Noah.
That bastard’s name is Vincent.
The name echoed over and over inside my head, refusing to disappear no matter how hard I tried to push it aside.
For some strange reason, it refused to leave my mind.
It wasn’t just because of the man standing in this room.
There was something else.
Something about that name felt disturbingly familiar.
Why?
Why did it sound so familiar?
I frowned beneath the bed, my brows knitting together as I tried to sort through the countless memories buried inside my mind despite the uncomfortable position I was forced to remain in.
The space beneath the bed was far too cramped to think comfortably, yet my thoughts stubbornly circled around that single name.
I’m sure I’ve heard that name somewhere before.
I just couldn’t remember where.
The harder I searched my memory, the more elusive the answer became. It was like trying to grasp smoke with my bare hands.
Every time I felt as though I was about to remember, the memory slipped away before I could seize it.
It lingered just beyond my reach, hovering at the edge of my mind, teasing me with its familiarity while refusing to reveal itself.
But where had I heard it?
Where?
The question repeated itself endlessly inside my head.
I silently searched through every memory I could think of, hoping something would finally connect.
Nothing.
No matter how many times I replayed the name in my mind, nothing surfaced.
The more I forced myself to remember, the more frustrating it became.
I clenched my jaw in annoyance.
Eventually, I gave up.
There was no point dwelling on something I couldn’t recall.
Forcing myself to abandon the thought, I pushed the nagging feeling to the back of my mind.
That aside...Right now, I wanted nothing more than to crawl out from under this bed.
The cramped hiding spot had become unbearable.
Every muscle in my body ached from remaining in the same awkward position for so long.
The lack of space only added to my growing irritation.
With every passing second, my patience wore thinner and thinner.
More importantly...I wanted to punch Vincent square in the face.
Just thinking about everything that had come out of his mouth moments ago was enough to make my blood boil.
The arrogance in his voice, and the confidence with which he spoke.
Every single word replayed inside my head, fueling the anger burning deep within me.
The longer I stayed hidden beneath this bed, the harder it became to resist the urge to step out and wipe that smug expression off his face.
How dare he speak as though Maria already belonged to him?
The audacity, and the arrogance, infuriated me beyond words.
She belongs to me.
That single thought echoed fiercely inside my mind.
I clenched my fists beneath the bed, struggling to contain the anger burning inside me.
Every muscle in my body tensed.
If I stepped out now, I wasn’t sure I would be able to stop myself from attacking him.
I was still silently fuming over everything he had said when his next words reached my ears.
"What if I insist on staying?" he asked so calmly, his voice steady and relaxed, almost effortless.
There wasn’t the slightest hint of hesitation or uncertainty in his tone, and somehow, that calmness irritated me even more than if he had been shouting.
My eyes immediately narrowed beneath the bed.
The anger building inside me intensified.
Every muscle in my body tensed as I silently listened to him.
What kind of stunt was he trying to pull?
His behavior made no sense.
No one would act this confidently unless they had a reason to. There was simply no way he could remain this calm unless he knew something.
The more I listened to every word that came out of his mouth, the stronger my suspicion became.
It wasn’t just a passing thought anymore.
I was almost completely certain—He knew.
He knew I was hiding somewhere inside this room.
Maybe he hadn’t found me yet...maybe he couldn’t pinpoint my exact location...but he definitely suspected I was here.
Otherwise, why would he keep pushing?
Why would he continue provoking Maria like this?
The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became.
He wasn’t asking those questions out of curiosity, he was testing her, eatching her reactions and trying to catch the slightest mistake.
He was clearly trying to make me suffer a little.
That had to be it.
There was no other explanation that made sense.
He wanted me to remain trapped beneath this bed, unable to move, unable to fight back, while he deliberately tested Maria’s patience.
The thought alone made my blood boil.
I clenched my fists so tightly that my fingernails dug into my palms.
Every instinct screamed at me to crawl out from beneath the bed and put an end to this ridiculous game.
Yet I couldn’t move.
I had no choice but to remain where I was.
Just then, Maria’s voice suddenly broke the tense silence.
"No, you can’t stay, Vincent!" she said immediately, her answer coming without even a moment’s hesitation.
From the sudden bounce of the mattress above me, I could tell she had just stood up from the bed.
The movement caused the wooden frame above me to shift slightly.
"What do you mean, no?" Vincent asked furiously, as a brief silence followed before he spoke again. "Are you really sure there is no one here?"
Damn that crazy asshole.
The words instantly tightened every muscle in my body. From the way he asked that question, I could tell he knew I was here.
He wasn’t guessing anymore, he was probing and testing while waiting for someone to make a mistake.
Left with no other choice, I immediately suppressed my wolf scent as much as I possibly could.
"You are really crazy, Vincent," Maria said, her voice dripping with annoyance. "You apologize for something, and yet you do the same thing almost immediately," she added, sounding completely fed up with his behavior.
"What else do you want me to think, Maria?" Vincent asked, his voice growing firmer with every word. "You are chasing me out of the room, and you expect me not to think you aren’t trying to save the guy you came in here with!"
The accusation had barely left his mouth when a loud, sharp sound echoed throughout the room.
Smack!
Even from beneath the bed, I could tell exactly what had happened.
Maria had just slapped him.
The impact reverberated through the silent room, followed by a brief moment of complete stillness.
I couldn’t see either of them from where I was hiding, but I didn’t need to.
The sound alone painted the entire picture inside my mind.
"You are really crazy!" Maria yelled, her voice shaking with pure anger.
There wasn’t even the slightest attempt to hide her frustration anymore.
"And I can’t believe you are this dumb!" she added, sounding completely fed up with his unreasonable accusations.
Instead of becoming angry...Vincent chuckled, and the sound instantly irritated me.
It was as though her slap hadn’t affected him in the slightest.
"Tell me..." he said after a short pause. "Is it Noah?"
The moment my name left his mouth, every muscle in my body stiffened.
To hell with this guy!
So he already knew her heart belonged to me.
If that was the case...
Why was he still trying so hard to break us apart?
What exactly was he hoping to achieve?
The more I listened to him, the more unbearable he became.
And to make matters worse...I still couldn’t believe I was hiding beneath this bed like some common criminal.
The cramped space felt even smaller now.
Every passing second gnawed at my patience. Every word Vincent spoke pushed me closer to my limit.
This Vincent of a guy was clearly getting on my nerves.
"Look," Vincent said, his voice becoming noticeably colder. "You know we haven’t searched this room yet."
The words carried an unmistakable threat, as he didn’t need to say anything else for the meaning behind them was perfectly clear.
He was warning her.
He was reminding her that he still had every excuse to search the room if he wanted to.
I had heard enough—enough of the accusations, enough of his arrogance and enough of this ridiculous drama.
My fists tightened instinctively beneath the bed.
I was done hiding.
Just as I finally decided to crawl out from under the bed and put Vincent in his place once and for all, Maria’s voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts.
"You want to remain here, Vincent?" she asked calmly, as her voice had become surprisingly composed. "Then suit yourself!" she added without hesitation.
The next thing I heard was the sound of footsteps moving away.
She had walked out of the room.
"Maria, wait!" Vincent yelled immediately.
His hurried footsteps followed after hers as he rushed out in pursuit.
The room fell silent again.
Meanwhile, all I could do was remain beneath the bed, my fists clenched so tightly that my knuckles ached.
Frustration burned inside me.
I had to do something quickly.
I can’t take this!
