Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Let’s See Who Screams Louder
Lynn Winslow stood in the doorway, raising a hand to wave at the two of them. "Hi," she greeted. "Long time no see."
The moment Ian Sterling heard that familiar voice, he shot upright, staring in disbelief at the person in the doorway.
Zachary Quincy, ever the hothead, stood up and angrily started for the door, only to be blocked by Jasper Jennings.
"Why are you stopping me? I’ve never hit a woman before, but today I’ll make an exception!"
"Can you just look at Finn’s face? Does that look like someone who’s not in love anymore? You’re going to go beat up Lynn Winslow? Aren’t you afraid Finn will flip out on you?" Jasper Jennings persuaded, jerking his chin toward Ian Sterling, urging him to look.
Zachary Quincy took one look and rolled his eyes so hard he could see heaven. It was too much to watch.
Lynn Winslow, unbothered by their hostility, extended a slender finger and pointed at the man still on the sofa. "I’m looking for him."
Ian Sterling’s brow furrowed. He turned his face away and snapped, "What are you doing here?"
Lynn Winslow walked over, each step full of seductive charm. She skirted around Zachary Quincy, who was still glaring at her fiercely, and sat down next to Ian Sterling. In a sweet voice, she said, "I just got back in town. I heard this place was fun, and when I found out you were here, I came to say hi. I’m not interrupting, am I?"
Ian Sterling pulled a pretty girl standing nearby into his arms, holding her in front of him. With the corner of his eye slightly raised, he looked at Lynn Winslow. "You are."
Lynn Winslow blinked, her eyes curving into a smile. "Oh, that’s okay. I can keep you company along with her. I don’t mind."
Ian Sterling shot to his feet, looking down at Lynn Winslow in disbelief. "Say that again?"
Lynn Winslow crossed her legs, propped her chin on one hand, and looked straight at him, repeating without a change in expression, "I said, I can keep you company along with her."
Ian Sterling suddenly scoffed. He pulled the pretty girl up, placing a hand on her waist, and said sarcastically, "I wouldn’t dare have Miss Winslow keep me company. Having Sienna is more than enough for me."
’My name is Norton...’ Sienna thought.
But she didn’t dare say it. She could also see that Ian Sterling was deliberately trying to provoke the dazzlingly flamboyant woman in front of them. Having finally gotten close to the precious young master of the Sterling family, she happily pressed herself against him, wrapping her arms around his waist. "Finn," she cooed, "let’s go. Sienna has already booked a room at the hotel next door."
Ian Sterling glanced at Lynn Winslow, then left with his arm around Sienna.
Lynn Winslow took a moment to soothe the sour feeling rising in her chest. Of course she knew Ian was doing this on purpose to spite her; even if he were really looking for someone, he wouldn’t just grab a random girl. Still, she couldn’t control the ache in her heart.
Seeing them leave, Zachary Quincy sneered, "Did you really think he couldn’t live without you? Without you, there’s still Mia Rhodes, and countless other girls lined up waiting. He forgot about you a long time ago."
Lynn Winslow shot him a look. As she stood up, she let out a sudden laugh, twisting the knife gently. "Has Mr. Quincy managed to win over Esther Abbott yet?"
"You—!" As expected, Zachary Quincy was infuriated. He was about to step forward when Jasper Jennings blocked him again.
Jasper Jennings warned Lynn Winslow coldly, "Miss Winslow, I don’t know what you’re planning by coming back, but I suggest you stay far away from Finn. Otherwise, the Sterling Family and the rest of us won’t let you off easy."
Lynn Winslow gave a slight, dismissive smile and turned to chase after Ian Sterling, leaving behind an apoplectic Zachary Quincy and Jasper Jennings, who was staring at her like a viper.
Ian Sterling walked Sienna to the bar’s entrance. He was about to let go but feared Lynn Winslow would catch up, so he kept his hand on Sienna’s waist.
Sienna was smiling triumphantly. When she saw some acquaintances looking over, she returned their gazes with a smug smirk.
Sure enough, Lynn Winslow quickly caught up, blocking Ian Sterling’s path with an outstretched arm.
"Ian Sterling! You can’t do this with someone else just to make me angry!"
Ian Sterling, who had already managed to calm his racing heart, looked at her with a smirk.
"What I do with other people is none of Miss Winslow’s business."
Lynn Winslow bit her lip and took a step forward, her tone softening. "Ian Sterling, can we just talk, please?"
Ian Sterling refused outright. "I have nothing to talk to you about. Lynn Winslow, I told you back then, once we broke up, I would never get back together with you. You were the one who said you had no regrets."
Lynn Winslow cursed the author in her head, but her expression was aggrieved. "There was a reason back then. I just couldn’t tell you."
Ian Sterling just assumed she was making excuses and left with Sienna in his arms.
Lynn Winslow caught up again, standing stubbornly behind him. "Ian Sterling, if you dare go to a hotel with her tonight, I’ll go grab a random guy off the street and do the same! I’ll even get the room right next to yours, and we’ll see who’s louder!"
Hearing this, Ian Sterling’s steps faltered for a moment before he tossed back a single, dismissive word: "Whatever."
Lynn Winslow’s lip trembled, her eyes turning red. She watched his retreating back, aggrieved. A bodyguard quickly stepped forward to comfort her. "Miss, please don’t be sad. He’s definitely just trying to make you angry."
"You," she ordered, "go follow him. Whichever hotel he goes to, you book every single room in it!"
’If Mr. Sterling takes the woman to his own house, am I supposed to buy his house, too?’ the designated bodyguard wondered.
But seeing his miss’s pitiful expression, he could only agree repeatedly. "Yes, yes, of course. I’ll go right now."
The other bodyguards looked at him with sympathetic gazes. He shot them a glare and ran off after Ian Sterling.
Ian Sterling dragged Sienna farther away. He turned back, wanting to see Lynn Winslow, but instead saw the bodyguard who had just been beside her.
His face hardened. He stood in front of the bodyguard and warned, "Get lost."
The bodyguard lowered his eyes and didn’t move an inch. Ian Sterling was so angry he laughed, putting his hands on his hips and pacing a few steps.
His own bodyguards caught up at the right moment. Seeing their Finn was beyond furious, they knew what to do without being told and quickly dragged Lynn Winslow’s bodyguard away.
As they walked, one whispered a suggestion, "Just go back. Or stay somewhere else for the night. You can give your miss any old excuse tomorrow."
Seeing that no one was around, Sienna boldly stepped forward to take Ian Sterling’s arm, but he violently shook her off.
"What are you doing?" His tone was extremely harsh.
Sienna said innocently, "Finn, didn’t you bring me out here? I thought you wanted to..."
Ian Sterling looked at her with disgust, finally taking his phone out of his pocket. "Scan the code, take the money, and get out of here."
