"Gu Bao! Control your insolence!" Gu Yangtian had to finally show his authority, "You dare talk to the elders like that? Are you challenging their authority?"

"Oh, relax, old man," Gu Bao laughed loudly, waving his hand dismissively at his own father as if the Patriarch was just an annoying, buzzing fly, "I am just keeping the mood light."

"I am sure everyone here appreciates my harmless jokes," Gu Bao said, turning his arrogant gaze away from the sweating Patriarch, his sharp eyes darting across the hall until they locked onto a figure quietly leaning against a stone pillar in the far corner.

It was Gu Chen.

Although several days had passed since the expedition, Gu Chen’s injuries were still clearly visible.

His face was still slightly pale and though his breathing looked controlled, it was weak.

A faint medicinal smell lingered around his robes.

But more importantly, the usual proud light in his eyes had dimmed.

"Oh?!" Gu Bao stared at him from top to bottom and then a malicious grin spread across Gu Bao’s face as he marched across the hall, walking right up to the injured protagonist with his chest puffed out in pure superiority, "Look who it is."

Gu Chen’s expression immediately darkened.

"My dear brother Chen," Gu Bao mocked, crossing his arms over his chest, "You look... well...I guess."

"I was far away... But I had my eyes on you," Gu Bao put his hand over Gu Chen’s shoulder like a big brother affectionately meeting his brother after a long time, "I heard you got your ass handed to you by a bunch of girls, Brother Chen? I mean that must be a story. You should tell me all about it over wine."

Gu Chen’s fingers tightened, but in front of Gu Yangtian and the elders, he could not do anything to him.

For several breaths, the two young men stared at each other.

Gu Chen was a Third Stage Origin Realm cultivator. And Gu Bao had recently broken through to the Origin realm. The gap between them was vast.

Normally, Gu Bao would never dare to act so arrogantly in front of him.

But Gu Chen had just taken a big blow to his standing in the Gu Clan. Right now, Gu Chen cannot risk himself further. He might be the strongest in the younger generation, but there were still a bunch of elders he could not stand against.

But while he could not retaliate to Gu Bao’s provocations with fist, Gu Chen wasn’t going to let a good for nothing young master just walk all over him.

"Watch your mouth, Brother Bao," Gu Chen warned through gritted teeth, his voice trembling with barely suppressed fury, "You know nothing about what I had to face. Not everyone gets to shoot their mouth while hiding in their mother’s lap."

"I know that you led twenty of our brothers straight to their pathetic deaths and returned with empty hands like a useless dog you actually are, Hahaha!" Gu Bao laughed out aloud as he poked Gu Chen directly in the absolute center of his heavily bandaged chest.

"How many survived again?"

Gu Bao looked around.

"Eight?"

Gu Chen clenched his fists.

Gu Bao leaned closer.

"Seven?"

"..."

Gu Chen’s jaw tightened as Gu Bao’s finger pressed harder against his chest.

"Careful," Gu Bao smiled, "You look fragile."

"Aaaagghk!" Gu Chen let out a breathless grunt of agony, agonizing spike of pain shooting straight through his internal organs.

"Look at him!" Gu Bao laughed loudly, throwing his head back in sheer amusement as he pointed his finger directly at the gasping Gu Chen. "He can’t even take a simple poke from me! You call yourself a genius? You are nothing but a pathetic, broken piece of trash!"

"I remember every single one of you praising him."

"’Gu Chen is a genius!’" Gu Bao raised his voice into a ridiculous imitation, "’Gu Chen will lead the younger generation!’"

Several elders looked uncomfortable, but Gu Bao did not stop as he said pointing at Gu Chen.

"Then this supreme genius walked into a forest and got his ass beaten by a group of women!"

A few elders quickly covered their mouths.

Gu Chen’s face turned purple, "They were Phantom Sirens."

Gu Bao blinked, "Women"

"They are a highly trained assassination group."

"Women."

"They belong to the Neth..."

"Women!"

"Pathetic," Gu Bao scoffed, "Golden Boy? My ass."

Several elders immediately stood to defend Gu Chen and offer peace so as to make sure the verbal spat between the two young masters does not turn bloody.

"I think it is enough, Young master Bao!"

"Young Master Chen! Calm yourself!"

Gu Bao watched the elders as he smiled with satisfaction.

He had won. At least this round.

Gu Bao casually adjusted his golden robes, "The Gu Clan doesn’t need a failed Golden Boy."

He looked around the Audience Hall.

"The Eldest Brother is dead." Gu Bao made them remember.

And just at the mention of Gu Wei, the atmosphere immediately became heavy.

"Gu Jian hides behind his fiancee’s family. He has long lost the pride for our clan."

"Gu Heng only knows how to punch rocks. Heavens it is so easy to be simple minded."

"Gu Han had already run away."

"And Gu Ying is..." Gu Bao paused as she tried to remember, "What has Gu Ying done for this clan again?"

The hal;l went silent and no one answered.

"Exactly!" Gu Bao shrugged. Then he placed one hand against his chest.

"Therefore..." He smiled proudly, "The Gu Clan now has only one true heir."

Gu Chen stared at him while several elders exchanged strange looks. No one knew how to refute his words because none of it was in the least wrong.

"Bao’er." Gu Yangtian decided to put an end to it finally.

"Yes, Father?" Gu Bao looked at Gu Yangtian like an obedient son.

"Sit down."

Gu Bao smiled, "Father, there is no need to hide your pride."

"Sit."

"I understand that seeing your son become an Origin Realm expert must be emotional," With his face held high, Gu Bao did not care to stop, but Gu Yangtian was not joking right now.

"Sit."

"You may praise me openly."

"Gu Bao." A chill suddenly spread through the hall which even made the cheeky grin on Gu Bao’s face to stiffen.

"Y... Yes?" Gu Bao finally understood that the free rope had come to an end.

"If you do not sit down within three breaths, I will personally break both of your legs."

"Yes, father!" Gu Bao scrambled hurriedly, finding a seat for himself.

But before he could find himself a spot, a voice echoed through the hall that made him stop.

"WHO DARES TO BREAK MY SON’S LEGS?"
