10x Rewards: Novel's Extra's Cultivation Stealing System
Chapter 185: Rich Gu Fan, Miserable Gu ChenWhile Gu Fan was effortlessly turning the lethal labyrinth into his personal playground, and eyeing the rewards of his loot, the situation in the other cave was a nightmare for Gu Chen.
Gu Chen had led four of the remaining exhausted Gu Clan disciples with him as he was on his way to bring back the stolen Emperor’s tribute.
And he had already assumed that Gu Fan’s reckless decision to walk away alone was a suicide mission, expecting the lethal traps to rip that bastard young master into bloody pieces while he claimed all the supreme glory.
But that arrogant confidence of his did not even last for ten minutes. Within ten minutes he knew that today was not his day. Not in the slightest.
He was having the worst day of his cultivation life. Nothing had gone according to plan. Absolutely nothing.
From the moment he entered the Miasma Woods, the heavens seemed determined to slap him across the face every few hundred steps.
First came the Ironback Abyss Crocodiles.
Then that Slaughter Array.
Then the Blood Fiend Demonic Sect.
Followed by the Phantom Sirens.
And above all, there was Gu Fan.
Gu Chen still believed the last one was by far the greatest disaster.
"..."
Just thinking about him, Gu Chen could not help but rub his aching temples.
The oppressive darkness dampened their spiritual senses, making it hard on them to scan the cavern ahead.
Even Gu Chen as he walked through the dark cavern still felt a bit dizzy every now and then thanks to the overuse of his Righteous Eyes several times.
His expensive white robes had long since lost their elegant appearance. They were covered in mud, blood, flesh and god knows what.
There wasn’t a single clean patch left on his clothes as one disciple quietly looked at him, "Young Master Chen..."
Gu Chen raised his head, "What?"
"Your sleeve..." The disciple softly said pointing at his arm.
Gu Chen looked down, and found another hole in his sleeve.
"Forget it." He closed his eyes as he no longer cared. His image as the elegant Golden Boy was beyond saving.
The disciples silently followed behind him as each one of them looked more miserable than the other.
One limped. Another had his arm wrapped with torn robes. One had lost half an ear. While another kept coughing blood every few minutes.
Even so... none of them dared to take a break as Gu Chen still walked at the front.
"Stay alert," Gu Chen spoke, gripping his sword tightly, "The Phantom Sirens know these caves. We cannot relax."
"Yes, Young Master Chen." Everyone nodded.
And barely they had acknowledged his orders when one of the disciples walking right beside Gu Chen accidentally stepped onto a slightly raised stone pressure plate, and before Gu Chen could even warn everyone the jagged cavern wall in front of him opened up with a BOOM!.
And the next moment dozens of hidden metal tubes fired a massive barrage of highly toxic, dark green acid darts straight into the narrow tunnel.
"Form a Qi shield!" Gu Chen roared, swinging his silver sword to deflect the incoming projectiles with his Qi strikes as he channeled his Spiritual Qi into a thick defensive barrier around him.
But while Gu Chen was quick to react, the exhausted disciples were too slow to react.
"Ahhhhh! Heavens, my face!" One of the leading disciples shrieked at the absolute top of his lungs in pure agony, as three acid darts pierced through his weak Qi barrier and buried themselves directly into his cheeks and neck.
The highly corrosive acid instantly melted his skin and muscle tissue into a deeply sickening dark green sludge.
The screaming disciple let go of his spear, clawing at his own melting face like a maniac just as his eyeballs melted and ran down his cheeks, before the disciple collapsed dead onto the ground before his agonizing screams died down in the dark tunnel.
Gu Chen violently gritted his teeth so hard his gums bled. He swung his sword to shatter the remaining darts, but a few drops of the corrosive acid splashed onto his pristine white robes, burning right through the expensive silk and heavily searing his pale skin.
"Ugghh! Damn It! He winced in pain. But he did not dare stop, and completely ignoring the melting corpse of his loyal subordinate, he ordered, "Keep moving! Do not stop for a single second!"
And barely five minutes later...
CLICK.
"..."
"..."
Gu Chen slowly looked down. This time it was his foot that had landed on a stone tile.
The disciples’ expressions immediately changed, "Young Master!" They cried out.
The cave walls moved and hundreds of holes appeared the very next second on the wall surface.
WHOOSH!
Hundreds of poisoned arrows shot from both walls.
"Dodge!" Gu Chen’s sword erupted with silver light, as he cried out loud, "Thousand Sword Edge Manifestation!"
And just as he finished speaking, dozens of sword intents formed in thin air, each one sharp and precise, erupting outward to intercept the incoming arrows.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The arrows shattered mid-flight, unable to breach the dense web of sword energy while the disciples desperately rolled across the ground, trying tho save themselves.
But one of them wasn’t fast enough.
"Aaagh!" A poisoned arrow pierced straight through his shoulder, and another arrow embedded itself into his thigh.
The disciple immediately fell to one knee as the poison began to spread through his veins with lightning speed..
"The poison..." Gu Chen rushed over, "Get me a Detoxification Pill."
Soon one of the disciples gave Gu chen the pill and Gu Chen made the injured disciple swallow the medicine immediately.
And then they waited. They waited patiently for several breaths and the poison finally began to stabilize.
Everyone released a sigh of relief.
Gu Chen looked toward the ceiling, "One trap after the other."
"Young Master..." The disciple in Gu Fan’s arms weakly laughed, "I think these caves hate us."
But nobody else laughed.
Nobody disagreed.
