Anabel.

I really couldn’t understand why I couldn’t resist him. No matter how fiercely my mind rebelled against him, my body betrayed me the moment he drew near, melting under his touch as if I had no willpower of my own.

The more I thought about it, the more I hated this curse of a mate bond. It felt like a chain dragging me down, stripping away my control and forcing me to bow to a pull I wanted nothing to do with.

How do I face Noah from now on?

The thought alone tore a jagged hole straight through my chest. I had shamelessly given in to the touch of my mate’s wolf without a single complaint, surrendering to the overwhelming heat that flared between us.

Worst of all, subconsciously, I didn’t want his touch to leave my skin. I craved the very hands I should have pushed away.

The moment Vincent removed his hands from my waist and stepped away, a chilling void settled over me. I felt so hollow, so profoundly empty, that I didn’t even realize when I started crying, the silent tears slipping down my face before I could stop them.

From the look of things, I could tell there was another woman nestled deeply in the heart of my mate. He wasn’t entirely here with me; his mind was tethered to someone else even while his hands were on my body.

Why was fate so cruel to me?

Why was every step of my life marked by betrayal, longing, and bitter disappointment?

Why couldn’t I simply experience true, untainted love—the kind that didn’t demand my dignity as a price?

Was it really too much to ask for?

I was still completely lost in my suffocating thoughts, weeping silently into the quiet space of the room, when Vincent suddenly came back to the bed and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a tight hug. His warmth enveloped me once more, but it offered no comfort—only a stinging reminder of my own weakness.

I really wasn’t ready to compete for his love. I refused to enter a war for a man’s heart, begging for scraps of affection while he longed for another. I didn’t want him anyways, so the only true way out of this nightmare was to break this bond once and for all and free one another from this twisted fate.

And I really had no idea why he hated Noah so much, why such intense malice burned in his eyes whenever Noah’s name was spoken, but I really couldn’t be his mate while he harbored such deep hatred for the man I loved.

"I don’t want you!" I said firmly amidst my tears, my voice trembling with a fragile mix of grief and absolute resolve. "Please reject me!" I added, forcing the desperate plea past my lips, begging him to shatter the bond that bound us together.

Vincent stiffened completely at my words, his entire body locking up in an instant, and I really couldn’t tell what exactly was going on in his head.

The sudden shift in his demeanor was palpable, a dark, dangerous energy rippling through the heavy silence that fell between us.

"No way, Anabel!" he said immediately, his voice cutting sharply through the quiet air as he broke the hug, taking hold of me to stare directly into my eyes with an unyielding intensity. "If this is still about him, then I won’t." He added, his tone laced with a fierce, possessive refusal that left no room for negotiation.

I rolled my eyes instantly, a wave of bitter frustration washing over me.

Why was he so stubbornly clinging to this mate bond?

Why fight so hard for something that was so broken from the start?

Continuing this farce would only complicate things for the Lycan Princess, creating a tangled web of conflict that none of us could escape.

Driven by sheer desperation to end it all right here, I drew in a sharp breath.

"I, Anabel, reject—" I started, pushing the heavy words past my lips with every ounce of resolve I could muster.

But I didn’t get to finish. Vincent immediately lunged forward and claimed my lips in a fierce, possessive kiss, effectively smothering the rest of the rejection before it could fully take root in the universe.

The sudden, searing contact sent a shockwave straight through my nervous system, causing me to clench the fabric of the bedsheets tightly in my fists as my heart thud increased to a frantic, deafening pace.

Why can’t I resist him?

Why did my body betray my mind every single time he breached my defenses?

Vincent pulled my waist with an unyielding grip, dragging me impossibly closer until there was no space left between us, as he deepened the kiss with a ravenous intensity.

He immediately reached down and held my hands, prying my desperate fingers from the sheets, causing me to release my grip.

Without giving me a chance to protest, he guided my arms up and made me wrap my hands around his neck, forcing a closeness that shattered my dwindling composure.

His hands moved slowly and deliberately, tracing a path of fire from my waist up to my back, where he held me firmly against his chest. Each touch sent a violent shiver cascading down my spine, triggering an electric reaction I was utterly powerless to stop.

"I will never reject you, Anabel!" he said firmly, breathing the ragged vow against my lips between the kisses, his dark gaze locking onto mine for a fraction of a second before taking my mouth once more. "And you would do the same." He added, asserting his claim with absolute conviction.

The kiss instantly became hotter, more intense, a chaotic storm of raw desire that swept away my rational thoughts. Almost immediately, an unbearable, intoxicating heat began to slowly spread through every inch of my body, melting away my resistance piece by piece.

’I must be insane, or rather, completely possessed,’ I thought, drowning in the feeling as my mind lost the battle against the mate bond once again.
