SHING! SHING! SHING! SHING!
The Sword Cries resonated continuously, and the entire isolation layer became a world of swords.
Varesh’s expression remained calm as he carefully controlled the strength of every Sword Blade.
As mentioned previously, he wasn’t trying to destroy the whole formation. His actual target was the Array Eye responsible for maintaining this isolation layer.
He wanted to push it to its limit and make the formation master feel the pressure.
More importantly, he wanted the Array Eye assigned to the isolation layer that trapped him to temporarily lose its ability to function normally. That would inevitably affect the Array Core.
However, Varesh had no intention of destroying the Array Eye completely.
If he did, the damage would be transmitted to the Array Core. And once the Array Core was damaged, the entire formation could suffer irreversible consequences.
That wasn’t something Varesh wanted.
He wanted Emerald Cove Island’s Spirit Fields, vineyards, and abundant resources. He wanted its entire formation system, which seemed to have formed some sort of ecosystem. Destroying a single aspect of this ecosystem was bound to affect the others.
And this potential upheaval would be equivalent to destroying Varesh’s own future wealth.
Thus, his attack remained controlled.
Of course, Varesh was overthinking it to some extent, given that he couldn’t understand anything about the Devil’s Den and still treated it as an ordinary late-stage 3rd Order island-protection formation.
He didn’t know that there was a late-stage 3rd Order Demon Tree serving as the island formation’s Array Core, which wasn’t as vulnerable to his attacks as he had thought. Even if the Array Eye of the island formation were to get damaged, the Demon Tree had the ability to isolate its impact, keeping the other areas of the island it protected safe from harm.
Of course, if too many Array Eyes were to get damaged, the Array Nodes would fail to connect, and the island formation would still suffer. However, this would require not only Varesh but also the other imperial cultivators to launch fierce attacks on the island formation.
Being dead, Varesh’s other three companions were naturally unable to help him in this matter.
But even so, the devastation caused by a single true sword cultivator was extraordinary.
The blade storm swept across the entire isolation layer. For several breaths, the Devil’s Den seemed to have transformed into a miniature Sword World.
Swoosh! Zoom! Kachink!
The final wave of Sword Blades swept outward.
Varesh suddenly stopped channeling his Sword Essence into the attack, and the blade storm dissipated. The Sword Shadows disappeared one after another.
Silence returned.
The battlefield had been completely cleared. There was nothing left standing around Varesh.
The Demon Vines had been cut into countless pieces, but strangely enough, they didn’t regenerate. The Sword Intent remaining inside their wounds continued to erode their vitality, preventing them from regenerating.
Varesh looked toward the center of the isolation layer, his eyes narrowing.
The Array Eye had stopped functioning normally, and its fluctuations had become unstable. The isolation layer itself had weakened considerably. However, it hadn’t collapsed.
Varesh had stopped his attack at precisely the right moment. The final wave of Sword Blades had dissipated just before it could shatter the isolation layer.
If he had allowed the attack to continue for even a few more breaths, the consequences would have been completely different.
The damage wouldn’t have been limited to the Array Eye. Even with his incorrect estimation of the island formation’s capabilities, the damage would have reached the formation’s deeper structure. The Array Core would have been affected.
And once that happened, the entire Emerald Cove Island could suffer.
The Spirit Fields could become unstable.
The vineyards could lose their spiritual nourishment.
The various resource-producing areas regulated by the formation could be damaged.
The island’s abundant wealth could suffer serious losses.
After all, even if the Devil’s Den formation was different from all the array formation legacies known in the Dadangar World, it still followed the general universal principles of formations.
With Varesh’s precision strikes, the degree of damage would have been different, but it would still have ruined some, if not all, of the Spirit Fields located on Emerald Cove Island.
Varesh slowly lowered his sword. A faint smile appeared on his face.
This attack... was simply a warning.
He had just demonstrated that he could cause great harm to the island formation and ruin its accumulated wealth if he wanted to. He had merely chosen not to.
Now, will you come out?
Varesh waited.
One breath.
Two breaths.
Three breaths.
Nothing happened.
His smile slowly disappeared.
"Hmph."
He looked toward the fog.
"So you still don’t want to come out?"
His fingers tightened around the black Natal Sword.
A trace of coldness appeared in his eyes.
Fine.
If this warning isn’t enough... then I’ll stop caring about the damage. Let this island be collateral damage.
The moment that thought appeared in his mind—
The fog suddenly moved, and someone could be seen walking through it.
Varesh’s eyes narrowed.
A figure slowly emerged from the distant fog.
His clothes were slightly disheveled, but his expression remained calm.
The man held a black-and-crimson sword in his hand.
Varesh’s pupils contracted. His Sword Sense immediately locked onto the weapon.
A familiar yet strange Sword Intent flowed from it and his expression changed for the first time.
"Hmm? Kalina’s Natal Sword? How did you come to possess it? And how did you manage to wield it and tap into its Sword Intent?"
Varesh immediately recognized Kalina’s Natal Weapon. It seemed that he had some history with her. Of course, Aksai didn’t care how or why Varesh could recognize the sword he had "eternally borrowed" from his last opponent.
Ignoring Varesh’s immediate questions and puzzled expression, Aksai Everwood stepped into the cleared battlefield.
He looked around at the devastation caused by Varesh’s blade storm before shifting his gaze toward the late-stage Lord-level sword cultivator.
Even if a part of him felt unqualified to face someone like Varesh, he still wanted to know the depth of the chasm that separated them.
