Maria.

The door suddenly barged open with enough force to make me flinch, and several guards stormed into the room in perfect formation. Their heavy boots echoed against the floor as they spread out, their sharp eyes scanning every corner of the chamber. A second later, Vincent stepped inside after them, his piercing gaze immediately sweeping across the room.

The sudden intrusion caught me completely off guard—or at least that was exactly how I made it appear.

My heart pounded wildly against my chest, but I immediately widened my eyes in feigned shock, staring at the unexpected visitors as though they had interrupted an innocent moment.

Thankfully, the mask still concealed my face.

Without it, I wasn’t sure I would have been able to keep my expression under control.

"And what is the meaning of this?" I demanded sharply, allowing irritation to seep into every word as I glared at them.

As though embarrassed by their intrusion, I dramatically grabbed the bedsheet and hastily pulled it higher until it covered me completely, clutching the fabric tightly against myself.

The guards instantly lowered their heads.

"Forgive our manners, Lycan Princess!" they all echoed in perfect unison, as their voices were filled with nothing but helplessness.

Their synchronized apology rang throughout the room.

But I couldn’t care much, as my eyes subconsciously shifted to Vincent.

And surprisely, Vincent didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he simply lifted one hand and casually waved it toward the door.

The gesture alone was enough.

Without questioning his order or lingering for another second, every guard turned around and quickly filed out of the room, leaving the door behind them.

Silence settled between us.

Only Vincent remained.

He slowly shifted his attention back to me before taking a measured step toward the bed.

"Maria..." he called quietly, his voice carrying an unsettling calmness. "Who were you with?"

I frowned at him immediately, letting frustration cloud my expression.

"What kind of a question is that, Vincent?" I shot back, my tone filled with annoyance. "Can’t you see I was trying to sleep away all this headache and the turn of events?" I added, sounding completely offended that he would even suggest otherwise.

A low chuckle escaped his lips.

The sound only made my irritation deepen.

"Don’t think I’ll be fooled, Maria!" he suddenly yelled, the amusement disappearing from his face as his eyes narrowed dangerously. "I can clearly perceive another man’s scent on you," he added with absolute certainty.

The moment those words left his mouth, panic struck me like lightning.

My heartbeat accelerated so violently that I feared he might actually hear it.

No...How could he have noticed?

I forced every ounce of fear back behind the mask, refusing to let it show.

"And what exactly are you talking about?" I asked, maintaining my composure as best as I could, staring directly into his eyes despite the storm raging inside me.

Without the slightest hesitation, Vincent suddenly stepped forward.

Before I could react, his hand shot toward the bed, and with one swift movement, he yanked the bedsheet away from my body.

The fabric slipped from my grasp so unexpectedly that I instinctively gasped.

My eyes widened in outrage.

"You—!" I yelled immediately, my voice echoing through the room as I stared at him in utter disbelief, acting as though he had just committed an unforgivable offense.

My breathing became uneven as I glared fiercely at him.

"What exactly do you take me for?" I demanded, my voice trembling with a mixture of anger and humiliation.

I continued glaring at him, making no effort to hide the disgust on my face.

The fury in his eyes instantly faded.

Almost immediately, the hard expression that had been etched across his face melted into one filled with guilt and concern.

"I’m sorry, Maria," Vincent said at once, his voice much softer than before.

His expression had changed completely.

The anger that had driven him only moments ago was gone, replaced by genuine remorse as he looked at me.

He slowly lifted his hands toward me, seemingly intending to comfort me.

The moment I noticed the movement, I recoiled.

"Get your hands off me!" I yelled, my voice sharp enough to stop him in his tracks as he reached closer.

His hands froze in midair.

For a brief moment, neither of us spoke.

"You are now mine, Maria. Our wedding is in a few days," he finally said, his tone firm and unwavering.

His gaze remained fixed on me.

"Isn’t it normal for me to be a little possessive... I don’t want any man near you," he continued, his voice carrying both determination and sincerity.

His words only irritated me further.

I slowly rolled my eyes away from him, unable to conceal my annoyance.

Every word that came out of his mouth made my frustration grow stronger.

What the hell was wrong with him?

Why bother trying to claim what can never be his?

"The wedding hasn’t happened yet, Vincent," I replied confidently, turning my eyes back toward him. "So I am not yours."

I made sure every word was spoken clearly.

The disgust in my voice was impossible to miss.

Vincent’s brows immediately drew together into a deep frown.

"It’s no big deal, Maria," he replied firmly, refusing to accept my argument. "What’s a few days?" he asked, as though the difference meant nothing.

I let out a tired breath.

The conversation had become exhausting.

"I want to be alone, Vincent," I said wearily, my voice losing the anger it once carried. "Please leave the room," I added, hoping he would simply listen.

Instead, he remained exactly where he was.

"What if I insist on staying?" he asked calmly.

The moment those words left his mouth, panic seized me, and my heart skipped a beat.

There was no way I could allow him to remain here.

Noah definitely could not stay hidden beneath the bed for much longer.

What do I do now?
