How could Jamal Palmer not listen to what Gregory Bates said?
He immediately led a dozen people towards the entrance.
Caleb Ford still wanted to resist.
Received a silent signal from Dirk Carter.
Could only retreat quietly to the side.
It wasn't that Dirk Carter condoned it.
But in this situation, even if he intercepted Jamal Palmer, it would have no effect.
There were over a hundred people in the hall, and none of them would stand by his side. At crunch time, everyone was thinking not about justice, but about protecting their own interests.
The messy tables and chairs blocking the door were cleared away.
Then, Jamal Palmer personally unlocked the door.
With a clatter, the heavy door was pushed open by him.
As expected, the person who appeared before them was Dawson Sinclair, Deputy Mayor of Veridia City and Director of the Police Department.
"Director Dawson, thankfully you..."
Jamal Palmer sighed with relief, just about to say a few words.
Dawson Sinclair stepped aside.
Everyone's hopeful gaze instantly dimmed because the person walking in was not Dawson Sinclair, but Ezekiel Sawyer, the same Ezekiel Sawyer who had appeared on the camera earlier.
Ezekiel Sawyer stood at the doorway, hands behind his back.
Exchanged glances with Dirk Carter from a short distance away.
This time, he exuded an air of menace.
"Comrade Dirk Carter has taken leaders hostage, arrest him for me."
After a pause, Ezekiel Sawyer issued the command.
Four or five fully armed policemen stormed in, immediately detaining Dirk Carter.
As for Caleb Ford's people, they barely had time to move, because more police surged in, and the dark muzzles were already aimed at them.
Under everyone's gaze.
Ezekiel Sawyer slowly walked up to Dirk Carter.
Gently slapped his cheek twice.
Said, "Kid, you're still too naive, you're not qualified to fight me yet. Got any tricks left? Show me, let's see."
"You won't succeed."
Dirk Carter gritted his teeth and said.
"Hahaha..."
Another burst of signature laughter.
Ezekiel Sawyer said, "Really? Don't worry, I won't do anything to you. I'll make you witness the outcome you don't want to see, so you'll resign yourself willingly."
After saying this.
He leaned on the stage with one hand.
Leapt up.
Jumped onto the stage.
Retrieved the microphone from the podium, then tapped it to make sure it worked, pointed at Dirk Carter with a finger, and shouted, "This guy schemed something ill-intentioned, actually colluding with mobsters to kidnap Member Bohdan and the leaders. Unforgivable. Now Veridia Police Department will arrest him. Those unrelated, return to your posts immediately. Of course, until martial law is lifted, no one is allowed to leave the Municipal Committee Compound. Got it?"
This was a typical case of reversing black and white.
Who didn't know that the truly unforgivable one was Ezekiel Sawyer.
But with the current situation being overwhelmingly one-sided.
Who dared to stand up and say "no"?
Faint whispers filled the air.
As everyone privately discussed what to do next.
Bam bam bam!
With a pistol in hand, Ezekiel Sawyer fired three shots into the ceiling.
The scene instantly quieted down.
Ezekiel Sawyer smiled and said, "I'll count to ten. If you still don't leave, don't blame me for being ruthless."
As soon as he said this.
Ezekiel Sawyer immediately shouted, "Ten..."
Once counting began.
A lot of people rushed out like a swarm.
By the time he counted to "five," only half of the people were left in the hall.
After a few seconds of internal struggle.
More people rose to leave.
At this point, Gregory Bates and Jamal Palmer were also gearing up to follow the crowd out.
But they were stopped by Dawson Sinclair at the door.
Just as Gregory Bates was about to argue.
Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
Turning his head, he was startled; Ezekiel Sawyer had somehow gotten close.
"Secretary Bates, you're a leader, I must ensure your safety."
"No...no need, thank you for your kind offer, Mayor Sawyer."
Gregory Bates waved his hand, declining.
Ezekiel Sawyer gave a sinister smile.
Applied pressure with his hand.
Said, "It's my duty, Secretary Bates, don't be modest."
And just like that, Gregory Bates was pushed back into the hall.
The hall that once held over a hundred people.
Now was nearly empty.
Only a few high-ranking leaders remained.
Not because they didn't want to leave, but because Ezekiel Sawyer had no intention of allowing them to.
Now Gregory Bates realized his regret.
If he hadn't forced Jamal Palmer to open the door, perhaps everything wouldn't have turned out so dire.
His heart was filled with frustration, yet it would change nothing.
Having gained control of the situation.
Ezekiel Sawyer took a small box from his subordinate.
Placed the box in front of Bohdan Sherwood, popped it open with a click, revealing a bottle inside.
Inside the bottle were a few pills.
Ezekiel Sawyer extracted the bottle, placed it before Bohdan Sherwood, and said, "Member Bohdan, since you're already aware of everything, I won't bother explaining. Let's begin. Swallow the pills and everything will be fine."
Staring at the bottle.
Those around became ashen-faced with fear.
Yet in this situation, no one dared step forward to stop it.
Because Anton Lewis was a precedent.
He was the first to rush out to protect Bohdan Sherwood but was directly struck by Dawson Sinclair, a gun butt smashing onto his head, causing blood to flow from his forehead.
After falling to the ground, Dawson Sinclair kicked him several more times. Now, other than moaning, he could do nothing else.
Bohdan Sherwood still appeared composed.
He stared at the bottle for a while.
Lifted his head and said, "Where is Jethro Houseman? Where is he hiding? I want to see him."
"Member Bohdan, things have reached this stage. Seeing him won't change anything. You'd best eat the pills, save me the trouble."
Ezekiel Sawyer replied.
Upon hearing this.
Bohdan Sherwood chuckled, saying, "Jethro Houseman truly is a coward, afraid to show himself."
Then.
He picked up the bottle.
"Member Bohdan, don't! Don't!"
Seeing this, Dirk Carter shouted in terror.
Ezekiel Sawyer didn't glance his way, simply snapped his fingers in Dirk Carter's direction.
A smothered sound was heard.
One of his subordinates delivered a powerful punch to Dirk Carter's abdomen.
With that punch.
Dirk Carter grimaced in pain, drawing in deep breaths to dull the anguish.
Despite this.
He still forced himself upright.
Shouted at Ezekiel Sawyer, "Ezekiel Sawyer, you fool, you're so incredibly stupid. If you harm Member Bohdan, you'll be the scapegoat, understand? Jethro Houseman isn't showing himself because he wants you to succeed, then blame everything on you..."
