The moment Kalina emptied almost everything inside her storage ring before Aksai...

She had unknowingly handed over the greatest weapon capable of breaking the current siege.

Had she known the truth, she would never have done something so foolish.

It was better for her Natal Artifact to get affected by the pill toxin’s impurities than it being lost by her. After all, the impurities could have been eliminated provided enough time and resources were available. It was just more work.

For a brief instant, regret flashed through Kalina’s heart.

All of this had begun because she wanted to pressure the Kainaat by dragging his reputation down and bringing Great Elder Runiye’s faction into the matter.

She had hoped to place political pressure upon him. Instead, she had personally handed her belongings to a shameless thief.

A thief who cared nothing about reputation.

Nothing about dignity.

Nothing about the pride expected from powerful cultivators.

Aksai was completely different from any capable Lord of his caliber she had ever heard about.

He lied without hesitation. He deceived without guilt. He used every trick available as long as it increased his chances of winning.

Even though Aksai’s soul had transmigrated and he had indeed adopted this world’s customs, his nature as a mortal who would do anything to survive from his past life had remained with him. He didn’t even have the inhibitions that even the demonic cultivators set as their bottom line.

Kalina took a deep breath and quickly buried those thoughts.

She was not someone who wasted time blaming herself for mistakes that had already happened.

Regret solved nothing. Only survival mattered now.

Her breathing gradually steadied. The panic inside her heart slowly disappeared.

She immediately changed her strategy.

If close combat favored Aksai’s traps, then she would fight from a distance. Even without her Natal Sword, her Connate Spells remained superior. As long as she maintained enough separation, she believed she could gradually suppress him.

At the same time, her attention remained fixed upon Aksai’s mysterious spatial treasure. That unknown artifact troubled her mind more than anything else.

So far, Aksai had only used it to steal her possessions and summon the Sentient Fiends. It had shown no offensive abilities whatsoever. But that did not mean such abilities did not exist.

Unknown treasures were always the most dangerous. That uncertainty had already delayed her reactions earlier.

Even now...

She did not dare recklessly charge toward Aksai.

She would rather spend more time observing than fall into yet another hidden trap prepared by this deceitful native cultivator.

’No time to second guess. My first priority should be to get out of this prison.’

Kalina took a deep breath.

Then she flew away from Aksai once again.

She deliberately kept as much distance from him as possible before stopping near one side of the Vine Barrier.

Her sharp eyes carefully observed the countless barbed vines blocking her path.

She did not even spare Aksai another glance. She assumed that if her Spirit Sense was of no use to her inside the domain, Aksai would not magically be able to use his as well. Such restricting domains were dual-edge swords. As long as she made use of the domain’s restrictions to work in her favour, she would be safe.

Plus, since Aksai had not rushed toward her, she would not rush toward him either. It would solve nothing and only add to her troubles. Unless absolutely necessary, she wouldn’t engage with Aksai. At least not until she found her way out.

Earlier, she had intended to launch a probing attack against him. She wanted to test his real combat strength.

However, that idea no longer had any meaning.

She was trapped.

What was the point of knowing whether Aksai was weaker or stronger if she remained locked inside this poisonous cage?

Even if her probe confirmed that Aksai was much weaker than her, she would still suffer. As long as he continued hiding behind his barrier and stretching the battle, the poison fog would keep accumulating around her.

Sooner or later, her condition would worsen. She rightfully assumed that was what Aksai wanted from her all along. He wanted her to waste time on attacking him so that this poison mist would keep on accumulating. With more time, she would be weakened further and he would finally gain his long-awaited advantage on her.

On the other hand, if Aksai somehow turned out to possess strength equal to hers...

Or perhaps even greater...

Then remaining inside this enclosed battlefield would only place her in an even worse situation.

Unbeknownst to her, Kalina had subconsciously started seeing Aksai as not someone from the subcontinent. She stopped looking down on him. His logic-defying Mudra-casting abilities were nothing short of a wake up call for her.

Thus, no matter how she looked at it, breaking out came first. Everything else could wait.

She silently made her decision. Destroy the barrier. Escape. Then and only then fight Aksai head-on under open skies.

Only then would she regain the initiative.

As for Aksai...

She decided to answer his strategy with her own.

If he wanted to drag the battle out, she would do the same but in a different way. Instead of dealing with him, she would blast away the barrier. There was no reason to recklessly attack him while standing inside his carefully prepared battlefield.

Meanwhile, the poison fog continued growing thicker.

Kalina calmly circulated a special technique within her body.

Tiny streams of Spirit Essence flowed through her meridians before covering every part of her body.

This was one of her faction’s secret techniques. A poison resistance art. It greatly reduced the effects of most Third Order poisons.

The poisonous fog still invaded her protective Spirit Essence barrier. However, its effects became much weaker.

Kalina could already estimate the results. Even if the poison continued accumulating, her combat strength would not fall below eighty percent for quite some time.

That was enough.

She only needed enough time to break free.

Her eyes once again settled upon the Vine Barrier.

Earlier, she had already attacked it once. Although the opening she created had closed almost immediately, she had learned something very important.

The vines regenerated. But their recovery speed was not limitless.

As long as her destructive power exceeded their recovery speed, the barrier would eventually collapse.

A faint smile slowly appeared on her lips.

’I can break it.’

The confidence inside her heart returned. She slowly raised one hand. Bright crimson flames quietly gathered around her fingertips.

Unlike before...

She had no intention of holding back.

The Connate Spell circulating inside her Spirit Essence Core became increasingly unstable.

At the same time...

She reached deeper into her True Meaning. Much deeper than before. Her soul immediately trembled. Sharp pain spread through her consciousness.

Blood slowly trickled from the corner of her lips. Yet, she did not stop.

Normally, a cultivator only used the portion of True Meaning they had fully refined.

Forcefully drawing out deeper layers before mastering them placed tremendous strain upon both the soul and the Spirit Essence Core.

It was dangerous.

A single mistake could leave permanent injuries. But Kalina no longer cared.

A few soul injuries were nothing compared to remaining trapped inside this poisonous prison.

Her True Meaning became increasingly fierce. The crimson flames surrounding her hand gradually changed. Their color deepened. Their heat rose sharply.

Even the surrounding poisonous mist was pushed away by the terrifying heat. The Spirit Essence fluctuations became more and more violent.

She planned to create a single overwhelming attack. An attack powerful enough to tear open a passage through the Vine Barrier.

Just one opening. That was all she needed.

Once outside, she would make Aksai pay for every treasure he had stolen.

For every lie he had spoken. For every humiliation he had forced upon her tonight.

Her eyes shone with murderous intent. She quietly completed the final preparations for her strongest attack.

Unfortunately, the battlefield she stood inside did not belong to her. It belonged to Aksai.

This entire Vine Barrier was no different from a Third Order Devil’s Den created specifically for hunting prey. How could its owner simply stand by and watch his prey calmly prepare its escape?

Long before Kalina finished gathering her power, Aksai had already noticed every fluctuation of her Spirit Essence through the countless vines surrounding the battlefield.

The vines were not merely walls. They were his eyes and ears. Everything inside the barrier was quietly relayed back to him. Even though his Spirit Sense was hindered inside the domain just like Kalina had predicted, he could still sense a lot more than his opponent.

Plus, Aksai had Qi Sense and Aether Sense at his disposal as well. This was why he had dared to lock himself up inside the Devil’s Den with a Lord who was a lot stronger than him.

The moment Kalina chose to remain still and gather power, she had unknowingly given Aksai exactly what he wanted.

Time.

And Aksai never wasted time.
