"Patriarch, don’t be so harsh. It was nothing but a small mistake."

"Yes, patriarch! And now that the Matriarch has taken care of the matter, there is no need to pursue this small failure any longer."

"Huh?!" At the mention of Madam Li, Gu Yangtian could not help but raise his eyebrow as he looked at the elder who just spoke.

Right now the atmosphere inside the grand Audience Hall of the Gu Clan was already very tense. The First Elder and his supporters were trying to make Gu Yangtian let go of Gu Chen’s small hiccup, and let it slide this time.

But exactly this persistence of the first elder was giving Gu Yangtian a headache, because the other side was not willing to give up as well. And why would they? Dozens of the younger generation disciples were dead, and apparently for no reason at all.

The demand of the other group to see some heads roll was absolutely justified. And if Gu Yangtian were to not take their side this time, there was a chance the resentment among the clan members was going to rise.

Under such immense pressure, Gu Yangtian just wanted the heavens to strike so he could get out of here.

And maybe since nothing was going his way for so long, the heavens finally had some pity on him.

Just when the second elder was about to blast off, the heavy wooden doors of the grand Audience Hall exploded inward with a deafening, earth-shattering crash.

BOOM!

"Is this how the Gu Clan welcomes its true heir?!"

And suddenly every elder inside the hall had turned to look towards the entrance.

Gu Yangtian’s eyebrow twitched. He recognised that voice.

The First Elder stopped drinking his tea.

Two servants standing near the pillars immediately lowered their heads, while the guards stationed outside the audience hall quietly took a step backward.

Then...

A young man entered the hall confidently. Stepping directly through the shattered doorway was the Second Young Master of the Gu Clan, Gu Bao.

Wearing a luxurious golden robe embroidered with nine silver serpents, with a thick white spirit-fur mantle rested over his shoulders despite the weather outside being nowhere near cold enough to require one, Gu bao slowly walked inside the hall.

"Did everyone miss me?" Gu Bao rubbed his cheeks with a smirk, showing the three spatial rings covering his right hand while two slipped onto his left.

A jade pendant hung from his waist, while another hung around his neck.

And then there was a thumb-sized purple spirit pearl tied directly to his hair.

"..." Gu Yangtian stared at him.

Meanwhile what silenced the bickering elders was not his flashy outfit, but the terrifyingly dense oppressive Qi radiating from his body.

One elder slowly looked at another elder while the other elder quietly shook his head.

No one said anything while Gu Bao continued walking, as he took deliberate steps, keeping his chin raised and his hands folded casually behind his back.

Then...

BOOM!

Gu Bao did not hold back and forced his Origin Realm aura to suppress the entire hall.

The pressure swept through the Audience Hall, causing the robes of several elders to violently flutter while two weaker ones stumbled backward.

A servant carrying a tray of tea nearly fell.

Gu Bao smiled.

"Origin Realm?!" The First Elder gasped loudly, his eyes widening in pure shock as he stared at the young master, "The Second Young Master has actually broken through to the Origin Realm at such a young age!"

"Hahaha!" Gu Bao’s loud laughter echoed through the entire hall. For him it was apparently enough to declare himself the reincarnation of an Ancient Emperor.

Gu Bao finally stopped at the centre of the hall and looked around with a smile on his face that began to slowly fade.

"Where is it?" Gu Bao asked.

"Where is what?" Gu Yangtian frowned.

"The carpet," Gu Bao said as a matter of fact.

"What carpet?" Gu Yangtian rubbed his forehead in irritation, ’You could have just struck with lightning. Why did you have to send him?’

Gu Bao looked genuinely confused, "The red carpet."

The entire hall became silent at his words. None of them couldn’t even say they missed him.

Gu Yangtian slowly looked up and asked with a sigh, "Why would there be a red carpet?"

Gu Bao stared at his father for a second before pointing at himself, "I have returned."

"After spending months away in brutal cultivation when I returned instead of welcoming your future Patriarch, you old fools are just standing around arguing," Gu Bao sneered.

Patriarch Gu Yangtian heavily gripped the armrests of his golden throne, his face turning an ugly shade of dark purple.

Gu Bao spread his arms, "So where is the red carpet?"

One of the older elders coughed and another elder immediately looked down at the floor.

Gu Yangtian closed his eyes.

For a brief moment, he genuinely appeared to be questioning every decision he had made during the past thirty years.

