BANG!

The heavy stone doors of the Matriarch’s private courtyard slammed open with a deafening force that startled a flock of spirit birds that immediately fled into the sky.

"WHERE IS SHE?!"

Gu Bao yelled his lungs out, marching inside like an angry bull that had just lost all sense of direction.

His expensive golden robes fluttered dramatically behind him, his boots crushed rare spiritual flowers beneath every step, his bloodshot eyes burning with pure, unadulterated madness because he absolutely could not process the terrifyingly absurd reality he had just witnessed.

His face was twisted into such an ugly expression that even the servants and maids hurriedly lowered their heads and pretended they didn’t exist.

But Gu Bao did not care. His brain was still refusing to accept what had happened inside the Audience Hall.

"...No."

"...Impossible."

"There has to be something wrong with everyone’s heads," Gu Bao felt dizzy in his head.

Whatever happened in the Audience Hall just now had left him bewildered. As he walked inside the Audience Hall, he had hoped every single elder to immediately drop to their knees and worship his grand return.

He anticipated his father to declare him the sole, undisputed heir without any doubt.

But instead of the worship and the fear, things ended up taking a complete U-turn.

And the arrival of Gu Fan only made things worse, turning humiliating for the Second Young Master.

Now only one person could explain this madness to him and she was right in front of him, his mother.

Madam Li calmly sat beneath the blooming peach tree, elegantly pouring herself another cup of Spirit Tea.

A faint blush still lingered on her beautiful cheeks as she remembered how Gu fan pinched her cheeks in front of all the elders.

’That rogue,’ Madam Li thought to himself.

And while her mind was occupied by Gu Fan’s thoughts, she didn’t even bother looking up at her son.

"Are you done making a scene? Have some tea and calm yourself down," Madam Li spoke up, not looking up from her cup.

"Mother?" Gu Bao froze when he saw the look of disinterest on his mother’s face, "Did you not see what happened?"

Madam Li took a sip of her tea and looked at him.

"You managed to scare a few birds, ruin my flowers and frighten a bunch of servants. Congratulations."

"Mother!" Gu Bao almost choked on his words as he looked at madam Li in horror, "What has happened to you?"

"What has happened to this clan in these three months?!"

"Why is Gu Fan still alive?"

"Why are the elders treating him like their ancestor? While I, your actual flesh and blood, am being treated like a common servant?!"

Gu bao looked at his mother, desperately seeking for the answers.

"You have asked four questions." Madam Li slowly placed her teacup down, "Unfortunately, I don’t feel like answering them."

"..." Gu Bao blinked at her words as his face twisted in fury as he roared, "MOTHER! You have to answer me."

Madam Li raised her eyebrow as her face remained completely devoid of any maternal warmth as she coldly stared directly at her screaming son.

"Lower your voice, Gu Bao," Madam Li commanded with a chilling, deeply authoritative tone that perfectly carried the heavy weight of her supreme Matriarch status, "You are screaming like a street thug. Sit down on the chair and act like a proper Young Master before I make you act like one."

"I will not sit down!" However Gu Bao refused right away, throwing his arms in defiance.

"I was gone for three months, only three months," Gu Bao looked at his mother as he spoke.

"I know. How many times are you going to repeat the same thing?" Madam Li asked annoyed, but Gu Bao did not care about the irritated look on her face. For him, only he mattered.

"I returned and broke through to the Origin Realm!" Gu Bao pointed his finger at his chest, aggressively poking himself, ""I expected congratulations! I expected respect! I expected a celebration!"

"But nobody even cared!" Gu Bao’s face twisted, but Madam Li’s next words made his eyes lit up.

"They did," Madam Li said.

"They cared enough to wonder why you were making so much noise."

"..."

"..."

"Why?!" His shoulders visibly slumped, "I don’t understand..."

Madam Li sighed.

"You never do."

"I don’t care!" Gu Bao immediately became angry again.

"I demand to know why that cripple is not dead yet?!" Gu Bao yelled right into his mother’s beautiful face, his eyes wide with crazy, unhinged desperation.

"And don’t tell me politics!"

"Don’t tell me strategy!"

"I don’t want excuses!"

"I want his head!"

"I went to the Li Clan to gather their support so we could actively take over the Patriarch’s seat from that old fool."

"I did my part," Gu Bao spoke gritting his teeth, "But you..."

"Leave it," Gu Bao shook his head, not letting his mother to respond, "We can still make it right. Order your guards to fetch his head right now, or I will absolutely do it myself!"

Madam Li’s beautiful face instantly darkened, her eyes flashing with dangerous killing intent towards her own son as her patience rapidly wore thin.

"I was right! You are still not ready," Madam Li looked at her son and without breaking eye contact told her son, "Still useless as ever."

"I had sent you away to my family precisely because you are reckless, stupid and a liability."

"All your life I made everything easy for you."

"You wanted something, you had it before you could ask again."

"But in return you remained that deadbeat son who was eager to ruin everything I built."

"I thought going to my family will broaden your horizons."

"Mother!" Gu Bao frowned, but Madam Li raised her finger.

"I was clearly wrong. But..." Madam Li’s eyes narrowed, "I will still give you whatever you want."

Gu Bao’s eyes gleamed as her words sounded like melody to him and the frown on his face turned into a smile.

"Mother!"

"But if anything happens to Gu fan..."

"And if I find you are behind it..."

Madam Li slowly stood up from her seat and looked Gu bao in the eye.

"I..."

"Will..."

"Kill..."

"You..."
