Chapter 76: The Culprits

The city’s walls were protected, but the monsters were much more agitated than usual, and that was terrible.

The guards did not know what was happening.

The consumption of crystals in a furnace generates residual mana energy, normal consumption for a city generates such low amounts of waste that no monster or person could perceive it, even so, all energy companies use mechanisms to consume the residual mana.

But consuming several months’ worth in a few hours was something that generated a lot of waste, the mechanisms could not consume the residual mana properly.

A person could feel slight dizziness and even nausea. But the monsters felt something different, and that made them act that way.

Remote areas had many monsters roaming freely and a lot of mana in the air, but the mana generated by burning the crystals was producing much more waste than normal, in addition to having a different purity, it was as if it were abundant food given for free.

A general was observing the movements of the monsters, he did not know exactly what had happened, but he knew it involved mana. He had experience with events like this.

He sat down in a chair and began sending a request for reinforcements, that was something bad, since the city did not have that many soldiers available that day.

"Maybe we will fight, so I want you to be prepared and know that the reinforcements may not arrive," he said while walking through the gates.

He used wind magic and killed some stronger monsters that were hitting the walls, his high level meant that he did not need to put in much effort when fighting some monsters. But depending on the monster, he would have a great disadvantage and might even need help.

He just stood there watching a horde of orcs eating the two monsters he had killed.

The scene was a little too grotesque for him, even though he was used to that hostile environment, scenes like this always caused disgust.

A guard came running and handed him a sheet of paper.

"If this report is correct, we can consider them responsible for any deaths," he said while making some notes in a notepad.

Haru quickly stood up and the three left the floor, they went to the lower floors and handed all the drops to Amanda, who quickly began counting them.

The amount of drops was enough money for a family to live several lives in great luxury, that was good and bad at the same time, since it would take many months, or years, to sell all the other drops.

Masaru was a little worried about this, but at the same time, he knew that this was something he would have to deal with sooner or later.

He used his gaze to see Haru’s level, but he could not see it, Haru’s name was always displayed, anyone with a class could look at his name, but not his level. For some reason, Haru was hiding it, he thought.

But it was not on purpose, Haru did not know how to turn it off or on.

Even without doing anything, the three of them were tired, they took a bath together and went to sleep.

All three slept in Mio’s bed, which was quite spacious.

Hina completely naked, her body kept rubbing against Haru’s body, Mio was also naked, even though she had pajamas there, she preferred to stay like Hina and rub against Haru.

She remembered that he owed her the betting round, but with the money she was going to receive, that was no longer a problem.

Masaru was awake, he was filling out a spreadsheet with all the items from the drops. He had scales to improve armor throughout the country, the best way to sell all the scales was by lowering their value.

’This is a problem,’ he thought while looking at a list of materials he needed to acquire.

He liked fighting, but fighting weak monsters was something he hated, since it only delayed his development and made him bored.

Clearing the higher floors was a very easy and quick task, but extremely boring.

Tsukishiro was reading the report again, the man with the hoarse voice was sitting in an armchair, he was silent.

Tsukishiro was a little nervous, the man was watching him with a judgmental look mixed with anger. The plan had gone wrong.

"You still haven’t figured out where you went wrong, have you?"

He knew that he had not made a mistake, one of the other two was hiding some information, but he did not know what it was.

"This isn’t a serious problem, since I will get a share of your company, but it is bad depending on the state your company is in."

The man said while looking seriously at Tsukishiro.

Tsukishiro wanted to kill the man, but he did not know how to do it, since many people knew that the man was there and his death would be investigated by many police officers. Since he had enough money to buy the entire police force.

He controlled himself as much as possible so as not to make any mistakes.

The man continued looking at him.

"I did not make any mistakes, someone is hiding some information, I don’t know who or what is being hidden, but none of my subordinates managed to find out. Probably your favorite is the one doing this."

"It could be, or it could be that you are also so useless that you don’t know who is behind the mistake. I thought you three were the right people, but I was wrong, which is quite rare."

The man stood up and went to the door, then left the company.

Tsukishiro slammed his fist on the table, the force caused a small crack in the wood, he was very angry with the man. But at the same time, he had many problems to worry about.

He called the energy company and offered some crystals.

Moriyama just laughed, he found it very funny that someone who was consuming so much energy wanted to sell crystals to him.

"We don’t need any crystals at the moment, our stock has many crystals, but as soon as our stock gets low, we will contact you," Moriyama said, controlling himself so as not to laugh.

’Their stock is full? This has to be a joke,’ he was furious.

He quickly left the company and went to Himura’s house.

"What are you hiding?"

Himura was shaken, he felt defeated, more than six hours had passed since what had been planned and there was still no blackout.

"What are you talking about?"

"You definitely know the cause of our failure, but for some reason you still want to keep the information hidden from me."

Himura was looking out the window, he sat down and looked at Tsukishiro’s face.

"I don’t believe any mistake happened on our part. What happened was that Shinozaki intervened, she discovered that a guild could still obtain some crystals, she wanted to cause some problems and that caused the guild to obtain many crystals, and Masaru paid his entire debt, with interest and everything.

Besides that, he created an event that caused him to end up with a large stock of crystals, so the company may have taken a little longer to lose its entire stock, but even so, these crystals cannot be responsible for all of this, the amount he obtained could provide energy for a few minutes considering our consumption. Maybe an hour at most.

But that’s an exaggeration, there is someone who discovered our plan and wants to ruin everything."

"If that’s true, we have to shut down all the machines," he said while trying to understand the whole situation.

"We would lose a lot of money, actually, we are losing it, all the millions we invested and what we still have to pay Moriyama. I don’t know if we could handle all of this."

Tsukishiro remained silent for a few minutes, he did not know what to say or think about the situation, but something came to mind after a while.

"Suzuki, he always liked you more than any other businessman in the city, what did he ask you for in exchange for the money?"

"He asked for 40% of the guild, Shinozaki refused to offer part of the bank. And what did you offer in exchange?"

"I didn’t offer much, only part of my alchemical stock."

"I think he got the short end of the stick, he could receive a guild full of debts and potions that may no longer be worth anything."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Think about the amount of crystals the company obtained, the stock is much larger than what I managed to buy, I couldn’t even keep five months’ worth of energy stored. So, we can consider that someone has a lot of drops to produce potions, can’t we?"

Tsukishiro nodded.

"So you agree that the chance of it being Masaru is zero?"

"I’m not entirely sure, but I rule out the possibility of it being him, if it is, something happened and that is beyond our control."

Kazuma could not obtain any new information, he was angry and at the same time afraid, Shinozaki still had not given up on the idea of discovering something that could be used against Himura.

He did not discover who had been the person who called her, the phone had encryption that prevented its location from being tracked.

This enraged Shinozaki.

She wanted to give up on the idea of the invasion, but some freelancers from the hidden market accepted the mission. She could not back down.
