Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Ian Sterling’s Low Status
Lynn Winslow rested against his chest, watching the two girls being escorted away. Raising her arm, she wrapped it around Ian Sterling’s neck.
"Carry me back to the room. I’m so sleepy. I didn’t sleep enough this afternoon, and now I’m dizzy. I can hardly keep my eyes open," she mumbled. Her little mouth didn’t stop until Ian Sterling carried her back to the room and laid her on the bed.
She rambled about everything under the sun, bringing up various people and places. Among them was the girl who worked in interior design, as well as Zane Lancaster over in Creston.
"I miss her so much. I haven’t seen her in ages. Even when Amberly Bay was being renovated, she only gave me a design draft," she murmured. "It was a waste being so close to her; she doesn’t even contact me anymore. And that bastard Zane Lancaster, holding a grudge for so long. No wonder his dad scolds him. You’re still the best. Obedient, clingy, with a great body and a handsome face." Lynn Winslow gazed blearily at Ian Sterling as he sat beside her, wiping her hands. Her eyes brimmed with affection.
Her eyes were red, wet, and sore. The moment she closed them, a tear slipped from the corner of her eye and vanished into her hair.
"I love you so much," she whispered. "But I also feel so guilty. I’m always causing you to get hurt."
Ian Sterling’s hand paused. He lifted his gaze to her aggrieved face.
"You don’t have anything to feel guilty about. I know there’s a reason for everything," he said softly. "Getting hurt just means I was useless. I love you too. I love you even more than you love me." He set the towel aside and leaned over her. His long, narrow eyes half-closed as he murmured, "Don’t ever leave me."
Lynn Winslow remembered none of this, let alone when Chloe Clayton and Flora Fairfax had left her room.
Ian Sterling woke up very early. He sat imposingly on the sofa in the living room outside the guest rooms, his face dark as he stared at the two doors.
When Chloe Clayton woke up, she stared at the unfamiliar room in a daze. After a moment, she finally recalled that this was Lynn’s home. Her brother had called her multiple times and scolded her on WhatsApp for staying out all night, which instantly shocked her completely awake.
She hurriedly washed up and stepped out, planning to wake Flora Fairfax. To her surprise, the moment she walked out the door, she ran into Ian Sterling, who was glaring at her as if she were his sworn enemy.
"Could you have a little self-awareness? Do you not know she has a boyfriend?"
Chloe Clayton jumped in fright. Frowning at his words, she asked in confusion, "What does that have to do with us coming over to hang out with her?"
"You disturbed us," Ian Sterling sneered. "Don’t come over anymore. If you want to hang out, do it outside. I can provide a venue and reimburse your expenses, but don’t come to my home."
Flora Fairfax had also woken up. Opening her door just in time to hear Ian’s decree, the two girls stood frozen in the doorways like students being punished.
Chloe Clayton was, after all, the arrogant heiress from Quartos. Recovering faster than Flora Fairfax, she tilted her chin up and challenged him, "What do you mean ’your home’? This is Lynn’s home."
Ian Sterling stood up, looking down at the two of them. The icy aura he exuded made them both shiver, despite the sweltering summer heat.
"Fine. Let’s see if you can ever get her to come out with you again," he said, narrowing his eyes. He turned and retreated to the master bedroom, leaving the two girls filled with apprehension.
Chloe Clayton and Flora Fairfax exchanged a glance, both seeing the utter speechlessness in each other’s eyes. They headed downstairs together, whispering as they walked.
"People outside always say he has a terrible personality. I didn’t expect it to be true."
"I know, right? His older brother and sister have such great personalities. Why is he like this? Did Mrs. Sterling hold back all her bad temper when giving birth to his siblings, only to dump it all on Ian Sterling?"
"Makes sense. I think so too."
"I don’t want to leave. I want to see Lynn."
"Me neither. But didn’t you hear what he just said? If we don’t leave, he won’t let Lynn see us anymore."
"Do you really think Lynn listens to him? His status in this household must be pretty low."
"..."
Although they voiced their doubts, their feet never stopped moving. When they ran into Mrs. Sterling at the front door, she urged them to stay for breakfast. The two girls politely declined, their pace quickening as they hurried away.
When Ian Sterling returned to the bedroom, Lynn Winslow was still fast asleep, completely unaware that her two good friends had just been chased off by a few words from him.
He lay down beside her, pulling her into his arms with a sigh, thinking, "Why isn’t she awake yet? I miss her so much."
Lynn Winslow didn’t grant his wish. She slept straight through until one in the afternoon.
Ian Sterling was just getting ready for his afternoon nap. Seeing her stir, he complained bitterly, "Why are you only waking up now?"
Lynn Winslow blinked and mumbled, "Sleepy."
"Hug me, hug me," Ian Sterling said, pursing his lips and demanding she hug him back.
Lynn Winslow couldn’t handle his aggrieved, whiny tone. She reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist. As soon as she pressed against him, she noticed something was off.
"Why are you..."
Ian rubbed against her, whining, "I missed you."
"..." Lynn tried to pull her arms back and get away, but before she could, Ian yanked her back and pinned her beneath him.
"You don’t feel sorry for me," he pouted.
"I don’t feel sorry for you? Have you forgotten what happened last time at the hotel—"
Before she could finish, Ian interrupted her, playing the shameless rogue. "That time was an accident. I definitely won’t be like that this time."
"I don’t believe you." Lynn Winslow wasn’t buying his nonsense.
How did that old Veridia saying go again? If a man’s word could be trusted, pigs could fly. Something like that.
Pressing her hands against his chest, Lynn refused vehemently, "Get up! You’re crushing me. Do you have any idea how heavy you are?"
Ian Sterling went completely limp, letting his entire body weight press down on her. With such a tall, muscular man pinning her down, Lynn felt like she couldn’t even breathe.
"I don’t know, why don’t you weigh me?" Ian stubbornly refused to budge.
Lynn bit her lip, amused by his shamelessness. Suppressing a smile, she retorted, "How am I supposed to weigh you if you don’t get up?"
"I’ll press down on you, and you can weigh me." Brazenly burying his face in the crook of her neck, Ian let out a satisfied sigh.
"Lynn, you’re so soft."
Lynn’s cheeks flushed red at his teasing. Gritting her teeth, she pinched the tip of his ear and threatened fiercely, "I’m going to get mad. If you really have nowhere else to burn off that energy, the room next to Kiki’s is a home gym."
Ian pretended not to hear her and continued to nuzzle against her. Left with no choice, Lynn said, "Fine, don’t get up. I’ll just call Mr. Sterling later and have him send you over to Mr. Sterling’s place tomorrow for an extra month of training."
"..." Ian scrambled up nimbly. As he rose, he grumbled, "You were just humoring me. Last night you said you loved me, and now you’re bullying me."
Lynn didn’t remember saying any such thing. She sat up, threw herself onto his back, and asked, "When did I say I loved you?"
"Last night, when you were drunk."
"I was tricking you. I don’t love you at all." Lynn tilted her head and stared at his face. Sure enough, the moment the words left her mouth, Ian’s expression dimmed.
Unable to bear teasing him any further, Lynn rubbed his ear and cheek, saying softly, "I wasn’t tricking you. I love you. I love you the most."
"I don’t believe you anymore," Ian snorted softly.
