"Who dares to break my son’s legs?!"

Before Gu Yangtian’s threat could settle into the air, a voice echoed into the hall and Gu Yangtian’s body stiffened.

And then the side doors of the Audience Hall opened, as a servant bowed deeply, announcing the arrival, "The Matriarch has arrived!"

Madam Li calmly entered the Audience Hall, her posture straight and steps measured.

She wore a purple silk dress decorated with faint golden phoenix patterns that did its best to hide her inviting breasts and smooth thighs, while her long black hair was held by a simple jade hairpin.

Her beautiful face carried an incredibly cold, domineering aura that instantly demanded absolute obedience from the entire hall.

She didn’t release any cultivation pressure like the others. She didn’t need to.

The moment she walked in, the Second and Third Elders along with other elders from her faction immediately straightened and bowed down to greet her.

Even Gu Bao stared as his eyes widened.

Then suddenly the arrogance on his face vanished as he jumped up in the air, "Mother!"

The roaring tiger instantly turned into a desperate golden retriever as Gu Bao rushed across the expensive carpets, and threw himself into a deep, highly submissive bow right in front of his mother.

"Mother!" Gu Bao cheered loudly with an eager smile stretching across his face as he gently grabbed her soft, pale hand and kissed her knuckles with absolute devotion, "Your precious son has finally returned to you!"

Madam Li looked at Gu Bao and simply nodded before turning her gaze back to the elders and her husband, "Is there a problem, Patriarch?"

"Li Hua..." Gu Yangtian stammered as she did not know how to face his wife.

But for such very moments he has his lackeys. Seeing the Patriarch in a pinch, the First Elder stepped forward.

"Matriarch! The Second Young Master just went too far! We already know Gu Chen got heavily injured for the sake of the clan!" The elder said, "Patriarch was just trying to make the Second Young Master understand."

"Shut your mouth, you useless old fossil, before I rip your white beard off your ugly face!" Gu Bao snapped and turned to look back at his mother, "The Gu Clan only has only one true, capable heir, aren’t I mother?!"

Gu Bao announced loudly, his voice echoing with deep, undeniable superiority, "I possess a strong foundation, and I carry the massive military backing of the supreme Li Clan! Anyone who refuses to bow to my authority will be ruthlessly crushed!"

Madam Li simply raised an eyebrow, looking down at her son with a highly unreadable, slightly annoyed expression.

"I have trained incredibly hard in the Li Clan estates, Mother!" Gu Bao bragged, puffing his chest out to seek her praise, "I actively broke through to the Origin Realm, and grandfather gave me his blessings!"

"Even Great Elder Li said my cultivation talent has greatly improved, while my foundation is now comparable to the strongest cultivators in the Li Clan."

"Good," Madam Li nodded as she listened to him.

"Good?" Gu Bao was taken aback slightly by her response, ’Just good?’

"Mother, I even brought a massive supply of rare cultivation resources from the Li Clan elders!" Gu Bao tried to please her mother with even more good news, "And I even brought gifts for you!"

And saying so, his hands moved quickly and a jade box appeared in his palms. And then another appeared followed by three more.

"This is a Three-hundred-year Snow Ginseng!" Gu Bao opened the first box, "Snow Ginseng only grows in places rich in Ice and Yin Spiritual Qi. The older it becomes, the more Spiritual Qi it stores."

"A normal ten-year Snow Ginseng isn’t anything special, but once it crosses a hundred years, its value increases considerably."

He gently closed the jade box.

"This one has grown for three centuries. It can purify the meridians, suppress Fire Poison, and greatly benefit cultivators who practise Ice or Yin-attributed cultivation techniques."

The elders in the Hall when they heard Gu Bao describing the Snow Ginseng, their mouths turned watery with greed. They looked at the Snow Ginseng and gulped. Why does no one ever gift them such stuff?

But it was just the start as Gu bao quickly opened the second box.

"I also brought you the Phoenix Blood Jade!" Gu Bao told Madam Li gleefully.

It was a palm-sized piece of crimson jade. Golden threads slowly drifted within its translucent surface like tiny flames.

"Its name is somewhat misleading." Gu Bao explained, "Phoenix Blood Jade doesn’t really contain the blood of a true Phoenix."

"But Phoenix Blood Jade is found in places where Fire Spiritual Qi has accumulated for thousands of years," One of the Elders spoke up before gu bao could continue.

"Yes!" Another elder added, "According to ancient records, the best Phoenix Blood Jade is often found in lands once inhabited by powerful Phoenix-blooded beasts."

"Will you old men let me do the talking?" Gu Bao frowned as he looked at the elders, "I brought these gifts for my mother, if you don’t mind."

Hearing Gu Bao reprimand them, their faces turned purple with shame, but none of them could refute him.

Then Gu bao opened the third box

"Seven-Coloured Spirit Silk!" Gu Bao exclaimed with pride, "It is produced by Seven-Coloured Spirit Silkworms."

"Those little creatures are extremely particular. They only eat spiritual leaves and require an environment rich in Spiritual Qi to produce the Seven-Coloured Spirit Silk."

"A single Seven-Coloured Spirit Silkworm produces only about ten to fifteen Zhangs of Silk."

"Seven-Coloured Spirit Silk is extremely light, difficult to tear, and naturally conducts Spiritual Qi. Robes made from it can resist a portion of Spiritual Qi attacks." Gu Bao told Madam Li, explaining more about the Silk.

"But that is not all. Feed it Spiritual Qi, and minor damage will gradually repair itself." Gu Bao continued, "That’s why female cultivators are particularly fond of robes made from Seven-Coloured Spirit Silk."

As Gu Bao showed off the gifts, he continuously looked at his mother’s face for some reaction. But Madam Li remained expressionless throughout, her gaze uninterestingly looking at Gu Bao.

’What...?!’ Gu Bao was confused, ’Why is she looking at me like that?’

’By now mother should have been pinching my cheeks and praising me for a job well done.’

’But something feels off today.’

And while he was dwindling upon what was wrong with his mother, Madam Li just swooped in her palm and all the five boxes in his hands vanished.

Gu Bao looked at his mother, his eyes which were practically screaming ’Praise me,’ instantly turned into confusion.

But when he finally looked up at her face up close, his smile stiffened.

"Mother?" Gu Bao instinctively spoke up, "Mother, you look younger!"

And these words finally got a reaction from madam Li as she raised an eyebrow, "Do I?"

"Yes!" Gu Bao nodded, feeling a bit shy looking at her face, "You could easily put any woman in the Empire to shame."

Gu Yangtian’s mouth slowly opened, but Gu Bao continued, "Even the moon would hide behind the clouds after seeing Mother’s beauty!"

Madam Li stared at him. While Gu Yangtian stared at his wife and then at his son.

"Bao’er." He called out, but Gu Bao ignored him.

"Mother! Did something happen?" Gu bao asked curiously when a loud yawn suddenly came from the entrance.

"AAAAAHHH..."

The moment was broken by the yawn as Gu Bao stopped talking while everyone turned towards the source of the sound.

A young man slowly walked into the Audience Hall.

Black robes.

Messy hair.

One hand scratching the side of his neck.

"Heavens no one lets me sleep in peace," Gu Fan complained as he walked in and stopped beside Madam Li looking at her with a complaining face, "Mother! I think we need to hold back a little."
