A Farmer's Journey To Immortality

Chapter 844: Descent of the Nascent Soul Presence

While the bewitching beauty could spare to think about various things at leisure, her opponent could not.

The Purple River Lord’s breathing became heavy. Cold sweat ran down his face. At that moment, a terrifying realization struck him. His entire body froze.

She could have killed me already.

The thought entered his mind like a blade.

Every attack she had launched until this point had been held back.

Or rather...

She had been playing with him, watching him desperately use every treasure he possessed like a cat playing with a dying mouse.

Something inside him cracked.

His fighting spirit, confidence, and pride as a Lord began collapsing.

Barely thirty seconds had passed since the woman had taken action against the Purple River Lord.

Half a minute.

And yet, the Purple River Lord looked as if he had fought for hours. His face had turned pale. His breathing became unstable.

The backlash from the precious potions he had consumed finally began surfacing. His meridians burned painfully, and his organs twisted. Thin lines of blood slowly trickled down from both corners of his mouth.

Yet, he did not react.

His arms hung loosely by his sides. His eyes had lost focus.

He no longer looked like a powerful Lord.

He looked like a man who had witnessed something beyond his understanding and had been completely crushed by it.

Across from him, the beautiful woman floated calmly. Her crimson robes moved gently in the night wind. Her lips curled upward slightly.

She looked at him with open disappointment. Then she sighed softly.

"Pathetic."

The single word struck harder than all her previous attacks combined. The Purple River Lord said nothing. His will to fight had already shattered.

For the first time in his life, he understood true despair.

’Well... time to wrap this up.’

The woman thought as she understood what her opponent was going through. She lost interest in her prey when it stopped struggling.

There was no point dragging this out any longer.

The Purple River Lord’s will had already broken. Killing him now would merely be the final step.

She slowly raised her right hand.

A crimson flame gathered above her palm.

The surrounding air immediately became distorted. Heat spread across the night sky as the fire spirit essence condensed into a spear several meters long.

The Purple River Lord looked at the approaching attack without moving. He knew he could no longer stop it. The difference between them was simply too great.

Just as the woman prepared to launch the final strike—

Boom.

A terrifying pressure suddenly descended upon the entire battlefield.

It came without warning.

It did not explode.

It simply appeared.

Yet the moment it arrived, the world seemed to become several times heavier.

The air froze.

The spirit essence in the surroundings instantly became sluggish.

The countless Spirit Gathering cultivators below widened their eyes in terror.

Before they could even understand what was happening—

Bang.

Bang.

Bang.

One after another, they were forced onto their knees.

Many could not even remain conscious. Some vomited blood immediately. Others collapsed face-first onto the ground.

Even those who managed to stay awake found themselves unable to move a single finger. Their bodies no longer obeyed them.

The Foundation Establishment experts fared only slightly better.

The dozens of cultivators fighting in the air suddenly lost control over their flight techniques.

Swoosh. Zoom. Pachook.

One after another, they fell from the sky like birds whose wings had suddenly been cut off.

Some crashed through tree branches. Others landed heavily upon broken rocks.

The sounds of impact echoed throughout the forest.

Even the battle itself came to an abrupt stop.

Nobody dared move anymore.

High above them—

The two Core Formation Lords also felt the overwhelming pressure.

The Purple River Lord’s pupils shrank.

His flying artifact trembled beneath his feet.

Even maintaining his position in the sky became difficult. His body felt as though an invisible mountain had been placed upon his shoulders.

Across from him, the bewitching beauty experienced the same thing.

The fire spear she had prepared shattered into countless sparks before disappearing completely.

Her breathing became heavy.

For the first time since arriving in the Dadangar Subcontinent—

Fear appeared in her eyes.

Then...

A figure slowly appeared above both of them.

He stood hundreds of meters higher than the Lords’ battlefield.

Wrapped completely inside a dark cloak. His face could not be seen. His hands remained hidden inside his sleeves.

He simply stood there quietly. Yet his mere presence suppressed everyone below.

Silence filled the battlefield. Nobody dared breathe too loudly.

The bewitching beauty’s mind immediately began racing.

Impossible.

How could there be a Nascent Soul King here?

Her superiors had personally assured her before she left the Shinayin Empire.

There were no Kings in the Dadangar Subcontinent.

Not a single one.

Otherwise, they would never have sent only Core Formation Lords for this mission.

Could he be...

Her thoughts rapidly shifted.

