"’I forfeit the diving event,’ Seraphina Sterling stated calmly, but her words sent ripples through the small group."

Without a second thought, Silly Monkey blurted out, "I get it! You must be intimidated by Mermaid’s reputation, right? You figure you can’t beat her, so you’re just giving up now to save time. "’Only an idiot would say something like that,’ Stoney shot him a sideways glance."

"’You’re not looking down on me, are you? Thinking I’m not worthy of being your opponent?’ After racking her brain, this was the only reason Mermaid could come up with."

Seeing Mermaid’s insistent expression, Seraphina Sterling sighed. ’This woman has way too much pride.’ With no other choice, she explained quietly, "I’m on my period. It’s not a good idea for me to get in the water."