"Bao’er." Gu Yangtian barely managed to speak.

"Yes, Father?" Gu Bao looked up at Gu Yangtian.

"Walk inside," Gu Yangtian ordered.

"I already did." Gu Bao shrugged.

"Then stop asking about the fucking carpet," Gu Yangtian finally had enough.

"..."

Gu Bao’s face stiffened and several elders immediately lowered their heads.

One elder’s shoulders trembled.

"Did someone laugh?" Gu Bao’s eyes narrowed, but no one answered.

Gu Bao’s gaze moved from one elder to another, "Which old bastard laughed?"

The First Elder’s face darkened, "Second Young Master, mind your words."

"Oh." Gu Bao turned and looked at the First Elder and laughed, "It’s you."

The First Elder frowned while Gu Bao casually walked toward him.

"You still haven’t broken through?" Gu Bao looked at the First Elder from top to bottom, "What a pity."

The elder’s face immediately stiffened while Gu bao continued, "How many years has it been?"

"..."

"Twenty?"

"..."

"Thirty?"

The First Elder’s body trembled.

Gu Bao shook his head, "Tragic."

"You..." The First Elder raised his finger pointing at Gu Bao, but Gu Bao interrupted him.

"Don’t be angry, Elder Shan," Gu Bao said with a smile, "Anger damages the liver, while your cultivation is already stuck, so if your liver fails as well, what exactly will you have left?"

The entire hall became painfully quiet while Gu Yangtian almost slapped himself in the face.

He had forgotten somehow how annoying his second son was. Perhaps distance truly made the heart forget that his child was a complete pain in the ass.

Gu Bao turned away from the furious elder and continued walking towards his father. But...

A wooden chair blocked his path.

Gu Bao stopped. He looked at it.

Then...

BANG!

He kicked it aside.

The Springheart Wood chair spun across the polished floor before crashing directly into a pillar.

Gu Yangtian’s face twitched, "That chair is three hundred years old."

Gu Bao glanced backward, "It was in my way."

"It belonged to your grandfather."

"..."

Gu Bao looked at the broken chair.

Then at Gu Yangtian.

Gu Bao nodded, "He isn’t using it anyway."

’My Heavens! Why me?" While maintaining a calm expression on his face, Gu Yangtian calmly reached for his tea.

In reality, he needed something stronger. Much stronger.

But unfortunately for him, clan meetings generally frowned upon the Patriarch drinking wine before noon.

At this moment, Gu Yangtian seriously considered changing that rule.

Meanwhile Gu Bao proudly stood in the middle of the Audience Hall.

"Everyone can relax." Gu Bao addressed the elders, but it only made the elders frown even more.

Gu Bao spread his arms as if he was the messiah they have all been waiting for, "I have returned."

No one moved.

"The Gu Clan’s difficult days are finally over," Gu Bao continued as the First Elder’s expression became strange, "During my time at the Li Clan, I entered the Thousand Spirit Pool, cultivated beneath the Three-Yang Spirit Tree, consumed a Earth-Grade Meridian Opening Pill, and received personal guidance from Great Elder Li himself."

He proudly tapped his chest.

"And now..."

BOOM!

His Origin Realm aura erupted again.

"As you all can see, I have broken through!"

A servant stumbled again, and this only made Gu Bao smile wider.

"Congratulations, Second Young Master," An elder from the branch family quickly cupped his hands.

Gu Bao nodded, "Good."

And another elder immediately understood the assignment.

"Second Young Master’s talent truly shakes the heavens!" He cupped his hands as well and praised Gu Bao.

Gu Bao’s smile widened, "Continue."

The smile on the elder’s face froze, "Huh... Continue?"

"The praise." Gu Bao told him.

"..."

Gu Bao frowned, "You have stopped."

The elder’s face twitched, but he still cupped his hands again.

"Second Young Master’s cultivation speed is unmatched among the younger generation!"

Gu Bao nodded, "Better."

Then another elder spoke, "Second Young Master has indeed progressed greatly."

Gu Bao smiled, "Exactly."

And then one after the other elders began to praise Gu bao as Gu Yangtian quietly watched his son act so proud and mighty.

Then he looked toward the ceiling.

’Gu Wei.’

For some reason, the image of his dead eldest son suddenly appeared in his mind.

’Why did you have to die?’