Not from this subcontinent.

He had to be an outsider.

Someone from another faction within the Shinayin Empire.

Her heart slowly calmed.

Yes.

That was the only explanation.

Recently, the Dao Paths of the Dadangar Subcontinent had reopened.

Everyone in the Shinayin Empire knew this land would soon become extremely valuable. Naturally, her faction was not the only one interested.

Other factions would certainly send people as well. Perhaps this King had been dispatched by one of those rival factions.

The more she thought about it, the more reasonable it sounded.

Her superiors had also mentioned that there was a short period during which the situation in the Dadangar Subcontinent could not be monitored perfectly.

Could someone have broken through during that time?

No.

She quickly rejected the idea.

Even if someone had somehow advanced to the Nascent Soul realm immediately after the Dao Paths were released, their foundation would still be unstable.

Their aura would fluctuate. Their spirit essence would remain difficult to control for quite some time.

But this pressure...

It was stable and calm. As if it was a silent sea that had hidden its depths. It carried none of the instability of a recent breakthrough.

This King had clearly remained in the Nascent Soul realm for a long time.

That meant only one thing.

He was from the Shinayin Empire.

Just not from her faction.

The realization frightened her.

Yet strangely...

It also reassured her. She slowly lowered her gaze. Her hands remained still.

She did not dare attack. But neither did she panic.

Her life should not be in danger.

The factions of the Shinayin Empire had long ago reached an understanding regarding the Dadangar Subcontinent.

This land was meant to become a resource-producing territory. Not another battlefield for the factions themselves.

Direct conflicts between Kings and Lords of different factions were forbidden unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise, everyone would suffer unnecessary losses.

That would only weaken their own forces before they could fully control this newly awakened land.

There would certainly be competition in the future.

Spirit Gathering disciples and Foundation Establishment experts might clash over territories, Spirit Veins, mines, and more.

But such conflicts would follow certain rules.

The weaker cultivators would become the pieces used to settle those disputes.

Lords would not be involved in deaths feuds.

As for Kings... They were out of the whole equation.

Kings were never supposed to bully each other’s juniors.

That was an unwritten agreement shared by every major faction in the Shinayin Empire.

If one King ignored that agreement today, others would do the same tomorrow. Eventually, every faction would begin hunting the younger generation of their rivals.

Such chaos would destroy the balance that had existed in the Shinayin Empire for countless years.

No major faction wanted that.

Most importantly, this was only the start of the conquest. The Shinayin Empire itself hadn’t taken any action. It was only the factions that were taking individual actions. This subcontinent didn’t even have Nascent Soul Kings.

There were only a few 4th Order demon beasts hidden within the depths of the Eternal Beast Dynasty. Only those demon beasts needed to be taken care of by the Kings for easier access to this subcontinent.

But the beast culling was supposed to not start at this point. There was still some time before a full-fledged conquest.

This was the time of strategy-based advancements and various political plots among the various factions. It was supposed to serve as a whetstone for younger generation talents of the Shinayin Empire.

As such, the bewitching beauty slowly took a deep breath.

She kept her head lowered. She remained completely motionless. In her heart, she had already accepted defeat in tonight’s operation.

The Purple River Sect would most likely fall under another faction’s control instead of hers.

It was unfortunate but acceptable.

As long as she returned alive, her mission could simply be reported as having encountered a rival King’s interference.

No one would blame her for retreating before a Nascent Soul King.

Not when the difference between a Lord and a King was as vast as the distance between heaven and earth.

While the bewitching beauty Lord was frozen in fear, the Purple River Lord felt a surge of anger bubbling inside him.

He thought the enemy had actually sent a Nascent Soul King to deal with him and his sect members.

Was this hateful woman not enough?

Why did they have to involve a Nascent Soul King in this battle, a presence that this subcontinent had not seen for a very long time?

Was this not outright bullying of the natives of this subcontinent? Who did these foreign cultivators think they were?

Did they really have to use a heavenly sword to kill a small fly?

Death was death.

Whether it came at the hands of the bewitching woman or this newly arrived King made little difference to the Purple River Lord.

As such, he actually became fearless in the cloaked King’s presence.

He was about to curse the King with every filthy insult he had learned and perfected throughout his long life.

But before he could utter a single word, he received a secret voice transmission from the cloaked man.

’Old Purple Lord, before you start cursing my mother with that foul mouth of yours, how about asking your sect members to retreat far away from this place?’
