Chapter 230: Chapter 230: It’s Not Over Yet (8)
But as he watched the wounded being carried out one by one, he couldn’t help but worry. ’What if she’s really in there? What if she’s seriously injured, waiting to be rescued? What then?’
"Sir, you should trust my abilities, and you should trust Seraphina Sterling’s. A fire like this can’t contain her! She’s your student—you should have faith in her!" Seeing Terrence Grant’s dark expression, even Hughes, who had followed him for years, couldn’t help but feel a chill. Nevertheless, he steeled himself and stepped forward to reason with him.
Terrence Grant’s deep eyes held a suppressed, frantic rage, like those of a wild beast on the verge of frenzy. Hughes didn’t dare to imagine what Terrence would do if Seraphina Sterling really died in this fire.
"Get out of my way!" he growled, his deep voice like a beast’s roar. At that moment, he would have run down anyone who tried to stop him. Terrence Grant was obstinate; he had to get inside and see for himself.
Ginny Gable was on site directing the rescue efforts. When she saw Terrence Grant about to charge in, she immediately blocked his path. "Sir, the fire is under control, but it’s still extremely dangerous inside. Please leave the area at once!"
Terrence Grant clenched his fists. He knew perfectly well that clashing with the police here would only delay their rescue efforts and hinder their efficiency. But he just couldn’t rest easy. He couldn’t even bear to imagine the sight of Seraphina Sterling being carried out by these people.
"Move!"
Only then did Ginny Gable recognize him. The chilling, murderous aura emanating from him made her shudder. "Mr. Grant, it’s dangerous here! You can give us a description of the person you’re looking for. I’ll have my team keep a special lookout and notify you the moment we have any news!"
"You know her."
A sense of foreboding immediately washed over Ginny Gable.
"Seraphina Sterling might be in there."
Ginny Gable’s heart sank. ’How could Seraphina be here? Isn’t she supposed to be in Tollan? The semester is about to start; what is she doing in Sanford instead of getting ready for school!’
Just then, Quentin Grant emerged from the building. "I’ve checked myself. Besides these two, there’s no one else inside."
The color finally returned to Terrence Grant’s face. They hadn’t found her, but that in itself was good news. ’At the very least, it means she’s still alive.’
"Captain Gable, we found two people dead from gunshot wounds. And two handguns. The rest is in your hands now," Quentin Grant said, handing the evidence over to Ginny Gable.
Quentin Grant got into Terrence Grant’s car, while Hughes stood guard outside.
"Try not to worry. She must have been the one who killed those two. She should be safe, for now." Quentin Grant produced a small, silver handgun. He remembered it clearly; it was Terrence Grant’s custom-made personal sidearm.
Terrence Grant’s expression didn’t lighten. "She even dropped her personal weapon. Her situation can’t be good. She must have been captured." He knew Seraphina’s marksmanship. ’For her to be forced to abandon her gun...’ He didn’t dare to imagine how dangerous the situation must have been.
Quentin Grant wanted to ask who this woman was, but seeing the murderous look on Terrence Grant’s face—as if he wanted to tear someone limb from limb—he didn’t dare. Besides, if she was truly one of Terrence Grant’s subordinates, she would be a classified operative, and he wouldn’t have the clearance to know about her anyway.
"Pull up all the surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Check it frame by frame. You can’t just walk away with a grown person—it isn’t that simple! They must have a vehicle." Terrence Grant forced himself to calm down. ’Right now, I’m the only one who can save Seraphina. If I panic, she’s truly doomed.’
"But this is a major traffic intersection; there must be countless cars passing through. Investigating every single one would be like finding a needle in a haystack," Quentin Grant said with a frown. That approach wouldn’t be very effective.
"Focus on smaller cars starting five minutes after the fire broke out." He knew Seraphina’s abilities well. ’It’s not easy to capture her. The fact that she killed two of them proves they fought fiercely. Surviving for five minutes would be easy for her.’
Quentin Grant held a high-ranking position, and with Ginny Gable graciously looking the other way, their combined efforts quickly produced all the surveillance footage from the building’s perimeter.
Everyone was skeptical. ’Could they really find any useful clues like this? Start a fire this big, with explosions, just to abduct one person? It seemed impossible.’
Only Terrence Grant knew the truth. ’They must be after the Jade Bracelet. These people were ruthless enough to kill Simon—there’s nothing they wouldn’t do.’
"Found it! This black van. It looks like two people are helping a third person into the vehicle. After they get in, it heads straight for the outskirts of the city. That road only leads out of town!"
"Get a location on it, now!" Ginny Gable looked at Terrence Grant with admiration. He had been right. They’d actually found a lead in the footage.
The police sprang into action, while Terrence Grant and Hughes returned to their car.
"Hughes, what are your thoughts?"
"Even if Captain Gable manages to track that vehicle, it doesn’t mean they’ll find Seraphina Sterling." Hughes’s expression had reverted to a professional poker face. "Our opponents are swift and methodical. They started such a massive fire just to abduct her. Why would they make a simple mistake like getting caught on camera? This has to be a deliberate misdirection—a decoy to lure us in and throw our investigation off track."
Terrence Grant’s face was grim. "Tell Mermaid to immediately leak the news that Seraphina Sterling has the Jade Bracelet. Have Monkey and Stoney on standby. And tell the doctor to prepare the emergency medical facilities."
"Quentin, take your men and conduct a grid search of every possible hiding place, using this building as the epicenter."
Even a battle-hardened man like Quentin Grant felt his lip twitch. "Sir, I’m just a field army commander. I think you’re overestimating my authority. I don’t have the clearance to conduct a search on this scale. One wrong move and this could blow up into a major incident!"
"You start. I’ll handle the rest." Terrence Grant immediately got out of the car and made a call.
