Chapter 2004: Chapter 2001: Disguise Technique
In the Netherworld, the hierarchy is strict and positions are high; a high rank means high status. Like that Ghost Wolf Yaksha just now, he might not hold any office, but his rank is high enough that even Ghost Messengers wouldn’t dare provoke him.
The two Ghost Messengers mistook Lin Tian and his companions for high-ranking superiors, so even if they had doubts in their hearts, they didn’t dare voice them. They didn’t even hesitate for long before quickly responding, "What the lord said is correct, crossing over that mountain ridge, it’s only an hour’s journey to the Ghost Gate."
An hour meant two hours; if walking, that’s not very far. However, if it’s the pace of a fast horse, then it’s a bit farther.
Lin Tian frowned, unsure of what transportation was available in the Netherworld. Seeing Lin Tian frown, the two Ghost Messengers thought they had angered an important person, fearfully prostrating themselves on the ground, not daring to meet Lin Tian’s gaze.
"Raise your heads and answer me, have you ever heard of Ying Gou in the Netherworld?" Lin Tian looked down at the two Ghost Messengers, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
The Ghost Messengers trembled as they got up, carefully answering, "In response to the lord, we... haven’t heard of it."
"Hmm?" Lin Tian coldly hummed, looking very dissatisfied.
The Ghost Messengers were so scared they kept kowtowing, saying while kowtowing, "My lord, please understand, we are just low-level Ghost Messengers, we don’t know much. If the lord wishes to inquire about information, you can go to Fengdu City, where people from all trades are gathered, and the information is more up-to-date."
"Lead the way, to the Ghost Gate." Lin Tian knew the Ghost Messengers weren’t lying and he couldn’t extract any more information, so he directly ordered them to lead the way.
The two Ghost Messengers scrambled to get up and respectfully led the way, as for their own captain, he was long forgotten.
Lin Tian and his companions followed closely behind. As they walked, Xiao Manxuan quietly asked, "Lingyu, why can’t they tell that we’re living people?"
Zhang Lingyu whispered back, "Lin Tian’s Evil Qi is strong, more ghostly than the ghost gods. As for me, I’m wearing battle attire that can conceal the aura of living beings. As for you, Xuanxuan, with my Spirit Talisman protecting you, they can’t tell either."
"Are you talking about the peace charm?" Xiao Manxuan inquired curiously.
"Yes, this Spirit Talisman can protect you and also conceal your aura," Zhang Lingyu affirmed.
"I see, Lingyu, you’re amazing. If only I could learn the Demon Exorcism Skill, I could teach those Ghost Messengers a lesson; they’re too arrogant," Xiao Manxuan recalled what she just heard and was still indignant.
Zhang Lingyu shook her head, somewhat amused, "Learning the spiritual skills is quite taxing. With Lin Tian’s protection, why endure such hardship?"
Xiao Manxuan sneaked a glance at Lin Tian, blushing slightly, but she persisted, "I often feel like I’m a burden; I can’t learn Ancient Martial Skills. If I learn spiritual skills, I might be able to protect Lin Tian someday."
Zhang Lingyu was speechless, thinking helplessly that if you learned spiritual skills, once you knew his identity, you should actually be capturing him, not protecting him.
The Beautiful Sky Master didn’t reveal it and couldn’t say it, so she just smiled and kept silent.
The Ghost Messengers led the way, speeding up their pace, finally crossing the mountain ridge. The mountains in the Netherworld seemed to be mostly made of Stone, with strange plants growing in the crevices.
Sometimes the Ghost Messengers would step on these plants, breaking them and causing red sap to flow out, resembling fresh blood. The creatures of the Netherworld are strange too, Yaksas and Ghost Wolves have black blood, but the plants before them have red sap.
Zhang Lingyu occasionally collected some plants, claiming she used them for making talismans or cultivating Flower Vines for Ruyan.
The Ghost Messengers noticed the strange behavior of Lin Tian and his group but dared not say anything; they were solely focused on leading the way, just wanting to do their job well, to avoid angering the important figures again.
After walking for over an hour, a mist finally appeared in the distance. Lin Tian realized they were near the Ghost Gate; outside the Ghost Gate, there seemed to be a perpetual mist through which even superior vision wasn’t very effective.
Last time Lin Tian entered the Ghost Gate, he encountered the Netherworld Merchant Linghu Cai in the mist. That guy is well-informed, and if he’s around, he might be able to provide some useful information.
However, Linghu Cai, this Netherworld Merchant, is different from regular merchants. He specializes in dealing with oddities and is often elusive, possibly smuggling through the Netherworld right now.
Not long after, more Spiritual Bodies appeared around, all heading in one direction: towards the Ghost Gate, all coming to the Netherworld to report before moving on to their next incarnation.
After walking for another ten minutes, a tall silhouette appeared ahead. As they got closer, they could see it was a tall memorial archway.
The archway was tall and wide, with no end in sight from left to right, at the center was an entrance with three large characters "Ghost Gate" written above, in a simple, yet eerie script.
In front of the entrance, Ghost Messengers stood guard, fiercer-looking than the two before, checking entry tokens while driving away slow-moving yin souls and Spiritual Bodies. Those who were tough in life and didn’t obey at the Ghost Gate would receive a whipping, resulting in ghostly howls.
"Three lords, we have arrived at the Ghost Gate." The gluttonous Ghost Messenger pointed at the tall archway ahead, speaking respectfully. Even on their turf, they didn’t dare cry for help and could only submit.
Lin Tian waved his hand dismissively, like shooing flies, "Vanish from my sight before I change my mind."
His words were harsh, but the two Ghost Messengers were overjoyed to hear them; it meant the three would spare them.
"Thank you, lords, thank you..." the two Ghost Messengers thanked them repeatedly, then sped away, afraid to anger the important people by moving too slowly.
"These two Ghost Messengers are too timid," Xiao Manxuan shook her head, puzzled. The little girl didn’t know that the Netherworld was a world even more hierarchical and survival-of-the-fittest than the Human Realm.
"Never mind them, look at this," Zhang Lingyu raised her hand, extended her palm, and smiled slightly.
In her hand were two black Tokens. Lin Tian’s eyes lit up, "You took them from those Ghost Messengers earlier, right?"
"Exactly, they’re indeed a bit timid, I took their Tokens and they didn’t notice," Zhang Lingyu said with a smile.
"Even if they knew, they probably wouldn’t dare to argue," Xiao Manxuan giggled.
Zhang Lingyu handed the Tokens to Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan, but she didn’t stop moving. Instead, she touched the foreheads of both individuals.
Lin Tian then saw Xiao Manxuan’s appearance start to change, turning into a stranger.
"What’s going on?" Lin Tian’s eyes widened.
Xiao Manxuan also looked at Lin Tian in shock, "Lin Tian, you..."
"What about me?" Lin Tian felt puzzled; meanwhile, he felt something odd above his head, so he raised his hand to touch it and found that his neat short hair had turned into long hair!
"Oh my gosh, did I turn into a woman? What kind of skill is this?" Lin Tian was completely dumbfounded, not knowing what Zhang Lingyu was doing.
Zhang Lingyu clapped her hands, her own appearance also changed into another woman, then she smiled and said, "It’s just a little Disguise Technique I learned from Charlotte in England; I even improved it a bit. How about it, not bad, right?"
