Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Refusing to Let Go (Part 1)
Quentin Grant’s eyes widened. He was a man who had seen it all, but he couldn’t help but be shocked by the scene before him. Terrence Grant actually wielded that much power! This wasn’t a decision just anyone could make. A search of every conceivable hiding place—that meant residences, shopping malls, office buildings, even government agencies. Not a single one would be overlooked! If they had gone through the proper channels, there was no telling how long it would have taken!
Although this was a matter of local administration, an operation of this magnitude could easily lead to conflicts or disputes if not coordinated properly. Even the top official in Sanford wouldn’t dare to issue such an order or make such a decision lightly!
Quentin Grant desperately wanted to see the phone in Terrence Grant’s hand. He wanted to see just what incredible dignitary he had called to have the authority to issue such an order!
But that was just a fleeting thought. He had neither the courage nor the ability to take Terrence Grant’s phone.
When Seraphina Sterling opened her eyes again, she found herself in a blue and white room with a Mediterranean feel.
A man was playing darts. Even with his eyes closed, he could hit the bullseye every time.
Seraphina Sterling blinked hard, trying to bring the blurry scene into focus. She didn’t know how high the dose from the tranquilizer gun was, but even now, her body felt weak and numb.
"Aren’t you supposed to be so formidable? How did my men catch you so easily?" the man sneered, still in his dart-throwing stance.
Seraphina’s mind raced. From his tone, she deduced they must have crossed paths before, and that she had left a formidable impression on him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be speaking to her this way. The problem was, she didn’t know anyone like him.
"Easy? Four men. Two dead, two critically injured. And in your eyes, that’s ’easy’? If that’s the case, your people aren’t very capable, are they? Losing half your team in a single operation, leaving you with virtually no operational capacity—if that’s easy, what do you call difficult? A total wipeout?"
Seraphina’s soft voice sounded weak, yet even in such a perilous situation, she remained composed, unhurried, and completely calm. It was as if she were a guest, not a kidnap victim.
A dart from the man’s hand grazed past Seraphina’s ear and embedded itself in the sofa. "Wipe that arrogant look off your face! You’re my prisoner now! I could kill you as easily as crushing an ant!"
Seraphina remained perfectly still. Even as she watched the dart fly toward her, she didn’t so much as blink. "I believe you."
She gave a faint smile. "But your men didn’t kill me, did they? And since they didn’t, it means I’m more useful to you alive than dead. You didn’t kill me back at the venue when things were so dangerous, so you’re certainly not going to kill me now that I’m on your home turf. Am I wrong?"
The smile on her lips grew brighter, her faint dimples looking all the more adorable—and all the more infuriating.
The man lunged forward, grabbing her chin brutally. His tone grew sinister. "You’re smart. But smart people tend to die young."
Seraphina kept smiling, her bright eyes flashing with defiance. "There are always exceptions, aren’t there?"
"Stop stalling. This place is extremely secure and secret. I guarantee you, no one will ever find you here. So where is the Jade Bracelet? If you don’t want to suffer, you’d better start talking. I’ve got all the time in the world to wait you out."
