Maria.
I continued kissing him without the slightest restraint, as nothing else mattered, not the corridor outside or not the people moving around the pack.
Not even the possibility that someone might walk past us at any moment.
At that moment, all my attention was on Noah, his warmth and his embrace and the way he kissed me back with just as much longing.
The world around us gradually faded into the background and time itself seemed to lose all meaning. Neither of us realized how completely absorbed we had become.
It wasn’t until the faint sound of approaching footsteps reached us that reality came crashing back.
The footsteps were getting closer.
Noah was the first to react, as he immediately broke the kiss. His eyes widened slightly as he glanced toward the corridor.
Without wasting another second, he reached for my hands and held them firmly.
"Someone is coming." He said, his voice low and urgent.
For the first time since we had begun kissing, I saw genuine panic flash across his face.
Before I could even respond, he gently pulled me along, as his grip never left my hand.
He hurried toward the nearest room, opened the door just enough for us to slip inside, and quietly shut it behind us.
The click of the door closing echoed softly through the silent room.
Only then did I finally let out the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.
A long sigh escaped my lips, as relief slowly washed over me. I couldn’t help shaking my head.
The situation felt strangely amusing.
We had just run away like two criminals caught committing a terrible crime.
If anyone had seen us...the misunderstanding would have been impossible to explain.
A quiet smile almost formed on my lips.
Noah turned to face me, his expression had already softened. There was nothing playful about the way he looked at me now, as there was only concern.
"Look here, Maria." Noah said, as his voice was gentle. "We can’t put you in danger."
Those simple words made something inside my chest melt immediately. Even now, his first concern wasn’t himself.
It was me.
He wasn’t worried about getting caught nor was he worried about what would happen if I was discovered.
My heart warmed instantly, and a smile slowly spread across my face.
"Thank you, Noah." I said, as gratitude filled every word.
I truly meant it.
Without thinking much, I leaned lightly against the closed door behind me.
The room remained silent, and outside, faint voices drifted through the wooden door.
I instinctively held my breath.
"Maria!" Vincent’s voice echoed through the corridor, loud and clear making It impossible to mistake "Where are you?" He added, sounding determined. "I know you’re somewhere around here."
The words sent immediate panic rushing through my body and my heartbeat quickened.
How?
How did he know I was here?
Had he really seen me?
Or...Had he somehow caught my scent?
Before my thoughts could spiral any further, Noah reacted immediately.
He gently pulled me away from the door until I was standing flush against him.
There wasn’t even the slightest distance separating us, his arms instinctively wrapped around me. Then, with surprising gentleness, he raised both hands and carefully covered my ears.
He leaned closer until his lips were only inches from my ear.
"It’s alright, Maria." He said, his whisper barely audible. "He isn’t going to find us." He added, his calm voice clearly meant to reassure me and to steady my racing heart.
But no matter how much I wanted to believe him...I couldn’t, especially not when it came to Vincent.
Vincent wasn’t someone who gave up easily. He was relentless. If he truly believed he had seen me..or if he had picked up even the faintest trace of my scent...he wouldn’t stop searching, not until he had checked every corridor, every corner and every single door.
And that terrifying thought made it almost impossible for me to relax.
"Listen to me, Noah," I whispered urgently, lowering my voice until it was barely audible. "The Lycan Prince is definitely going to search every single room here."
My eyes remained fixed on the closed door as I spoke.
Every passing second made my heartbeat grow louder inside my chest.
I knew Vincent far too well and there was no way he would simply overlook a room because it appeared empty.
"No way," Noah replied confidently, shaking his head without the slightest trace of concern. "He’s looking for you. He’ll probably just walk past this room and continue searching somewhere else."
His confidence almost made me groan.
Did he really think it would be that simple?
I slowly drew in a deep breath, trying to keep myself calm despite the urgency of the situation.
Then I reached out and lightly tapped the side of his head.
"Don’t be a dummy," I said playfully, though my voice remained low. "The Lycan Prince is a complete madman whenever he’s looking for something." I paused briefly before continuing, "Once he sets his mind on finding someone, he doesn’t leave a single place unchecked. Every room... every corner... every possible hiding place will be searched."
Noah blinked at me.
His brows slowly drew together as though he was finally beginning to consider my words.
For a few moments, he simply stared at me in silence and then, almost reluctantly, his shoulders fell.
The confidence that had filled his face moments ago slowly disappeared.
"What do we do now?" he asked quietly, genuine curiosity replacing his earlier certainty.
Before I could answer—
"Search every room!" Vincent’s commanding voice echoed loudly through the corridor outside.
The order reverberated through the hallway, making my heart skip a beat.
I instinctively stiffened.
Honestly...he was such a pest.
Hadn’t he already gone back to his room?
Why was he still searching for me?
Why couldn’t he simply give up?
No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t understand his persistence. More importantly...I absolutely couldn’t allow him to see Noah and me together.
That would only create problems neither of us needed.
An idea immediately formed in my mind.
"There is only one solution at the moment," I whispered hurriedly, glancing toward Noah while Vincent’s footsteps continued moving somewhere outside.
"What?" Noah asked, looking directly at me, as his expression was filled with curiosity.
Without wasting another second, I answered firmly.
"You have to hide under the bed."
The words had barely left my mouth when Noah’s face lost every bit of color. His eyes widened in disbelief.
For a brief moment, he looked completely speechless.
Even so, he knew there wasn’t enough time to argue.
Without another word, he quickly lowered himself to the floor, crawled beneath the bed, and disappeared underneath it.
At the same time, I hurried onto the mattress and lay down as naturally as I could, forcing myself to appear calm despite the panic racing through my body.
Only a few seconds later...the doorknob turned and then the door slowly opened.
