Damien.

"Enough!" I yelled, my thunderous voice echoing violently off the high stone ceiling as I reached the absolute limit of my patience with all these endless, cyclical arguments revolving around the exact same futile point. "I am out of here, and the rest of you can sort out the rest of this madness yourselves!" I added sharply.

Without a single moment of hesitation, I turned sharply on my heel, stepped out of the suffocating tension of the study, and went straight down the grand corridor toward my private quarters.

What exactly was Daniel thinking with such a reckless proposal?

The more I thought about it, the more irritated I became. I couldn’t understand how he could make such a suggestion so casually, as though the consequences of his words meant absolutely nothing.

Perhaps there was some twisted logic running through his head, some explanation he believed could justify what he had proposed, but honestly, none of it mattered to me.

Because, at the end of the day, the plain and undeniable truth remained the same—Daniel simply could not be trusted.

The thought alone made my jaw tighten with frustration.

I was still fuming as I continued down the dimly lit hallway, my footsteps echoing heavily against the cold stone floor. Each step landed harder than the last, betraying the irritation simmering beneath the surface. I tried to push Daniel’s reckless proposal from my mind, but the more I tried, the more it seemed to linger there, irritating me like an unanswered question.

Then, without warning, I caught sight of someone farther down the hallway, and my steps instantly slowed, as my eyes narrowed almost instantly.

There he was—the very person I had, without even realizing it, grown to despise more than anyone else.

Noah.

My expression hardened at the sight of him.

And there, securely held within his arms, was Maria. He was holding her tightly against his chest, his arms wrapped protectively around her as though shielding her from everything around them. Her body trembled violently against him, her shoulders rising and falling with each broken breath as heavy, heart-wrenching sobs escaped her lips.

Beta Torin was also standing quietly beside them with a solemn, heavy expression, and I found myself immediately wondering what on earth could have possibly happened to put her in such a state.

I totally forgot all about my previous annoyance with Daniel and the endless argument in the study. Maria’s muffled sobs suddenly made me feel intensely uncomfortable, a sharp pang of possessive jealousy twisting deep in my chest. More than anything, I desperately wanted to be the one holding her firmly, offering her comfort as she cried, instead of watching her seek refuge in another man’s arms.

"What’s going on here?" I asked demandingly the second I came into full view, my presence cutting through the heavy silence of the corridor.

"Alpha!" Beta Torin greeted immediately, bowing his head in deference before offering a quiet explanation. "My lady has just gone through the official scroll!" he said softly, gesturing toward the parchment in her hands.

My eyes immediately widened in sudden realization as the full gravity of the situation clicked in my mind.

If my prior suspicions and deep digging had been correct all along, then Patricia was indeed Maria’s long-lost twin sister—and judging by the devastating tears soaking into Noah’s shirt, she was completely incapable of accepting such a horrific reality at the moment.

I knew in my gut that I should be far more concerned with consoling Maria right now, wrapping her in comfort and gently telling her that she didn’t have to accept this painful truth if she wasn’t ready. But the bitter reality was that I simply wasn’t focused on her pain.

Instead, a dark, desperate impatience burned within me. I wanted her to accept the truth so badly, to acknowledge her true lineage without delay, so I could finally be free to mark her as my mate once and for all.

I had been waiting for what felt like forever for this single, crucial piece of truth to come to light, and now that it was right in front of us, I couldn’t bear the thought of any more delays holding us back.

"We need to let Patricia know immediately and somehow make her come here without making any kind of complaint!" my wolf’s harsh voice echoed loudly inside my head, his instincts pushing for immediate, decisive action.

I clenched my fists tightly until my knuckles turned stark white, fighting a furious internal battle as I tried so hard to suppress those deeply selfish, demanding thoughts.

"Shut up!" I yelled back mentally at my wolf, shutting down his ruthless demands. "She needs us right now—she needs genuine support, not our selfish ambitions." I paused, my inner gaze locking onto the man currently holding her. "And above all else, we absolutely cannot allow Noah to take our place beside her again!"

My wolf immediately fell quiet, retreating into the shadows of my mind, and without missing a single beat, I went straight over to Maria.

I took a firm step directly in front of her, my jaw set as I threw a deadly glare straight at Noah.

My eyes delivered a clear, unyielding signal, silently telling him to back off and give the two of us some much-needed time alone.

But that complete asshole, who clearly got the obvious hint, stubbornly remained standing right where he was, rooted to the spot like a stone statue without moving an inch.

Ignoring his irritating defiance, I reached out and tried to pull Maria away from him and into my own arms, desperate to hold her close. But before my fingers could even brush her shoulders, Noah reacted with blinding speed, roughly slapping my hands away in a sharp, dismissive strike.

"Stay the hell away from her!" Noah declared, his voice dropping into a dangerous, protective growl as he stepped between us. "Can’t you see with your own eyes that she isn’t in the right state of mind to have any of your self-serving conversations right now?" he asked, glaring back at me with unbridled fury.

I raised my brows high in cold amusement, a dark smirk tugging at the corner of my lips despite the mounting tension in the air.

Noah was already pushing his luck and taking things far too far, clearly operating under the foolish, pathetic delusion that Maria would somehow end up becoming his in the end!

But he was dead wrong. Whatever tiny, fleeting chance he might have had in the past had officially long passed. Now, with the long-awaited truth finally laid bare and the ultimate chance for me to mark my rightful mate standing right before my eyes, I refused to let him take her away from me ever again.

"She didn’t say she doesn’t want to talk to me," I answered Noah smoothly, keeping my voice low and dangerous without breaking intense eye contact with him for a single fraction of a second. "So don’t try to cause an unnecessary scene here!" I added, my tone dripping with a harsh warning.

Noah ignored my demand and simply held Maria even more tightly against his body, shielding her like a stubborn fool.

For her part, Maria didn’t even bother to intervene or pay attention to the brewing storm between us, as she merely continued sobbing silently against his chest, completely consumed by her own shattering grief.

"Cause a scene?" Noah asked, letting out a harsh, dry laugh that lacked any real humor. "If anyone here is actually causing a scene, it is you!" he declared, taking a half-step forward as he held my glare with equal hatred. "Because the last time I bothered to check, you were nothing more than the unwanted third party in this relationship." he added, throwing the word like a barbed insult right at my face.

I chuckled lightly, tilting my head as my jaw clenched in suppressed fury. "Oh really? Should we actually start digging deeper and checking who exactly the true third party is here?" I asked, stepping right into his personal space.

Noah suddenly went completely silent, tightening his jaw and staring blankly past me as though he were deliberately choosing to ignore my very existence all of a sudden.

That smug, infuriating quiet pushed me completely over the edge.

"You have always been the pathetic third party in everything, Noah!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, the thunderous roar echoing wildly down the quiet stone hallway as I couldn’t contain my exploding anger for a second longer.

First, Daniel had thoroughly annoyed me back in the study with his foolish suicide plan, and now Noah was standing in my way, keeping me away from what was rightfully mine.

"Can the both of you just stop it already!" Maria suddenly yelled out, her broken, raw voice cutting sharply through the violent atmosphere like a blade.

She pulled her face away from Noah’s chest and turned her head toward us, as her tear-stained, bloodshot eyes locked directly onto mine, filled with such deep, unbearable agony that the sight instantly caused a sharp, suffocating ache to pierce straight through my heart.
