish his thought, his entire body dissolved with a soft POP, transforming into a dense, viscous, roiling cloud of blood-red mist.

The blood mist, seeming to possess a life of its own, instantly passed through the window frame and merged tracelessly into the ocean breeze.

...

「The Bone-Eroding Dark Sea, seventy thousand li northwest of Bixuan Palace.」

The area was perennially shrouded in a grayish-green Poisonous Miasma that exuded a faint, cloying scent of sweetness and rot.

The seawater was murky and viscous, an unsettling shade of inky green. Beneath the surface, there were no signs of ordinary fish or shrimp.

There were only bizarrely shaped deep-sea venomous insects and mutated Sea Beasts with fearsome carapaces and sharp mouthparts, all devouring one another.

Scattered across the surface of the sea were bizarre "islands" formed from a conglomerate of pale bones, rotting seaweed, and some unknown secretion.

This was the domain of a notoriously vicious oceanic Alien Race—the Tong Puppets.

Members of this race were roughly humanoid but taller and more slender. Their grayish-green skin was covered in a slick mucus and horny, tumor-like protrusions.

Their skulls were long and narrow, their mouths split all the way to their ears and filled with fine, sharp, backward-pointing teeth. Their eyes had atrophied, replaced by several pairs of compound eyes on their foreheads that could rotate a full 360 degrees, all of which glinted with a cruel, cunning light.

They cultivated no Primordial Spirit and forged no Magical Treasures. Instead, they focused solely on breeding and commanding various Sea Puppets, which they nourished with their own Essence, Blood, and resentment.

These Sea Puppets ranged in size from gnats to giant pythons, their forms bizarre and varied, all possessing potent venom and the ability to corrode bone and devour souls.

The Puppet Race used these creatures to fight, hunt, and even build their nests. In their wake, all life was extinguished, leaving only pale skeletons picked clean by their puppet-insects.

The Puppet Race was innately brutal and avaricious, viewing all other living beings as either prey or feed for their insects. They frequently launched unprovoked attacks on passing Cultivators and merchant caravans, and even encroached upon the territories of other Alien Races.

In these waters, they were a plague whose very name inspired terror, their karmic debt from slaughter so immense and their accumulated resentment so thick it was almost tangible.

At this moment, deep within the Bone-Eroding Dark Sea, tens of thousands of Tong Puppets were conducting a bloody "Harvest Festival" inside a hideous nest built from the skulls of countless giant Sea Beasts.

The altar was heaped with the remains of various creatures plundered in recent raids. Countless Sea Puppets writhed in and out of the carnage, making a teeth-grating SKITTERING sound.

The Tong Puppets surrounded the altar, performing a twisted, bizarre dance and letting out hoarse, piercing howls. A dense aura of blood, venomous hatred, and madness surged skyward, staining the grayish-green Poisonous Miasma above a shade of dark red.

Just then, at the edge of the nest, an unremarkable cloud of grayish-green sea mist quietly drifted in, blending perfectly with its surroundings.

Within the mist, a pair of crimson pupils slowly opened, coldly observing the bloody carnival.

"It truly is... a paradise."

Nether Spring’s whisper echoed from within the mist, filled with undisguised satisfaction and killing intent.

"Their aura is foul and violent, they are steeped in the karma of slaughter, and they possess countless Resentful Souls... This is exactly the kind of ’main course’ that suits the appetite of my Blood Sea."

"Slaughtering this type of Alien Race will allow me to use their immense karmic debt and resentment to greatly nourish and strengthen my Blood Sea Dao Practice! Wonderful!"

He hid himself no longer.

"Heh heh... Let’s start with all of you. You will be the first generous gift offered to my path of the Blood Sea Dao!"

His chuckle had not yet faded when the blood mist that was Nether Spring suddenly swelled and expanded!

In the blink of an eye, it covered a vast area at the nest’s entrance.

The blood mist churned, and from within arose the sound of countless shrill howls that could freeze one’s very Divine Soul, mingling with the sloshing of viscous, bloody waves!

The next moment—

"WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH—!!!"

A piercing shriek, like Ten Thousand Ghosts wailing in unison, erupted from the blood mist as countless things shot through the air!

They were crimson Blood Shadows!

There were so many that they numbered nearly a hundred at a glance!

