Chapter 2125: Chapter 2122: Undying Soul
The Sword Spirit’s words, or rather, the Court Wizard’s words, were enlightening for Lin Tian, as if a great being had traveled through time and space to guide him, and the Sword Spirit was the medium.
Unexpectedly, this chatterbox was somewhat useful, making Lin Tian very happy. It seemed that when the Sword Spirit was the Sword of the King, it not only accompanied King Arthur in his conquests but also witnessed many things and learned a lot of wisdom.
If he had the time, Lin Tian thought he should explore this guy’s potential. He couldn’t let such a treasure lie around lazily, almost turning into a pig. With a chuckle, Lin Tian plotted about the Sword Spirit.
The Sword Spirit suddenly shivered and looked around, thinking, who was thinking of The King?
"I understand what you mean now. Mengluo Great Wizard could live for over two thousand years for two reasons. One, his body was fortified by elixirs, making it immortal; and two, his soul cultivated Xuanwu Meditation, making it indestructible." As Lin Tian thought more about this, it became clearer.
He had a moment of realization and continued to muse to himself, "Mengluo Great Wizard once said that cultivating Xuanwu Meditation doesn’t increase power, and the reason is likely here, because Xuanwu Meditation cultivates the soul, not the body."
While speaking, a spark of inspiration suddenly flashed through his mind. Lin Tian was overjoyed: "No, maybe what Mengluo said is incorrect, or at least not entirely correct. Cultivating the soul might not enhance power, but there must be something mystical about it."
"For example, Ying Gou, who was divided into two halves, one righteous and one evil, by a powerful ancient being yet still lived well. If it were only physical strength, this would be impossible. His soul, or rather, Primordial Spirit, is strong enough to withstand division."
"If it were me, I’d surely be dead. I have a feeling that the strength and potential of Xuanwu Meditation are no less than those of beast hide cultivation techniques, with one refining the soul and the other refining the body." Lin Tian spoke more and more excitedly, as if he had comprehended some truths.
Lin Tian felt that even Mengluo Great Wizard hadn’t fully tapped the potential of Xuanwu Meditation. Senior Sister Zi Yan just mentioned that Xuanwu Meditation originates from ancient times, appearing briefly during the Pre-Qin period, with potential waiting to be uncovered.
Perhaps, Mengluo Great Wizard also realized this, which is why he sealed Xuanwu Meditation within the Imperial Jade Seal. Otherwise, how could an ordinary Cultivation Technique deserve such a distinguished vessel as the Imperial Jade Seal? Of course, that so-called secret is definitely not referring to Xuanwu Meditation.
"Master is truly a genius, unmatched in comprehension. When the Xuanwu is immobile, the divine does not perish. Here, the divine refers not to mythical gods but to human souls, Divine Sense, or Primordial Spirit. Master has grasped the core mystery of Xuanwu Meditation." The Sword Spirit exclaimed loudly, full of admiration.
Lin Tian shook his head slightly and spoke casually, "Claiming to have grasped the core mystery is a bit of an exaggeration; it’s just an entry-level understanding."
"Master might try cultivating; you’re a zombie, so even if the cultivation is wrong, you shouldn’t be affected." The Sword Spirit said excitedly.
Lin Tian felt somewhat expectant. After putting away the Jade Seal, he climbed to the rooftop. It was just past noon, and the sun was still bright. Instead of immediately crossing his legs to meditate, he began practicing the beast hide Cultivation Technique.
Move after move, step after step, Lin Tian executed those high-level movements. The essence of the sun in the sky seemed to be summoned by some ancient force, silently converging toward him.
At the end of the beast hide Cultivation Technique, Lin Tian formed seals with his hands and sat down. Usually, he’d remain seated until the cultivation ended, but now, another Cultivation Technique flashed through his mind: Xuanwu Meditation.
The texts and images passed through his mind as if watching a film, gradually becoming clearer. Lin Tian’s hands suddenly changed rapidly, shifting to a different seal.
This was a new seal, with ten fingers interweaving in a certain pattern placed before his abdomen. It seemed chaotic and complex yet conveyed mysterious profundity.
This seal originated from Xuanwu Meditation, known as the Heart Seal. After forming the Heart Calming Seal, Lin Tian slowly closed his eyes, concentrating his mind between his brows, which is the position of the Upper Elixir Field.
After a long time, feeling that he had cast aside distractions, he slowly shifted his mind downward, passing through the Middle Dantian, to the space between the navel and lower abdomen, the Lower Elixir Field.
Focusing his mind on the Lower Elixir Field, he imagined it as a tranquil void, devoid of objects and self; this was the first step, Calming the Heart.
This first step of Calming the Heart seems simple in the cultivation description but is actually challenging. Calming the Heart is divided into several stages: reducing distractions, having no distractions, being as tranquil as still water, and finally, devoid of objects and self yet not losing consciousness.
Losing consciousness means falling asleep, and if you fall asleep, you don’t practice cultivation. The mind should be between waking and sleeping, feeling neither limbs nor body, yet guarding an everlasting Spirit Platform. Only then is Calming the Heart achieved.
In the modern society, people are often restless; achieving reduced distractions is difficult, having no distractions is nearly impossible, let alone being as tranquil as still water; as for being devoid of objects and self without losing consciousness, it’s completely unattainable.
Of course, there is a type of person who can achieve this, and that is the Ancient Martial Artist. However, the degree to which they can achieve it varies. A mid-Innate level expert like Wang Wanxi should be able to achieve tranquility like still water.
Moreover, there is another factor influencing the effect of Calming the Heart, which is sitting cross-legged. People with poor physical condition will have numbed legs after a few minutes, unable to continue practicing.
Lin Tian naturally didn’t have this issue. With an indomitable zombie body, not only could he sit cross-legged, but he could also perform the most difficult movements and sustain them for a long time.
Sitting cross-legged, forming seals, and focusing on the Dantian for a long time, Lin Tian took a deep breath, guiding the breath directly into the Lower Elixir Field, then held the breath and slowly exhaled.
One breath in and out constitutes one breath, known as Breath Control, advancing step-by-step, lengthening the time of each inhale and exhale.
Information flashed through Lin Tian’s mind, a survey report: a chicken breathes thirty times a minute, lives twelve years; a duck breathes twenty-eight times a minute, lives sixteen years.
A dog breathes twenty-four times a minute, lives twenty years; an elephant breathes twenty times a minute, lives sixty years; a human breathes sixteen times a minute, and roughly lives to seventy-two years.
A turtle breathes eight times a minute, some turtles even breathe only two times a minute, living for two hundred to five hundred years. This is a simple comparison, not a strict direct proportion.
Of course, this breathing time isn’t forced but in a normal state. Humans have wisdom, allowing them to cultivate, for instance, Breath Control, the breathing techniques of Longevity Technique.
Merely from the aspect of Breath Control, comparing ancient and modern resembles concurrent paths leading to the same destination.
Oh no, Lin Tian suddenly felt alarmed, interrupting his cultivation because the so-called survey report flashing through his mind was also a distraction!
Sometimes, having too much knowledge isn’t advantageous for cultivation. Some related knowledge information may suddenly pop up during cultivation, interfering with practice; in this case, knowledge becomes a distraction.
"Indeed, cultivating Xuanwu Meditation isn’t that simple." Lin Tian remarked with a sigh, though he did not feel much disappointment. After all, it was just a trial, and he knew his limits.
The third step, entering meditation, is truly challenging. Calming the Heart and Breath Control reaching a harmonious state naturally leads to meditation, entering a wondrous state between life and death.
