Aksai stood silently in the middle of the cleared battlefield.

The fog around him continued to thin, revealing the devastation left behind by Varesh’s previous attack.

For a moment, neither side moved.

Then Aksai took a deep breath.

Hummm...

Golden light suddenly erupted from his body.

A thick layer of Aurous Qi surged through his meridians before coating his entire body in a brilliant golden aura. His muscles tightened beneath his clothes, and his physical strength rose sharply.

The golden aura didn’t merely surround him.

It seeped into his flesh, bones, and blood.

His Body Cultivation Path was fully activated.

At the same time, Aksai’s expression became solemn.

His 3rd Aether Realm cultivation stirred.

Boom!

An invisible pressure spread outward from his body.

The air itself seemed to become heavy.

The mental fluctuations within the surrounding area slowed.

A vague phantom gradually appeared behind Aksai.

It was an enormous tortoise.

Verdant Elder.

The Aether Beast’s ethereal body was enormous, its vague form towering behind Aksai like an ancient mountain. Its eyes remained closed, but its presence alone caused the surrounding mental energy to tremble.

The Aether Suppression Domain expanded.

Verdant Elder silently took control of the domain, managing the enormous amount of mental pressure so that Aksai didn’t need to consciously control every aspect of it. This was the advantage of having an Aether Beast.

Aksai wasn’t finished. In the next moment, his Spirit Essence surged.

His mid-peak-stage Spirit Essence cultivation erupted without reservation.

The refined energy circulated through his body before strengthening both his physical power and his Aether Suppression Domain.

His golden aura became denser.

The invisible mental pressure became heavier.

The phantom of Verdant Elder became clearer. It was as if his Spirit cultivation path was acting as a bridge between his body and mind cultivation paths.

Then—

Aksai activated another ability.

The Druid’s Poison Heart.

Hummm!

A strange greenish-black aura emerged from within his body.

The poison wasn’t released recklessly but flowed toward his sword. The black-and-crimson Natal Sword trembled as the poison coated its surface.

This was not an ordinary poison. It was the most potent form of poison Aksai’s body could currently secrete as a Poison Druid. It had various properties.

The poison clung to the sword like a living substance. Even the surrounding air began to corrode.

Aksai slowly raised the sword. Every aspect of his individual power converged around him.

Then he looked toward Varesh, his expression solemn.

He didn’t say anything.

He didn’t need to.

Varesh’s eyes narrowed.

The late-stage Lord-level cultivator seemed to understand something. The questions he had been about to ask disappeared from his mind.

He understood what Aksai wanted.

A genuine duel.

Varesh stared at the strange sword in Aksai’s hand.

Then he smiled.

How could a true sword cultivator run away from such a challenge?

"Fine. I’ll just find out everything myself after I kill you."

Varesh stopped asking questions and raised his black Natal Sword. His breathing slowed and his Sword Mind became calm.

His Sword Heart remained steady as he took a step forward.

Aksai moved at almost the exact same moment.

BOOM!

Both figures disappeared.

The next instant—

CLANG!

They collided in the middle of the battlefield.

A terrifying shockwave erupted.

The surrounding fog was blown away.

The ground cracked as the two swords collided with tremendous force.

Aksai’s pupils contracted.

A tiny crack appeared on the borrowed sword.

Crack.

His expression changed slightly.

He looked at his sword.

Then at Varesh.

Varesh had already stepped backward.

A mocking smile appeared on his face.

The black Natal Sword in his hand slowly floated upward.

Then it moved.

SHING!

Aksai’s expression became serious.

The sword flew toward him.

He immediately raised his own weapon to block.

CLANG!

The two swords collided again.

Aksai was forced backward several steps.

Varesh watched him calmly, as if he could already predict what was bound to happen to the formation master in front of him.

***

There were two main styles among true sword cultivators.

The first was the Sword Control Path.

Sword Control Path cultivators treated their Natal Swords as separate entities. They preferred to keep their swords outside their bodies and control them through Sword Control, Spirit Sense, and Sword Sense.

Such cultivators excelled at mid-range and long-range combat.

Their swords could attack from any direction.

They could fight while remaining far away from danger.

They could even control their swords as though they possessed independent life.

The second was the Swordsmanship Path.

Swordsmanship Path cultivators treated their Natal Swords as extensions of their bodies.

They held their swords directly.

Every movement of their body became part of their sword technique.

Their Sword Mind, Sword Body, Sword Heart, and Sword Intent were synchronized with every movement.

They were terrifying in close combat.

When Varesh saw Aksai holding Kalina’s Natal Sword in his hand, he naturally assumed that Aksai was a Swordsmanship Path cultivator. He thought this way because Aksai could wield Kalina’s Sword Intent, which wasn’t something a non-sword-cultivator could ever do.

But one exchange had been enough.

Varesh immediately understood.

This man had never truly cultivated the sword.

Not even once.

He wasn’t merely inexperienced.

He had practically no foundation in Sword Dao.

The Sword Intent flowing through his body was borrowed.

The Natal Sword in his hand belonged to someone else.

Even his understanding of Sword Intent seemed to be nonexistent.

Aksai was experiencing true Sword Intent for the first time.

Interesting.

Varesh’s mocking smile deepened.

’Interesting. This guy is using some very peculiar powers. I don’t care about the other inheritances but I hope I can get my hands on his technique that lets him wield another’s Sword Intent. I just need to kill him and check his storage ring.’

He finally understood why Aksai had been able to wield Kalina’s Natal Sword.

It wasn’t because Aksai was a hidden sword cultivator. He was simply using some unknown method to imitate the connection between Kalina and her Natal Sword.

A fake sword cultivator through and through.

Varesh’s interest immediately disappeared.