They resembled human figures but were illusory and indistinct, faster than lightning. Their trajectories were cunning and bizarre, and they radiated a terrifying Dao Rhyme of Supreme Yin and utter defilement that devoured all living things!

These were precisely the ninety-nine Blood God Children that Nether Spring had summoned, pushing himself to his current limit!

The moment they appeared, the Blood God Children descended like starving ghosts upon their prey, lunging without hesitation at the nearest members of the Puppet Race and the Sea Puppets they controlled!

"SKREEE—!"

A Tong Puppet warrior, over ten feet tall and brandishing a bone blade, was the first to be struck.

It didn’t even have time to see its attacker. It felt a blast of Yin Wind, and the protective, grayish-green toxic glow from its symbiotic insects dimmed and dissolved as if it were made of paper.

Then, a sucking force so cold it pierced its very soul enveloped its entire body!

In a single breath!

This Tong Puppet warrior, whose power was comparable to a cultivator at Qi Refining Great Perfection, transformed from a savage beast into a pale skeleton loosely draped in skin. With a CRACK, it collapsed into a heap on the ground.

Even its bonded Sea Puppet, nurtured within its body, could not escape.

The instant the Blood God Child swept past, it was drained of all venom and vitality, turning to dust.

And that was only the beginning.

Nearly a hundred Blood God Children descended upon the Puppet Race’s nest like sparks hitting oil, igniting a storm of destruction!

They ignored the Poisonous Miasma spewed by the Puppet Race, the swarms of insects they commanded, and the ghastly light of their bone blades.

Before the Blood God Children’s inherent ability to bypass all Ten Thousand Laws and devour life, every form of attack and defense was utterly futile.

Wherever the Blood Shadows passed, a Yin Wind swept through.

They left behind only a carpet of rapidly desiccating bones and insect carcasses that crumbled to dust.

The great army of Sea Puppets, the pride of the Puppet Race, was a complete joke before the Blood God Children.

The smaller venomous puppets turned to ash in droves as the Blood Shadows swept past, while the larger, ferocious war-puppets lasted only a breath or two longer before being sucked dry and left as empty husks.

Inside the nest, the festival instantly became a Purgatory.

Terrified screeches, desperate curses, and the struggles of the dying intertwined with the piercing shrieks of the darting Blood God Children and the cracking of collapsing skeletons.

The cloyingly thick miasma of Essence and Blood, venomous death energy, and insectoid toxins was greedily devoured and subjected to Refinement by the nearly hundred ravenous Blood God Children.

Through an invisible link, this energy was continuously funneled back to Nether Spring’s true body and into the illusory Blood Sea materializing behind him, which grew ever more vast and boundless.

Nether Spring’s true form remained hidden within the blood mist, but he could clearly feel his Blood Sea Dao Practice soaring at an unprecedented rate!

The boundless karmic debt of slaughter and the resentment accumulated by the Puppet Race were a lethal poison that any ordinary Cultivator would avoid at all costs.

But for the Blood Sea Dao, it was the richest of supplements!

Meanwhile, in the corner of his vision, on the floating Magic Technique Panel, the experience bar for the Blood God Child Divine Technique was skyrocketing at a frantic, unprecedented pace!

The slaughter continued. The Blood God Children were unstoppable, and the Puppet Race’s nest was visibly "emptying" out.

In the next instant, the moment the progress bar shattered some invisible barrier—

The panel flashed!

[Magic Technique update complete. This is a minor version update. The following adjustments have been made to the technique’s effects:]

[Blood God Undying: Upon death, a Blood God Child can be instantly reborn on the spot. Rebirth limit: three times.]

A terrifying glint erupted in Nether Spring’s blood-red eyes!

"Hahaha! Excellent! What an excellent Blood God Undying!"

He couldn’t help but roar with laughter, a sound filled with both glee and an even deeper killing intent.

"With this... my efficiency will increase severalfold!"

With a single thought, the attacking army of Blood God Children became even more fearless and suicidal in their assault.

For even if they were struck down, they would quickly re-form from the roiling blood mist and charge once more!

And as Nether Spring’s Cultivation grew, the Blood Sea behind him boiled and surged, and more sinister, terrifying Blood Shadows, roiling with Evil Qi, began to emerge from its depths.
