Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 2026 - 2023: Fortress

Chapter 2026: Chapter 2023: Fortress

Mu Yun waved his hand, signaling the guards to rise, and asked, "I wish to see your City Lord."

"Returning to Lord Wuchang, the City Lord is at the camp," the guard respectfully replied.

Mu Yun dismissed the guards and turned to face Lin Tian: "Let’s go to the camp."

"As a City Lord, handling daily affairs should suffice, right? Why does the City Lord of Blood Sea City also go to the camp?" Lin Tian felt curious, having visited Fengdu City’s City Lord’s Mansion many times without seeing Lord Zhu go to the camp.

Xiao Manxuan and Zhang Lingyu blinked their big eyes, also feeling very curious.

Mu Yun turned her horse’s head and headed out of the city again, saying as she rode, "The City Lord of Blood Sea City is named Qie Lanmo. City Lord Jia comes from a military background, so it’s not strange for him to go to the camp."

After she finished speaking, she shook the reins, and the warhorse dashed forward. Lin Tian and his group didn’t know where the camp was, so they had to follow. They exited the city gate they had just passed through, veered to the left, circled most of Blood Sea City, and after another half-hour of travel, they saw a large canyon in the distance.

A massive city wall spanned the canyon, and they could vaguely see people and horses running back and forth on the wall, accompanied by shouts.

"Netherworld Fortress!" Zhang Lingyu exclaimed.

Mu Yun nodded, affirming her guess: "That’s right; this is the Blood Sea City’s fortress."

"If the Netherworld is so strong, why do they still need to build a fortress? What could possibly threaten you?" Xiao Manxuan was puzzled.

Lin Tian’s eyes flickered, speculating: "Could it be hostile spirits?"

"Hostile spirits are only part of it. The Netherworld harbors many unknown creatures, some extremely dangerous. Think about it; the Human Realm has wolves, tigers, and leopards. The Netherworld’s harsh environment means the creatures here are only more ferocious than those in the Human Realm," Mu Yun said solemnly.

After a pause, she continued, "But usually, the fortress wouldn’t be so tense. It seems the guard’s words were understated; the spirit attacks might be more severe."

"Quick, let’s go over and take a look." Mu Yun’s expression grew more serious as she spurred her horse to speed up again.

The four quickly approached the fortress, from which louder shouts could be heard, as if ghost soldiers were undergoing training.

A city wall lower than the fortress blocked the way because this side faced Blood Sea City, so it was built a bit more simply. In the middle of the city wall was a gate, guarded by ghost soldiers.

Seeing Lin Tian’s group approaching on horseback, the ghost soldiers did not clear the way like the Blood Sea City guards. Instead, they lifted long halberds to block the path.

"Blood Sea Fortress, halt!" the ghost soldier shouted loudly.

"We have business with your City Lord." Mu Yun solemnly took out her Token for the first time, showing it to the ghost soldiers in front of her.

In fact, she didn’t need to remove the Token; the ghost soldiers could see it, but this was a fortress, different from other places, where formality was required.

The ghost soldier gave a salute and respectfully said, "Please, Lord Wuchang, wait here. I will inform the City Lord."

This demonstrated the difference at the fortress. The guards didn’t immediately allow entry but first went to notify. The ghost soldier ran inside, while the other ghost soldiers stood straight, secretly scrutinizing Lin Tian’s group, curious about the identities of Lin Tian, Xiao Manxuan, and Zhang Lingyu.

In no time, the reporting ghost soldier returned, still respectfully saying, "The City Lord invites you in."

Mu Yun nodded and rode into the fortress, with Lin Tian’s group naturally following.

Once inside the fortress, it opened up before them. The interior was vast, with houses on either side of the canyon and a massive training ground or drill ground in the middle.

Many ghost soldiers were gathered on the drill ground, forming squads and undergoing training. They ran along the perimeter of the drill ground, and it turned out the riders were cavalry, charging in battle formations on horseback.

These warhorses were like the mounts of Lin Tian’s group, with eyes glowing green, but they fell a bit short in terms of height and majesty.

The four horses perhaps stimulated by the cavalry’s charging scene, began to get restless, pawing at the ground and letting out whinnies. The sound of the ghost horses’ whinnies was very loud, almost echoing across the entire training ground, immediately capturing the attention of nearly all the ghost soldiers.

Whether it was the imposing demeanor of the males, the stunning beauty of the females, or the majesty of the four warhorses, all were enough to catch the eye.

Two horses broke away from the group, with ghost generals riding them. One was clad in dark red armor, the other in black armor, appearing very imposing.

As the two ghost generals drew near, Mu Yun performed a salute to the ghost general in dark red armor, solemnly saying, "Mu Yun, First-class Impermanence, greets City Lord Jia."

This ghost general turned out to be the City Lord of Blood Sea City. Lin Tian, Xiao Manxuan, and Zhang Lingyu exchanged glances, quite surprised; this attire was in stark contrast to the gemstone-adorned robes of Lord Zhu.

While Lord Zhu was dignified and calculating, this City Lord in front of them was rugged and formidable, a different style altogether.

City Lord Jia’s gaze swept over Lin Tian’s group, frowning slightly at the sight of unfamiliar women. Normally, women weren’t allowed in the camp, especially outsiders.

However, he didn’t express anything, but instead, the black-armored ghost general beside him pressed down on his horse sword and said to Mu Yun, "First-class Impermanence, it seems you’re quite powerful. How about we exchange a few moves on the drill ground?" The challenge was unmistakable in his tone.

"He Shan, can you change that bad habit of yours, wanting to fight anyone you see?" City Lord Jia scolded his subordinate.

This ghost general named He Shan laughed and said, "Lord, you’ve said it’s a bad habit, so how can I change it? My hands just itch."

Lin Tian found it amusing in his heart; this He Shan ghost general was straightforward, not hiding what he thought at all.

"Mu Yun Envoy, we military folks speak directly, don’t mind him; let’s get to your business," City Lord Jia, ignoring He’s protest, addressed Mu Yun again.

"City Lord Jia, I heard you issued a blood sea mining mission, and many soul hunters have gone there. We’re keen to learn about the blood sea’s circumstances," Mu Yun asked bluntly, not beating around the bush.

"The blood sea’s circumstances?" City Lord Jia paused for a moment before saying, "That is indeed the case, but I’ve been busy with military affairs these days, and He Shan has been dealing with matters involving the soul hunters, so he knows more."

Lin Tian and Mu Yun looked at He Shan, who rubbed his hands and raised his eyebrows, saying, "If you want to know, you have to fight me first. You’re a man; you can also do it." He pointed at Lin Tian, obviously intending to challenge him.

City Lord Jia’s face darkened as he glared, about to reprimand this battle-happy nut, but Mu Yun spoke first, "It seems unless General He cures his itchy hands, you won’t speak smoothly. Fine, we shall fight!"

Mu Yun was no sheep; as a dignified First-class Impermanence and female yaksha, she wouldn’t fear retreating. She was ready for battle at a word. Lin Tian was unconcerned; after all, they were staying in Blood Sea City to rest, not in a hurry to head to the blood sea.

"Haha, straightforward, first I’ll fight with you, then I’ll fight your friend here. What a fun day," He Shan laughed heartily, but then he seemed to recall something and turned to ask Lin Tian, "Brother, can you fight? If not, let’s forget it; if I hurt you, I won’t be able to heal you."
