Chapter 2053: Chapter 2050: Jing Wuxue
Ancient records state: The sea mirage (Shen), its form resembles a large snake, with horns like a dragon, able to exhale mist that forms towers and cities. It can be seen before rain and is also called a mirage city, or sea market.
"The Mirage Demon has no physical form, similar to a spiritual body. It can create thick fog, illusions, and even possess a person, making it hard to detect. Although it doesn’t have much offensive power, if other strange beasts exist within the illusion, it will be extremely dangerous." Zhang Lingyu explained in detail.
"So, we might be in an illusion and have not yet left the dense fog area?" Lin Tian surveyed the surroundings but could not discern anything unusual.
"We should have already come out, but the problem is that Sister Mu Yun is still in the fog, along with Shangguan Ao Yue and the others. The longer they stay, the deeper they get trapped, attracting more beasts. By then, they won’t be able to get out." Zhang Lingyu said worriedly.
Shangguan Hongyue opened her mouth, wanting to ask Lin Tian for help, but in the end, she kept silent, knowing well the dangers inside. Rescuing people could mean throwing one’s life away, and in a gruesome manner.
But what Lin Tian said next left her stunned. Lin Tian calmly said, "Lingyu, set up a barrier; I’m going in to find Mu Yun." His resolve to go back for the rescue was completely unexpected.
"Alright." Zhang Lingyu nodded in agreement. She wouldn’t abandon Mu Yun either. As she was about to set up the barrier, a commotion of footsteps suddenly came from within the fog.
In no time, a group of people rushed out of the fog, leaving both parties frozen at the sight of each other.
"Big sister, Ziyue..." Shangguan Hongyue exclaimed with joy.
"Sister Mu Yun..." Xiao Manxuan also spotted Mu Yun among the group. Just as Hongyue said, Mu Yun and Shangguan Ao Yue’s team were together, emerging with the Soul Hunter group, unscathed. Lin Tian and the others breathed a sigh of relief.
Shangguan Ao Yue and the archer Ziyue, noticing Lin Tian carrying Hongyue, were taken aback. They hurriedly ran forward, asking, "Hongyue, what’s happened to you? Why are you with him?"
As she spoke, Shangguan Ao Yue tried to pull Hongyue back from Lin Tian’s back, but Lin Tian sidestepped to prevent her from moving.
Shangguan Ao Yue frowned deeply, clearly displeased, "What are you doing?"
Lin Tian didn’t mince words, replying coldly, "Are you blind? Hongyue is severely injured. Can’t you see? Your rough pulling might just send her to see King Yama sooner. Even though it’s all the Netherworld, I doubt you want to meet King Yama yet."
Shangguan Ao Yue’s outstretched hand halted slowly. She touched Hongyue’s forehead, softening her voice, "Where are the injuries?"
"Three injuries, not fatal for now. Lin Tian and they saved me." Shangguan Hongyue answered truthfully.
"They?" Shangguan Ao Yue and Ziyue were incredulous, as were the other Soul Hunters in the team. A few spoiled brats who don’t need rescuing themselves, let alone save others?
The big sister and comrades doubting the benefactors made Shangguan Hongyue feel quite embarrassed. Just as she was about to speak up for Lin Tian and his group, a sudden scream of "Ah!" interrupted their conversation.
"Boss, it looks like Jing Wuxue won’t make it." A’dai came forward, looking worried.
Jing Wuxue? Lin Tian felt a stir, recalling the Soul Hunter team they mentioned earlier.
Looking toward the team, they saw a person lying on the ground, missing an arm, yet with an additional arm at the heart. Lin Tian immediately recognized it as a monster’s arm.
This monster’s arm pierced at Jing Wuxue’s heart, right at the center. Lin Tian could imagine the scene: Jing Wuxue fighting the monster, getting struck through the heart by its claws.
And Jing Wuxue, cutting off the monster’s hand, left the monster’s limb embedded within him. Just thinking about the battle felt tragic.
Jing Wuxue lay trembling, convulsing, black liquid seeping from his mouth—whether poison or blood was unknown. More terrifying, at the site of his lost arm, buds of flesh started to writhe, identical to the scene at Hunter Soul Inn.
"Kill me!" Jing Wuxue, retaining some consciousness, pleaded likewise.
Shangguan Hongyue gritted her teeth, drew the massive sword from her back. Jing Wuxue gave a relieved smile, moved his lips to say two words: "Thank you." Then he closed his eyes.
The massive sword swung down, decapitating him, his head rolling aside. The group turned their heads, unwilling to watch.
Jing Wuxue, having been rescued, couldn’t escape fate. Yet even in death, the flesh buds at his amputated site squirmed ever more frantically, seeming ready to break free and become a new monster.
A’dai took out something and set Jing Wuxue’s body ablaze, including his head, starting to burn altogether. In the intense flames, strange, eerie sounds issued from the corpse, until eventually, it burned to ashes, leaving only remnants.
A Soul Hunter took out a bag, gathered the ashes. Throughout this process, no one spoke, the atmosphere silent and heavy.
"Hongyue’s wounds need attention, otherwise she’ll end up like Jing Wuxue." Lin Tian stated plainly.
"What do you mean, Hongyue won’t die." Shangguan Ziyue cried out anxiously at Lin Tian.
Lin Tian’s lips curled into a cruel smile, "You and Hongyue are twins, can you not sense her current state? Must I explain? What a pity for a fine girl to turn into an ugly monster."
"You..." Shangguan Ziyue, infuriated by Lin Tian’s attitude, nearly lashed out but realized she might not best him.
Shangguan Ao Yue stepped forward, pressing her shoulder, then addressed Lin Tian, "We have no witch doctor here, how can we save her?"
"I studied a bit of medicine. Whether she can be saved depends on her luck." Lin Tian responded indifferently.
"Hongyue can’t let him treat her. With that attitude, even if he’s a witch doctor, he’s just a charlatan." Shangguan Ziyue was deeply unsatisfied and very distrusting of Lin Tian’s treatment.
"Fine, who can do better?" Lin Tian’s gaze swept over their small team, no one spoke up. Then he looked at Shangguan Ziyue again, "Or you can give her an arrow, give her a clean end, sparing her such suffering before death."
"I’ll kill you, bury you with Hongyue!" Shangguan Ziyue’s temper flared intensely, readying her bow to shoot.
"Stop!" Shangguan Hongyue shouted in urgency, yet the exertion made her world spin, and she fainted again.
Lin Tian furrowed his brows, looking coldly at Shangguan Ziyue, "You’re quite the sister. If Hongyue dies, it will be your responsibility."
Shangguan Ziyue gazed upon Hongyue’s pale face, her body trembled, the hand holding her bow faltered, mist forming in her eyes, but she held back tears from falling.
Shangguan Ao Yue locked eyes with Lin Tian, seemingly waging an inner battle before gritting her teeth to say, "Since Hongyue claims you saved her, I’ll trust you this once. As long as you can save Hongyue, any condition you have will be met."
