Chapter 2105: Chapter 2102: Millennia-Old Clan
"How did it end up like this?" Lin Tian froze for a moment and looked at his thumb. There was only a black iron ring there, completely unchanged.
Just as Lin Tian was puzzled, a crisp snap broke his train of thought. He felt his grip loosen and his body fell backward.
Luckily his reflexes were good; he twisted in midair and landed steady. But when he saw what was in his hands, he froze again. All he held was half a broken sword. With the purple flames gone, he could see clearly—it was half of the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword.
"Fuck, it broke..." Lin Tian couldn’t help cursing. This wasn’t some knockoff; it was the genuine Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword, and it had snapped.
Xu Feibai and the others looked at Lin Tian, then at the broken sword, their faces full of disbelief. From his expression, even Xu Feibai hadn’t expected the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword to break.
"Xu Feibai, what kind of jinx are you? Whatever you pay me with, you end up wrecking it." Lin Tian was speechless and more than a little heartbroken, because the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword was Xu Feibai’s payment and already belonged to him—but now the real one and the fake one shared the same fate: broken.
"Master, you’re a natural bane to treasured swords. First you broke the Sword of the King, now you’ve broken the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword. I wonder how long the Heavenly Tribulation Sword can hold out." The Sword Spirit’s tone was half teasing, half helpless. It didn’t know if following a master like this was a blessing or a curse.
Lin Tian blinked, feeling a bit dumbfounded. Inwardly he thought, Am I really some kind of Divine Artifact jinx? Everything I touch breaks?
Crack, crack, crack...
Suddenly a few sharp sounds interrupted everyone’s thoughts. Lin Tian snapped back to reality and saw the stone platform inside the coffin splitting apart. The half-broken sword fell to the bottom of the coffin, and within the stone platform a semi-transparent crystal box was revealed.
Through the crystal, he could faintly make out something inside.
"Jiang Chen’s head..." Yasuo exclaimed, eyes lighting up as he couldn’t help stepping forward a few paces.
But Xu Feibai only glanced at him mildly, and the Secret Master felt as if he’d fallen into an ice cellar, instantly sobering up.
Seeing this, Lin Tian chuckled inwardly. Yasuo’s rebellious heart had long been there; what he was thinking at this moment was probably how to devour Jiang Chen’s Head, surpass Xu Feibai, and then turn on him.
As for why Xu Feibai was keeping such a hidden danger around, Lin Tian had no idea.
Xu Feibai turned back to look at the crystal box, walked up, and lifted it out with both hands. The crystal box was made like a miniature coffin. He gently pushed the lid and opened it, revealing what lay inside.
A severed head lay quietly in the box. Unexpectedly, it wasn’t as ferocious or terrifying as one would imagine. Instead, it was a broad, square face—resolute, imposing, with slightly knitted brows that radiated authority without anger.
Though the eyes were closed, it gave the feeling that they could open at any moment and wake up.
"What overwhelming presence. Even decapitated, he hasn’t lost an ounce of momentum." Lin Tian couldn’t help praising.
Lin Tian had seen all four Zombie Ancestors. Although Jiang Chen was dead, he still counted; each Zombie Ancestor had their own traits.
Jiang Chen was stern and majestic. Houqing followed his whims, free and unfettered. Ying Gou was eerie and unfathomable. As for Nu Ba, she was pure and beautiful—of course, that was her before fully regaining her memories. Once she did, her personality might be completely different.
"Congratulations, Young Master, you’ve gathered Jiang Chen’s body. Reviving the Ancestor is just around the corner." Several subordinates offered their congratulations in unison.
Xu Feibai showed little reaction. He closed the crystal box, handed it to Yuan Liuming, then said to Lin Tian, "Although the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword is broken, its material is extremely rare—it’s still a treasure. If you ever meet a truly masterful Swordsmith, there’s a chance it could be restored."
"Forget restoring it. If I get the chance to melt it into the Heavenly Tribulation Sword, it might actually be useful." Lin Tian shook his head with a laugh; he had no intention of repairing the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword.
Some things, once broken, should stay broken; they mark the end of an era. Something new will always take their place.
"Help Lin Tian pack up everything and take it with us." Xu Feibai glanced at the masked man and issued the order.
The masked man looked at Lin Tian but didn’t move immediately. Lin Tian instead started laughing. "Your subordinates all have a hell of a lot of personality."
"Ten minutes from now, we withdraw from the Shrine." Xu Feibai didn’t repeat himself; he gave another command and walked toward the cave entrance.
Lin Tian shot the masked man a glance and followed them out. Once the two had gone, Yasuo said to the masked man with a hint of mockery, "You always seem to obey the Master without question. Who’d have thought you’d disobey a command. Let me remind you—be careful not to annoy the Master, or he might snap you in half."
The masked man gave him a sidelong look and said coldly, "Worry about yourself."
Not long after Lin Tian exited, he saw the masked man carrying the stone coffin out. The massive coffin was held up effortlessly in one hand—the strength of a zombie really was immense.
"Interested in seeing Jiang Chen’s revival?" Xu Feibai asked, half-smiling, tone ambiguous.
"He can really be revived? Then I’ve got to go broaden my horizons." Lin Tian didn’t refuse; he also wanted to know how the Xu Family planned to resurrect Jiang Chen.
Xu Feibai didn’t bother explaining. Instead, he sent out a sound signal, and soon two helicopters flew in overhead.
By now, the Shrine’s Barrier had already vanished; they no longer needed the Qiong Gou Jade to maintain an opening. The helicopters descended directly. The masked man carried the stone coffin up and loaded everything, including the two broken swords—three, to be precise, counting that shattered stone sword.
Lin Tian and Xu Feibai boarded the other helicopter, and its engines roared as they took off.
Because Xu Feibai had brought long-range transport helicopters, they didn’t stop along the way. They kept flying, crossed a plain, then headed out over the sea, finally landing on a massive island.
From the sky, the island was huge, comparable to a town in Huaxia. On the eastern mountains of the island stood a large manor, and the helicopters landed in its grounds.
Lin Tian hopped out of the helicopter and looked around. "I’m fairly familiar with Japan’s maps, and I don’t recall any island like this being marked."
Xu Feibai smiled casually. "Every country in the world has places that aren’t on the map. Nothing strange about that. This island—our Ancestors named it Guangze Island—is one of the Xu Family’s gathering grounds."
"One of them?" Lin Tian raised an eyebrow with a grin. "Looks like the Xu Family’s doing pretty damn well."
Just then, a group of Black Robed Men approached from the distance. Their clothes were identical to Yuan Liuming’s. Three men and three women, all middle-aged; it was obvious they were Onmyoji.
Lin Tian was slightly shocked. Counting Yuan Liuming, that made seven Onmyoji. Zombies and Onmyoji coexisting within the same family, plus an Oda Manaka type who was both Gu Cultivator and Pharmacist—and surely others who hadn’t shown themselves yet. Adding it all up, the Xu Family’s strength was anything but ordinary.
On second thought, it made sense. Xu Fu himself was a Magician, versed in Daoist arts; raising a few Onmyoji wasn’t surprising.
Before this, Lin Tian had marveled at Zhang Lingyu and the Zhang Family’s power. Now it seemed the Xu Family was not much weaker than the Zhang Family; both were great clans whose heritage stretched back over a thousand years.
