The endless white-gray fog slowly parted and a figure walked out of it.
Aksai appeared only after he was certain that both of them were dead.
He moved without hurry, his expression calm as his eyes swept across the battlefield.
The first thing he saw was the body of the Sun Ocean Lord.
The old Lord was still standing.
Or what remained of him was.
His head had been crushed by Droven’s shield, leaving behind a bloody mess of flesh and broken bones. His body had remained upright due to the fact the Demon Vine that pierced his abdomen acted as a support.
In fact, even Droven’s lifeless body was still in standing position because of the Demon Vine that pierced his heart. Blood had soaked his armor, and his massive shield was still held in his hand.
Aksai stopped.
He looked at them for several breaths.
Then he closed his eyes.
His Spirit Sense spread through the battlefield one final time.
The paranoid farmer in him checked the Sun Ocean Lord once again to double confirm.
Dead.
He checked Droven.
Dead.
He checked their souls.
Neither remained.
Only then did Aksai relax slightly.
"Both are dead for good. Now.... only one nuisance remains."
His voice was calm.
There was no excitement or sadness on his face. He had no emotions to spare, especially for the Sun Ocean Lord.
Aksai walked toward the old Lord’s corpse.
He looked down at him.
For a moment, the image of an old man with a proud face flashed through his mind.
The Sun Ocean Lord had lived for centuries.
He had survived countless dangers and had climbed all the way to the Core Formation Realm. He had gathered treasures, ran the Sun Ocean Society, built connections, and gained to-brass power within the subcontinent.
And yet, in the end, he had died because he had tried to use everyone around him.
Aksai had never liked this man. In fact, he had very little respect for him.
The Sun Ocean Lord was not like the Purple River Lord.
The Purple River Lord was also a Lord who sat at the high table of this subcontinent. He had his own interests and his own pride. But he still valued bonds. He respected certain lines that shouldn’t be crossed. If someone treated him with sincerity, he would at least remember it.
The Sun Ocean Lord was different. He had no such limits.
He respected people above him and looked down on people below him. He would bow his head to someone stronger while treating weaker cultivators as tools.
To him, everything had a price.
Aksai’s eyes became slightly colder as he remembered the incident that almost got him killed, which was indirectly caused by the Sun Ocean Lord’s greed.
’You made use of your own daughter to further your interests. Now don’t blame me for using you the same way, for mine.’
He remembered Siya Solaris.
Decades ago, the Sun Ocean Lord had sent his own daughter into the Wild Devil Lands.
On the surface, it looked like a simple mission.
Siya herself had believed it was a mission and a way to temper herself. She had no idea what her father was really planning.
The Sun Ocean Lord knew exactly what would happen.
He knew that the demonic sects would likely capture Siya. He knew that her presence could create a situation that would give him a reason to enter the Wild Devil Lands.
And he had still sent her without worrying about what would happen to her. All for his own benefit.
Of course, Aksai didn’t care whether the Sun Ocean Lord killed his children or used them as bargaining chips. But his own neck was going to be cut because of him as a result. It was only because he was smart enough to avoid the death traps that he was alive.
Aksai still remembered the situation clearly. At that time, he had not been strong enough to confront the Sun Ocean Lord directly.
Even if he had understood the old man’s plan, what could he have done?
The Wild Devil Lands were controlled by powerful demonic sects.
Aksai hadn’t been strong enough to fight them.
He hadn’t even dared to openly oppose them.
So he had come up with another solution.
Siya Solaris would marry Haitin Blackblood, the heir apparent of the Blackblood Sect.
It had been a simple move.
But it had changed everything.
The marriage gave the Sun Ocean Lord the excuse he needed.
He could enter the Wild Devil Lands under the banner of his daughter’s marriage.
From there, he became the first Core Formation Lord from the righteous faction to enter and explore the Holy Land Torel within the territory jointly controlled by the demonic sects.
And the Sun Ocean Lord had gained plenty from that trip. Even a few of the treasures that he had used in his fight against Droven originated from the Holy Land Torel.
Aksai slowly shook his head as he thought of Siya, who would have died if it weren’t for him. And the worst part was that she hadn’t even known she was being used.
The Sun Ocean Lord didn’t have any bottom line. As such, Aksai had dealt with him using his own logic as well.
However, seeing him dead still felt like he was closing a big Chapter in his life. He just wished that Haitin Blackblood wouldn’t hold it against him for killing his father-in-law.
Then again, knowing Haitin, Aksai was kind of sure that the man would even throw a big feast if he came to know about the Sun Ocean Lord’s death.
After all, the Sun Ocean Lord had also made Haitin and his sect do a lot of unpaid work and taken even more freebies under the excuse of being their in-law.
Thinking about this, Aksai smiled and shook his head before turning his attention toward Droven.
Compared to the Sun Ocean Lord, causing Droven’s death had been much more challenging.
