A Farmer's Journey To Immortality
Chapter 843: True Might of Intent-based SpellcastingThe deeper reason behind the subcontinent’s change in fate was something almost nobody here knew, but the bewitching beauty did.
The Dao Paths of this land had been sealed long ago. The sealed Dao Paths meant there was no way to advance beyond the Core Formation Realm, no matter what kind of talent the Lords of this land possessed.
These Dao Paths also affected the Spirit essence of the subcontinent, making it not cross a certain threshold.
The bewitching woman was not entirely sure about the intel, considering it was as old as the era of the Mad Immortal. However, she had been told that the culprit behind that sealing was the Dao Beast Seralyth.
That ancient existence had hidden herself within the forbidden grounds of the once-powerful Heavenly Poison Sect and deliberately suppressed the natural Dao circulation of the entire region in order to preserve her own life.
This Dao Beast used these sealed paths as a life support to wait for someone or something. Perhaps to find a worthy inheritor who could take her inheritance and avenge her by targeting the Mad Immortal when they became strong enough.
As a result of her pursuit for revenge that carried a somewhat same blend of madness as that of the Mad Immortal, the entire subcontinent had remained crippled for centuries. Its cultivation civilization had been trapped in stagnation.
Then everything changed.
Someone had clearly interfered.
By freeing Seralyth in one way or the other, this person had unknowingly caused something enormous to happen.
Seralyth had released the suppressed Dao Paths, and the curse binding this entire land had disappeared.
The effects had already begun.
Spirit essence all across the Dadangar Subcontinent was rising. The quality of natural energy was improving rapidly.
Cultivation barriers that had existed for centuries were beginning to weaken. This land was finally synchronizing with the rest of the Dadangar World.
It was like a massive river held back by a dam for hundreds of years.
And suddenly—
The dam had broken. The water had begun rushing freely again.
The massive change that was about to arrive on this land did not simply mean that the subcontinent would revert to what it had been before the Mad Immortal’s arrival in the distant past.
It meant something much bigger.
The near-stagnant water was bound to surge like an unstoppable current right after freeing itself before reaching equilibrium.
Meaning, this sudden transformation would turn the entire subcontinent into a cultivation paradise for Spirit cultivators for quite some time, even for Spirit cultivators coming from the Shinayin Empire.
For a considerable period of time, this land was going to produce Spirit Veins that probably could almost rival the potency of those found in the Eternal Sea.
This was huge.
Those bigshots from the Shinayin Empire who either did not dare or lacked the opportunity to travel to and settle in the Eternal Sea could instead come here and establish themselves.
Even when the paradise-like environment of this subcontinent were to diminish in the future, it could still become as fruitful as the rest of the Dadangar World was, no longer as barren as before. And even if the potency of the Spirit flow were to decrease in the future, that was still an issue in the distant future.
Most people living in the Dadangar Subcontinent had not yet noticed the changes that were about to arrive. And even if they had, they could not understand their true significance.
But how could the powerful forces of the Shinayin Empire fail to notice something this massive?
For them, this land had suddenly become something precious.
An untouched treasure.
A growing cultivation land with enormous near future potential.
A heavenly sweet pie with no true owner.
And everyone knew one simple truth.
The early birds got everything.
That was why the Shinayin Empire had finally responded when the royal faction secretly requested assistance. They had wasted no time. Several Core Formation Lords had already been dispatched.
This bewitching beauty Lord was one of them.
***
The Purple River Lord had been about to say something in response to her earlier words.
But before he could—
She moved. There was no warning. No Mudra-casting, no Mantra or Tantra application. There was simply no visible preparation.
Even if it was supposed to be a Lord’s Innate Spirit Spell that usually bypassed these actions, it still felt like there was something different about this school of Innate Spirit Spells that wasn’t known in the subcontinent.
A small flame suddenly appeared above the woman’s right palm as easily as someone receiving a drop of water in their palm while standing in the midst of rain.
At first glance, this tiny flame looked harmless. Almost delicate.
Then—
Boom.
The flame exploded outward into a massive wave of crimson fire that instantly covered the night sky.
The surrounding temperature rose so suddenly that even the moisture in the air evaporated.
The Purple River Lord’s pupils shrank.
