One had to know that the Devil’s Den formation was still functioning normally, hindering one’s Spirit Sense.

However, a Sword Intent wasn’t something that could be completely isolated by Aksai’s formation. Recognized as the bane of formations, a potent enough Sword Intent could shatter thousand formations in a single strike.

Of course, the Sword Intent released by Aksai borrowing Kalina’s Bright Scarlet Blaze didn’t have such power. In fact, even a true sword cultivator like Varesh was far from achieving such a profound realm in his sword cultivation.

However, since Aksai’s Devil’s Den lacked the means to employ many Intent-based techniques including Intent Isolation technique, it could not prevent a Sword Intent from resonating outside the formation.

Furthermore, Varesh was no ordinary late-stage Lord. He was a true sword cultivator with a genuine sword cultivation technique.

He had cultivated Sword Sense, Sword Body, Sword Mind, and Sword Heart. Anything related to swords in his vicinity could be distinctly sensed by him through his special sword cultivation technique.

The combined effect of such a form of cultivation wasn’t something Aksai could override with his tricks.

Even though Varesh couldn’t completely figure out what Aksai was doing at this point, he could roughly guess what was happening.

’Hmph! No matter what tricks this guy has, once he comes in front of me, I’ll chop off all four of his limbs, put a leash on his soul, and make him talk. Once I am done with him, I’ll take control of this whole island,’ Varesh thought to himself.

The other three imperial cultivators had done their best to exert their maximum potential in order to break the formation and escape. However, Varesh was different. He was doing the opposite, controlling his attacks in such a way that they would not cause irreplaceable damage to Emerald Cove Island and its formation.

At first, he had indeed acted as if he wanted to get out of the isolating layer as soon as he could. But the more time he spent inside the formation, the more fascinated he became by the depth of the formation as well as the island.

As such, he had decided not to completely destroy the island formation so that it could be used later after he took ownership of it.

That’s right. Varesh had already started thinking as if this island were his property. He knew his attacks and Intent would only grow fiercer with the passing of time. Why should he destroy a piece of land that was bound to come under his rule?

As such, he abandoned his previous style and adopted a calmer stance, intending only to prolong the battle so that the formation master would be forced to show himself because of overexerting himself and his Spirit Sense through the formation.

This was a simple but straightforward strategy with no drawbacks for Varesh. No matter how much time was allowed to the island master, his preparations wouldn’t be enough to deal with him.

And this was not Varesh being overconfident in his abilities. Not really. It was a true sword cultivator’s standard response to anyone who was not. Within the same realm, no non-sword cultivator could defeat a true sword cultivator. And from the feeling Varesh had got after observing the formation, the formation master was still a mid-stage native Lord.

In this case, the realm suppression from an imperial cultivator on a native Lord alone would normally be enough for Varesh to deal with Aksai as soon as he showed himself.

The black flying sword flashed once again.

SHING!

Another group of Demon Vines was sliced apart.

Varesh stood amid the destruction, his expression calm and cold. One could clearly see that he hadn’t even invested a quarter of his maximum firepower into his recent attacks. He had even retracted most of his Sword Intent so that the Array Core of the formation wouldn’t be severely affected by his attacks.

He still didn’t know that his three companions had already died and that he was the only one remaining. He had no idea that the formation master had been conserving his strength specifically for him.

And he certainly had no idea that a native cultivator could forcefully wield an imperial Lord’s Natal Weapon.

Of course, even if he knew, he wouldn’t have cared anyway.

At this point, he had started to feel bored.

Not the ordinary kind of boredom that came from waiting.

It was the boredom of repeating the same motions over and over again.

Swing.

Cut.

Destroy.

Stop.

Wait.

Then repeat.

His black-as-ink Natal Sword flashed through the fog, cutting apart another cluster of Demon Vines. The severed vines fell to the ground before writhing and attempting to regenerate.

Varesh barely paid attention.

He already knew how this would proceed.

The person controlling the Devil’s Den had been carefully manipulating the formation, testing him while preserving the island’s resources. It was clear he wanted to exhaust Varesh before facing him.

Too bad, he was a true sword cultivator and his Sword Essence was the one of the most efficient forms of attacking method known to all the cultivators from Dadangar World. Not to mention, Varesh was too proud to pretend to exhaust himself.

Varesh had deliberately restrained his own attacks for the same reason. He too wanted to exhaust Aksai through the use of formation. But it seemed that he had underestimated Aksai and his formation.

It didn’t seem like Aksai would run out of gas anytime soon as the optimization and Spirit essence consumption efficiency displayed by the formation was top-notch as well.

Even though Varesh didn’t know a whole lot of array formations, he was still surprised. He even started doubting if it was a quasi Forth Order formation.

As such, without Varesh’s direct desire, a stalemate was created. Both sides were waiting for the other to make a move. And Varesh was beginning to grow tired of waiting.

’How long is this going to continue?’

He glanced around the fog-covered isolation layer.

The answer was impossible to determine.

The formation master might confront him in a few minutes.

Or a few hours.

Perhaps even longer.

Varesh narrowed his eyes.

’If I continue going through the motions like this, who knows how long that coward will take to gather enough courage to show himself?’