Too fast.
Far too fast.
Without hesitation, he reacted immediately.
His hands moved in a complex series of seals. Even though he could cast his Innate Spirit Spell without the need for Mudras and Mantras, he still made use of them in quick succession to enhance his Innate Spirit Spells.
Dense blue spirit essence erupted around him.
Water gathered from the moisture in the atmosphere and condensed into dozens of spinning water blades.
At the same time, faint purple poison mixed into the water.
The entire attack began radiating a dangerous toxic aura.
"Purple River Art: Venom Tide."
With a sharp wave of his sleeve—
The poisoned water blades shot forward. They collided directly with the incoming wall of fire.
Boom.
A violent shockwave exploded in the sky.
The forest below trembled violently.
Several weaker Spirit Gathering cultivators from both sides were knocked off their feet by the pressure alone.
The Purple River Lord narrowed his eyes.
He had blocked it.
But then—
Something felt wrong. His expression changed.
The woman was still smiling. As if nothing had happened.
Then he understood.
No.
That wasn’t one attack. The fire wave suddenly split apart.
One became three.
Three became seven.
Seven became dozens.
His eyes widened in disbelief. It looked as though she had cast the same Innate Spirit Spell repeatedly within the same instant.
Layer upon layer.
Each flame attack stacked over the previous one.
Each stronger than the last.
"How—"
He didn’t finish. The fire attacks crashed into him all at once.
Boom.
His water defense shattered instantly. The poisonous water dispersed like mist.
The Purple River Lord flew backward violently through the air. Blood sprayed from his mouth.
His chest burned painfully. He quickly regained control.
One setback was nothing. The Purple River Lord still tried to keep his emotions in check. With no hesitation, he immediately pulled out a silver talisman.
Crack.
The talisman shattered.
A glowing blue shield formed around him.
At the same time, he swallowed a precious recovery potion. Spirit essence surged through his body once again.
Without wasting time, he launched another attack. This time, several poisoned water serpents formed behind him.
They lunged toward the woman from multiple directions. She looked bored. Almost disappointed.
Then she casually raised one finger.
Snap.
The air itself exploded.
A ring of scarlet fire spread outward from her body. The incoming water serpents evaporated instantly.
Not burned. Not destroyed. Just evaporated. As though they had never existed.
The Purple River Lord stared blankly.
Impossible.
Both of them were late-stage Core Formation Lords.
So why...
Why did the difference feel this overwhelming?
’I... I can’t back down just like that. I will bet everything I have. I refuse to believe I can’t even injure this ugly who*re.’
He gritted his teeth, cursed the woman in his head, and immediately activated another artifact. A bronze mirror floated before him. It released dozens of protective light barriers around his body.
Then he drank another potion.
Then another.
His spirit essence surged wildly. He launched attack after attack.
From poison arrows to water blades. From Spirit spears to toxic clouds. From multi-layered formations to talismans. And from artifacts to even forbidden life-essence-consuming techniques.
The Purple River Lord everything he had, displaying his steady accumulation as the sect leader of one of the strongest sects in the subcontinent.
And yet, nothing worked.
The woman simply moved through all of it effortlessly.
Every time she cast a fire spell, it felt absurd by the standards set among the existing Lords of the subcontinent.
The Purple River Lord finally understood what had been bothering him.
She was not purposely casting stronger spells or amplifying their effects through various means. She was casting her Innate Spirit Spells in their original forms, and that too while controlling their output instead of going all out like the Purple River Lord.
And yet, it felt as if she was stacking the same spell multiple times together.
One spell carried the force of many. The compression. The density. The control. The raw destructive power. It completely surpassed his understanding.
If Aksai was here at this moment, he would have easily recognized that the bewitching beauty Lord was making use of intent-based spellcasting to amplify the might of her Innate Spirit Spells.
After all, he too had some proficiency in it.
However, even he could not amplify his Spirit Spells to such a degree.
There was something fundamentally different between the way this woman used intent-based spellcasting and the way Aksai had learned to use it on his own.
Compared to her, Aksai’s intent-based spellcasting was nothing but child’s play.
It was as if Aksai had just learned how to add two plus two while the woman was solving differential equations.
Such was the gap between their mastery of intent-based spellcasting.
